Bears, seals, raccoons, wolves and dogs all share a common ancestor, they all have the same nose and similar mouth structure. They basically are sea dogs.
@@billyshakespeare488 all animals can have a bond with humans. Sharks also act like protective bodyguards for their human friends in the ocean. I have pets from horses, possums, cats, dogs, cow, mice& rats. I’ve also had an owl, crow, & even an alligator that would swim with me. They were all wild and all of them pets or wild has treated me as an equal. It’s all animals! It doesn’t matter if they share a common ancestor with dogs or not. Smdh

I live in a city on the west coast of Canada. When I'm by the water, I often see seals just watching humans, popping up and looking at us, then diving under, then popping up again still facing us. They seem very playful, like they're playing peekaboo.
As I understand it they're incredibly curious. Kinda like dolphins in a way, super curious and playful. I like the idea of seals people watching

Being raised on the edge of the Pacific, it is hard to explain what it feels like to my wife when I am under the water. She was raised in the City and never learned to swim. When I was seeing this I got a strong longing for one of things I love most in life, just being under the ocean.

I'm deathly afraid of the ocean! Took me years of research and planning to get on a cruise ship. We only live once and I didnt want to extend that fear to my children so we did a snorkeling excursion and it was absolutely amazing! Im still afraid of the ocean but I have a totally different respect for it after that! I can see how pple could long to be in/under it!

Ben has invested probably thousands of hours with these grey seals. Trust isn't given; it's earned. Patience, repetition, familiarity. He's got a wonderful relationship with his underwater companions. In some ways, the magic of one mammal touching another mammal holds a deeper meaning than just touching. Watching the seal closing its eyes while being caressed transcends the bond between one mammal and another............just like people.
My Octopus Teacher had such a similar feel for me. Seeing the kinds of healing that can be found in the oceans is absolutely magical.

Well, joke aside, I think they are trying to help him like if he got caught in a fishnet or something.
As a diver, even if they did destroy his regulator, a yellow one (called an Octopus, you can spot it via the yellow hose) is always carried as a backup, or a backup for a fellow diver. Not to mention he's not even breaking 40 feet, I think, so he can ascend safely if need be.

The most amazing thing for me is that so many animals not only do show affection to man when they sense his presence in their enviroinment to be non-threatening, but that they intuitively understand how affection is expressed in human terms. In tis video, the diver extends his hand and the seals take his hand in their flippers, which appear to then squeeze that hand very much as humans do when returning love. Similarly, they seem to want to touch his face with theirs and find his diving equipment to be an impediment. My point is that in many cases, the same animals do not neccessarily repeat these same sorts of gestures when they interact with each other.
You know they thinks he’s one of them. With his bald head, and big dark round eyes. They’re all like “huh, you look a bit odd but, worry not, we accept you, fellow waterpup!“

They act just like the dogs in the neighborhood where I live. The dogs walk around the streets and play with each other. When I walk down the street to go to the shops, they'll come up to me to get petted, sometimes they'll jump on my back, bite at my pant legs, or "bite" my arms. They're just playing with me the same way they play with each other. Those seals are acting just like that, they even have those big dark eyes like the dogs do.

First time I encountered a seal close up, it was absolutely obvious that they're dogs with flippers. Same eyes, same bark, same affinity for humans etc.

There are a lot of seals and sea lions in the coastal waters of CA as well. In my experience, many of them are naturally very playful/curious. Very different than nearly every other sea creature which will either just ignore me or try and get away. Definitely the coolest things to interact with on a dive, IMO.

but in the whole animal world it is the same, if you are neither a predator nor a hostile, the animals are curious about us and some even want to play.
You in the tropical seas were lucky to have a very special fish, called a balloon fish, like Diodon Hystrix, this type of fish is very curious about divers naturally, tamable and then he follows you everywhere when he sees you underwater, because on top of that he's smart enough to remember you.
Seals and sea lions are naturally playful, so if they see you as no danger to them (and they usually do with most people), they will come up to you, check you out, and play as well. They are like the Dogs of the sea.

Well the Dutch and the German language are close relatives and Hebrew is a language that has been present over multiple European countries and therefore was in a constant exchange with these languages so it's quite possible that these languages picked that word up from each other. 🤔

Don't be jealous, just cultivate an appreciation for what you have in life and also if you want to swim with seals then make your goal to swim with seals. If you want other things more, then pursue them instead. Try not to be jealous though.

I rember swimming in the ocean then feeling a brush on my leg and hearing an exclamation close by "look there's a seal". I felt very humbled even as a child.
