Have you ever noticed that the chords used in Creep by Radiohead are strikingly similar to the chords in The Air That I breathe by The Hollies? When Steve Groves of the Moon Loungers noticed this, he set about fusing the two songs together, with the above video being the final result.
Radiohead actually pay royalties to The Hollies for their use of this classic chord sequence, but if you did have any further doubts this music video should lay them to rest.

MoonLoungers Bristol damn, you guys are fucking awesome! 🥺
Stumbled on this, you guys are great♥️
Just stunning...moved me to tears ....keep doing what you're doing 💙
This is one of the best things I have ever listened to, awesome work
Nice. Great Music.
Stumbled here after watching Heretic.
Me too!
Me too!
Does the end credits sond familar too? That was also intentional....knocking on heavens door and fade into you
Yep!! Me too
Iterations.
Loved the air that I breathe 40 plus years ago as a kid and as soon as I heard creep I made the connection, so this is bliss. I could happily play it in loop all day
1985 to 2000 every day this song! sunshine and this music!
The single greatest mashup of all time.
He didn't even swear.
This is why the Hollies won a legal settlement with Radiohead. Radiohead admitted that Air That I Breathe was unintentionally the an inspiration for Creep. They settled for a portion of the royalties and were also awarded given writing credits on Creep for Hammond and Hazlewood. Anyone who grew up in the 60s - 70s knew Air That I Breathe well because it got major radio airplay in the early 70s.
That why so many people made the connection immediately when hearing Creep for the first time. You’d have to be a zombie not to catch the similarity. I always knew that the two could be seamlessly put together, but this is the first time I have heard anyone actually record a mashup. They did an excellent job bringing these two classic songs together. Great job guys!
Now I don’t have to do it. I had often thought about doing a medley of these two songs, which is why I was searching for such a thing when I came across this. If no one else had done it, I was going to do it. I’m glad you guys did this because I seriously doubt my version could have been nearly as good as this is.
Has to be said that Lana Del Ray’s Get Free sounds more like Creep than Creep sounds like Air That I Breathe. Really just lifted the entire melody without trying at all to do something else with it before passing it off as original.
I am really glad this mashup exists though, it satisfies something deep within me lol
@@SobrietyandSolace100% agree.
It's a chord progression. No one should have ownership over that
@@benburndred2226 I agree. There are many songs that use the same chord progressions. How a court decides when they are IP and when they’re just progressions that have been used for thousands of years is kind of ridiculous.
Shit I never realised I’m a zombie but I must be because I never recognise these two as being similar until now despite liking both and playing both thousands of times LOL
Two of my favorite songs combined into a piece of musical art.... Genius
Creep is a copy of the air that I breath
@Luis Bravo Who actually asked, I don’t recall.
Grew up on the air that i breathe... First time I heard Creep I could hear it
@@luisbravo9131 Different words and melody. So not quire the same.
Intro and chord progression startlingly alike. Melody and mood different but they mesh well when the tempo is matched. Well done
this version of both songs fills me with unbridled happiness and peace.
This is so good. The themes couldn't be more different, and that where the interest lies for me. One is supremely satisified in love and the other is lost, awkward and broken. So good.
You're could make an argument that Air that I breathe comes across as "creepy", well... at least I the modern female's mind.
When Creep first came out, I would always launch into the Hollies as I sang along... and then when I found this mashup cover of yours a few years ago, I was so content that someone had done it. It's so great.
This is brilliant! I’m glad someone did this, it needed to be done. The sharing of the percussion all with foot pedals is great too. Nice break from seeing looping pedals everywhere now.
I was sitting in a dinner and air that breath came on and it struck me like lightning that these two songs belong together. Wow. Great work! Better than I could have possibly imagined!
There’s a reason why The Hollies sued Radiohead and won.
uk guardian says only 4 pop songs have this chord progression
@@voidisyinyangvoidisyinyang885 Which other 2?
@@walkinharmonyhomestead2888 well the lady who got sued by radiohead is the third. Not sure who the fourth is. Maybe the original composer did their own version. the person who wrote it - was John Hammond I think.
@@voidisyinyangvoidisyinyang885 I just found a video where the guy found more, but even he said he had to “go to the bottom of the barrel” to find some of them. Some have the same chord progression, but the time spent on each chord is different, giving the song a much different sound (I’m sure this happens a lot).
