    I just bought this for some upcoming winter wild camps. It's been reduced on Terra Nova's website to £630. Much better price. Looking forward to using it. Great vid. Cheers

    Great review of a fantastic tent. I can’t believe I cancelled my order of the Cross 1 a few years ago because I didn’t want to pay the £250 it was on offer for at the time. Can’t believe how much they have gone up

    It's a fantastic tent but well over priced. Been using it for 5 years or so, the flanks catch moderate wind big time could do with extra guys on them. Like you mentioned tho it's a great 2 person tent. I picked it up for £320 new

    Fantastic tent this. I've owned both the 1 and 2 but it's absolutely comical that terra nova have put a £900 RRP on this now. There are way better tents in every way than this available for hundreds of pounds less.
    Thanks for the review though, really enjoy these videos 😊

    Thanks for the review. The poles need to be connected at the top for a better structure - I imagine it twists when its windy, putting extra stress on the outer... £900 plus £75 for footprint! What????

    • @BackpackingUK
      @BackpackingUK  Год назад +1

      The bands stop it from twisting and they also make sure you can close the doors properly. There's no getting away from it, it's an expensive tent!

    A serial owner of Trisar, Quasar and Hyperspace I have no issue with quality but, I do not like the fact the outer door does not have a fixing to stop it flapping, it does not easily allow cooking whilst in the rain and the inner door stowage to the side is a faff. Plus it looks cold if there is a lot of wind for a 4 season tent with no option to close off the mesh

    Another first class objective review Andy. I was waiting forever for this tent to come into stock but sadly it never arrived. I’m hoping the new pegging point will reduce the sagging and flapping the large panel was prone to seeing. In truth I can’t see the new vent on the fly to know if it is any use or just a marketing pitch. Perhaps you could get TN to better display this. However the weight increase and shear cost is making me have second thoughts. I wanted a 2 person tent as a single person to give me some space especially during bad weather on long trips but weight is an issue, that’s why I never jumped at an Allak at 3.3kg. Perhaps the Pioneer 2 is a better compromise.

      @@BackpackingUK Thanks Andy, I’ve decided the Pioneer is the one to go for basically because the others are heavier and pack larger. Your review swung the decision even though I was a little unsure when you said the tent deforms in wind, especially problematic combined with lashing rain. Size wise it’s ample for one even if the vestibule is a little tight. Thanks again… Ian

    I too have just bought this for £630.
    I did my research, looked at scores of tents, and settled on this one.
    I have to say I am delighted with my choice.
    Yes, it's a lot of money, but it will do everything I need it to, and with a bit of love/luck, it will last me years.
    It is soooo simple to pitch and pack away, luxuriously spacious for one, and instils confidence no matter where I camp or what the weather's doing.
    If you can love a tent, I love the Southern Cross 2.

Although I really like Terra Nova tents, one design flaw that really bugs me, why have a white inner??? Put it this why, you wouldn't buy white underpants for the same reason! :} Why not take a leaf out of Vangos book with that lovely orange, not only will that colour resist stains more but in the morning sun, its so much easier on the eyes. It might be just me but I just don't trust tent pole structures that use "hub" connections, especially on a tent claiming to be suitable for 4 seasons. Strong wind and/or snow loading will cause issues with the tent pole ends at the hub connection point. On that I wouldn't buy this tent. Also Terra Nova needs to stop testing what the market will bear with it's pricing. It has clearly got its pricing wrong with this tent (and other models), something I think they may have recognised with their recent price reductions. Shame on Terra Nova though for trying it on with potential customers in the first place. They sell a quality product but the tents are certainly not in the same league as Hilleberg tents so they shouldn't try price them as if they were.
