- Not all AR15 rifles are created equally and the Mitchell Defense SOIDC DOC (Special Operations Independent Duty Corpsman) rifle is that exception. Throughout our review we break down why we believe this and what makes this rifle exceptional.
The heart of any AR pattern rifle is the upper and this rifle is made of a bullet machined upper and lower with an ambi bolt release on the lower. Most importantly it features a 16” 1-7 Twist 223 Wylde Proof Research Carbon Fiber barrel with a mid length gas system. Sub-Moa accuracy at 100 yards is easy with this rifle and even with standard range or ball ammo like XM193 5.56 stuff. Throughout testing it shot sub Moa groups with every ammo we shot through it. The bolt carrier group is a M16 profile with a nitride finish with a Radian Raptor charging handle. We did use Hornady Match, AAC 77 Matchking, Sig Match and Frontier BTHP Match ammo for testing!
The lower features ambi controls from Radian for the safety, ambi bolt release and a flared Magwell. The trigger is a Geissele two stage for precision. The buffer system features drain holes and an H1 flat wire buffer spring for smooth no twang action. Our model is then finished off with Magpul furniture.
Through testing the rifle was 100 percent reliable and shot very flat without the help of an obnoxious muzzle brake or compensator. It’s gassed and weighted perfectly. If someone is looking for a precision AR platform for long range, SPR or DMR work, this is for you. Made by a veteran owned and operated company in Pennsylvania, this Mitchell Defense Rifle is here to shake things up in the premier AR market!

Will ALWAYS put irons on my rifle. Yes i will take off my scope if that situation arrises.Anything that can happen, will happen. I prepare accordingly. Worked for me in the military and still does.
There does come a point in time where so many redundancies becomes too much but the beauty is you have to set up your defensive rifle with what you feel at peace with.
@@HuntFishShootChannel maybe at some point. But this ain’t it, lol!
That is a sweet rifle for sure and I'm all about weight reduction in a rifle system and yeah it's a lot of money but if your truly happy with what you buy it's all worth it but of course if we tell anyone what we pay for something they think we're crazy OH well I'm happy how about you , we've get the goods right , I like a premium collection. Have you thought about doing a Safe Life review I just picked up a new multi threat vest and their belts look great also. Hey great job on this review, it definitely looks to be a great rifle.
Thanks Wayne! No we haven’t given it much thought to be honest but always open to suggestions! So it’s something we will have to look into!
First if it's not chf and chrome lined or have forged receivers I wouldn't own it 2nd a high end ar15 is one I have to end up building because no one sells what I build I have owned many factory firearms but I end up having to sink more money into them to get them closer to what I would want and mine even my 10.5 has shot sub moa the technology is really making gas gun chf chrome lined barrels as accurate as Stainless and wrapped barrels that for sure is a very nice looking rig!!!!
Thanks for sharing your opinion and input!
No 3rd of all?
$2,800???!! It better come with the optic set up and light at that price 😂
That optic set up alone on there would cost you about 2500, keep dreaming. What most folks don’t realize is the proof research barrel alone is 1k.
1:7 223 Wylde?
Yesssir
Honestly, the only thing special is the proof barrel. There are better overall rifles, ie Noveske, Kobalt Kinetics, Blackout Defense. Not tossing crap on the Mitchell defense, but the others have more features, more innovation at similar price points, and also sub MOA.
I’m really glad you listened to me make similar points, especially about the barrel and even mention “better than NEARLY all the other ARs”.
@HuntFishShootChannel you said it was the only one worth the money. According to your logic, those would also be " worth the money." Instead of getting snarky at the commenters, not understanding your point, you can try to understand the commenter first.
Snarky? No need to catch snark. Your comment was very understandable, but it most certainly wasn’t read as though you didn’t listen to the review in its entirety. There are a lot of great ARs out there, but out of the ones I have used extensively, this is the one of the best made, attention to detail and most accurate. I listed the ones which I have used in the video and felt in my opinion this was nicer than most of not all. I have a Geissele Super Duty which is my duty AR, I like the Mitchell Defense more. It’s far more accurate, shoots flatter and from what I have found, is built just as well. But with that being said I’m not trading out my duty rifle in the truck anytime soon. Geissele, Noveske, Cobalt Kinetics, KAC and LaRue are all top notch though and I would highly recommend them to anyone.
@Actual-user I know about them. For instance, the technology in the Blackout Defense Quantum DT. Rail and barrel are unique in a number of ways, dual taper lock up. Barrel is cryogenically treated and designed to hold tighter accuracy even as the barrel heats up. The recoil system is also different in the rear of the gun, which allows for better recoil management, and they possibly have the best trigger on the market, also made in-house. Cobalt Kinetics has some of the features, though executed in a different way. In addition, both companies offer better lowers, with more abi features and function without sacrificing reliability.
@Actual-user Yes, I have a Knights, Blackout Defense, PWS, and have also built several ARs over $2,800 before accessories. I am speaking from experience with Proof Research barrels vs what I have shot (friend has 2 noveskes) I didn't want to seem like I'm bragging with the firearms I have, or have access to, but you asked.
The question is, are you willing to accept that I have a valid opinion or just want to question everything I say, because you disagree with my first hand experience?