TY
I didn't expect to be so pleasantly surprised when I clicked in. This is one of the most amazing covers I've heard. Creating something this beautiful earns you some recognition and respect. I could go on and on, but I think you know it ROCKS.
I felt the same way! I was expecting the 2 songs played together to prove how it was the same song, but this was really awesome :D
As a mobile DJ, I saw the similarities between these two songs many years ago, and have been playing a live, mind-blowing mash-up for unsuspecting music fans at my gigs.
Kudos to The Moon Loungers on an excellent job!
This is the perfect song for two generations to sing. Beautiful. Smart. Touching. Memorable.
That's so awesome , it's like Creep picked up the down beat of The Air That I Breathe ...
Beautiful Demonstration to the players ! ... bravo Moon Loungers
Those songs will always be part of my heart. Any time I hear them, my heart shrinks. Both singers make me feel every word they wrote like no others do, both with regard to "The air that I breathe" and to "Creep". Hats off for both of them
Have always thought it’s uncanny how much Creep resembles The Air That I Breathe. This cements it. Oddly beautiful together though. Well done.
Was so uncanny that The Hollies sued Radiohead successfully and are credited as artists behind Creep and receive royalties from it. The chord sequence is almost identical.
"Creep" is beautiful, sad song but "All I need is the air " is a genius masterpiece. Chord progression is similar.
Creep is a copy. They cleared this out in Court.
Ya think???
@@ballsontoast Different words and melody. So not quite the same.
@@bazahaza Same melody. Which is how Radiohead lost that suit
@@stardustorchard9316 same melody ? they are obviously different ; people mistake chord progression with melody
When I go out to listen to acoustic live music, this is what I want to hear. Excellent musicianship, perfect harmonies, great songs, and DIFFERENT! Nice mix of two great songs and musically excellently executed. Chills.
Brilliant, gentlemen! Absolutely brilliant! How has this been around for 9 years and I’m just now hearing it? I’m 63 yrs old and this blew me away!
I searched the comparison and came across this as was convinced of their similarity. This is beautiful thank you.
This video is about to get a lot more views now
There are a finite number of note and word combinations in the world. With every new song that emerges the finite universe of possible songs shrinks and the anxiety of influence expands. We're doomed to plagiarism but blessed by inspiration.
note and word combinations may be finite - but time combinations are infinite
- and so , by that , is music
I’ve often thought of that. It’s deep.
@@kevinolesik1500 not as infinite,
Imagination is infinite.
And tunings are infinite
Such a perfect melding of those two songs, Good On You , gentlemen for making the two ONE.
I stumbled on this while I was looking for something else, and I'm glad I clicked on it! What a great mash-up of these two classics with such similar chord progressions! I love it! Excellent . And great singing and playing also; thanks for doing this and posting it. What a gem.
Can’t believe I am just hearing this in 2022. Brilliant!
So funny…I just stumbled on this. But I had recently looked up to tabs for Creep…a week ago or so…then yesterday had looked up The Air That I Breathe. I must have subconsciously realized they were similar! This is a great mashup!
Thank you for producing these two songs. They're both amazing
Here, let me fill in that one part for you:
"Sheeeeeeeeeeeeee's running out ah-gehhhh^hennnn. Sheee's running out. She run, run, run, ruh-huhnnnnnnnn. RUNNNNNNNNNNNNnnnnnnnnnn........."
She ruuuuuuuuuuinnnhhhhh!
Frank Drebbin great job!
Yeah the problem is that that part of Creep uses very similar notes and vocal phrasing as the verses to The Air That I Breathe so it would have been kind of hard to make that work somehow. Plus i'm surprised they didn't throw in a nod to Carry that weight since in The Air That I Breathe from 2:30 on sounds really really really similar to it(like treading on thin ice similar)
Wow! What a unique blending of two of my favorite songs. Bravo to you Moon Loungers Acoustic !
Great version of the fusion of the two songs. Excellent performance. Thanks for sharing.
0:51 the clashing of “light” and “eye” was so beautiful I had to acknowledge it
I legit listen to this mashup all the time. Sooooo good.
The two sides of my brain in a relationship

I’m not so much interested in the Radiohead/Hollies issue, as it was resolved rather openly and amicably (Radiohead said they grabbed the opening melody after someone said the lyrics were similar, and the Hollies appreciated them not screwing around over it, and they settled).
