I'm a Hokkien Chinese from the Southern part of China which is Fuzhou person next to Guangzhou - both amazing places with great diversity, culture and a history that 's full of character - from all sides, East and West... its the explicit history of migrations and incursions without any intercultural communication. I think we' re trying to build bridges to connect today as we talk. Fujian's part of Fuzhou- it's the tea Belt region. It has classic Chinese sceneries of mountains, pavilions and bridges. Forward to "Take it slowly" which is my inadequate translation void of history and context. Let me explain. The word for word semantic translation is "Bun bun knia," meaning "'Walk slowly," as its an imperative. The beauty of China is you can basically travel the whole country for next to nothing on the high speed rail network. In North America you basically need to purchase expensive airline ticket to travel from one end of the country to the other. It doesn't make any sense that a plane ticket from New York to Los Angeles costs more than double than a ticket from New York to Paris !

Here's an idea - Shanghai, as the largest and most international city in China, is also the most important city for exhibitions. Almost every week, there are various exhibitions from all walks of life (such as pet supplies exhibitions, daily goods exhibitions, etc.). Most of these exhibitions are open to the public and are free, making them a great place for family gatherings on weekends.

An idea is to stay long in Shanghai where your kids can get the best education. Travel round Zhejiang - Hang Zhou, Suzhou, Wuxi etc... only 1-2 hrs by HS train. There re great offers of family retreats or resorts all n over China. Later, yr husband can apply to teach in diff. places all over China and the kids will have a bright future. It's people like your family that gives hope to peace and kindness and what's important in these short lives of ours. Do watch that new animated Chinese movie: 30000 Miles to Chang'an, about the poet Li Bai (or Li Po in some English translation in the past). He and other poets from the Tang Dynasty truly speak the spirit of the Chinese people the last 1500 years. I see some of his sentiments in your family.