But the medley of these two songs is such a great piece and I just wanted to say how much I appreciate hearing this and what you put into arranging and performing it.
My grandma was such a huge part of my life, and one of her obsessions was the Everly Brothers, and I listened to their cover of this song more times than I can count growing up. Grandma was also my biggest fan and most ardent supporter growing up in the 80s and 90s, even gave me a place to stay and never minded and defended my character through all my goth and punk years. And she would let me play music for her if I found something she might like, and told me to turn it up loud, like Radiohead, and Collective Soul, and Nirvana, and Tori Amos, back when others in my family treated me like a freak, and she would listen and find the enjoyment and the understanding of what the artist most have been experiencing, whether or not she personally related. But she related to more than I knew at the time.
The EB recordings didn’t quite catch the minor notes of the Hollies’ gorgeous opening chords, so it was years before I put together the similarities between the two songs. Hearing this tonight made me literally sob like baby, as Grandma passed barely over a year ago, and with the pandemic it’s been hard to process it, but this just hit so unexpectedly hard as the perfect medley of who my grandma was and who I am, and what she meant to me when I needed someone the most. I wish she could have heard this, she would have loved it. Thanks for making it.
For me, it’s not about proving who wrote what, but it’s the bridge between the two that means more to me than you’ll ever know, and more than any chord progression can articulate. It’s a beautiful piece and you served both recordings well.
Thank you for sharing ❤️ your grandma sounds like a lovely woman
Wonderful grandma, very sweet story.
How lovely..... you have a ❤ and a 👍 and a 🙂 from me, David in the UK

You guys are absolutely fabulous! I think I watched this 3 or 4 times! You guys are on point in timing and harmony! You mastered combining two of my favorite songs. Thank you! It's a beautiful flow.
Now this is absolutely a incredible cover of one of the most beautiful songs ever... wow .. this is a beautiful cover
Two*
I keep coming back to this, again and again.
What a fantastic mash-up, best I've ever heard!
This was immensely satisfying and a high quality performance
I have no clue how I got here but you guys are amazing. Levels are amazing, Amazing version of the song. Kudos.
This is nothing short of magical genius. You melded together the chords and sounds that I knew had similarities.
Soooo sharing this..it needs to make the rounds and be noticed !!!!
Super job shifting gears. Seamless enough my brain had a hard time keeping up.
This is absolutely fantastic. Thanks guys!
Magnificent!! Love this mash up and had never realized the connection until today and when I googled the underlying similarities and parallels, this came up
txs for steeling this part! i can cry! this damned singer, its great! damned! stunner! super!
I can't believe I've only just come across this!!! So beautiful, and so technically difficult... amazing performance x
Nice mix to two awesome songs.
Just wow this is such a awesome version
Hauntingly beautiful!!!!
Yes two great songs. Absolutely amazed, so much that I return to give it a listen
I still love this so much! Great job guys.
What a wonderful!
70's & 90"s beautiful songs, great job!
BOTH songs are amazing
3 minutes ago I was watching a movie and heard “all I need…” in the scene. I listened closer and thought “…is that creep?…” so i looked if anyone had made this comparison and found this. Very cool.
The Hollies sues them over Creep and get royalties from the song. So yea the connection was made long ago.
When the fist time i play the air that i breathe i saw similar chords, time and melody but i never though you guys will make this vey very nice cover!
CONGRATULATIONS
Mario Santiago Guevara Gil They're not doing a mash up, it's to prove how similar these two songs are, because Radiohead were sued by the hollies for plagiarism.

@@justfine8647 I don't think they are out to prove anything but to make a beautiful artístic statenent
This is just plain mind blowing skill and artistry.
I love both songs to be honest, clarkes voice is amazing and the Hollies harmonies were as good as it gets, Creep introduced a lot of people to Radiohead and is also very important. Please don’t forget the original was written and recorded by Albert Hammond
Great mash-up of my two fave songs. Awesome finding this. Done sharing. Thanks!
Thats UNREAL ! Beautifully Done Gents Cheers !!!!
Holy shite...talk about a merger.
Blend of all blends .
This really was top-notch loveliness to listen to.
This is a beautiful perfect combination. Just watched heretic and never realized the similarity
Good god what a brilliant mash up. Thanks lads.
Work of ART ..ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT
very talented bunch of lads great version of two songs
I've always loved both songs, now i realise I've always just loved the song!
Exit stage left as head explodes!
So beautiful.
I love this. Bad ass rendition
Boy do I love it when a song surprises me!! What a great work guys!
You really make gold out of any song you cover! Thank you for this beautiful moment...
Espectacular indeed! Thank you! 🙏✨👏👏👏
Wow. This is fantastic. You blended this up perfectly.
I keep coming back to you guys. As a group, you're great. Thank you for sharing your talent.
Came here looking to hear the differences between the two songs, and ended up hearing a beautiful cover!
It’s more than the bridge. The verses are the same chord progression; The only difference is that Yorke is singing a slightly different vocal melody over the same chord progression/instrumental. Look at the cover mash-up by the Moonloungers and it’ll be obvious.
The bridge is icing on the cake, though. Here, Yorke is singing the same vocal melody in the bridge as the Hollies’ verses. That all but seals the deal.
Both songs in their original forms evoke so many special memories. Combining them? Wow. That was cool guys. Great job.
Similarly, I've noticed a similarity between Loggins and Messina's Danny's Song and Jewel's You Were Meant for Me. You could easily mash "dreams last, for so long, even after we're gone" with "even though, we ain't got money, I'm so in love with you honey."
Good to see the Weasley twins venture into the realm of music along with Bill
Love both these songs but never noticed how similar they are. This mash up however is simply brilliant. I've been listening to a lot of their stuff since finding this and I like them a lot.
'Plagiarism' is the right term.
Plagiarism is when you try to pass someone else's work off as your own, and they clearly aren't doing that.
You're wrong.
They're not doing a mash up, it's to prove how similar these two songs are, because Radiohead got sued by the hollies for plagiarism
There's such a thing as UNINTENTIONAL plagiarism, where you're not consciously thinking about the song that you're lifting up from. Similarly, I've noticed a similarity between Loggins and Messina's Danny's Song and Jewel's You Were Meant for Me. You could easily mash "dreams last, for so long, even after we're gone" with "even though, we ain't got money, I'm so in love with you honey."
Thank you for making the similarities so simple to see. This mash up is like two good songs in one, making a third one.
If you need someone to help you see the similarities then the Hollies shouldn't get any credit for creep.
I really just see a little tiny part. Very tiny tinyyyy
That was SO excellent! You guys harmonize beautifully! You have to be brothers, right? Are you?
You did the two songs (with the same chords) so beautifully! I love it!
I still get the chills when I hear Creep. It reminds me of when I met my husband in NYC! He later told me it was him singing those words to me because he was from Harlem and I was from the northern suburbs of NYC and our lifestyles were so different, when I brought him into my life it was complete culture shock to him! (PS- He adjusted very well and started his own successful business in “my world”.)
Also, after reading some of these comments I feel I must set you straight. The original song, All I Need Is The Air That I Breath, was written by Robert Hammond, covered by The Hollies and granted to Radiohead when they asked and then later sued Lana Del Rey for using it without his permission (but nothing ever became of the suit.) 😊
No one believes me when I say they are the same song. Thanks for proving it. Great Work.
It was written by Albert Hammond and Mike Hazlewood, and first recorded by Albert Hammond on his 1972 album "It Never Rains in Southern California".then the song was first covered by Phil Everly of the Everly Brothers for his 1973 album Star Spangled Springer, then it was covered by the Hollies, who all made a huge success out of the song, then came truckload of covers over the years. The Bee Gees did very nicley as to getting it air play and making money out of it, Olivia Newton John did it, Judy Collins did it, Julio Iglesias with background vocals by the Beach Boys, Marty Robbins and even Hank Williams Jr. all covered it and still a truckload left to mention....but after Radiohead came out with their song 'Creep" in 1992, the Hollies sued Radiohead for plagiarism and won
not the same but inspired and partially stolen from...
Didn’t the hollies sue Radiohead because it was similar?
They did.
Yes mate they did
This needs to be released. It's fantastic.
There's a link to the track in the video description - it's on iTunes and Spotify...
Friggen goosebumps! How magnificent! Thank you!
Que fabulosa mezcla!!! . Conclusión, ni una ni otra, ambas son geniales.

A superb version by three super guys. I wish these lads loads of success and a huge thankyou .
Brilliant! How have I missed this for 8 years.
OMG The guy in the white shirt could not possibly look any more like Fry from Futurama!

Just amazing
What a brilliant mash up guys! Superbly performed-Excellent thank you
That was so fantastical!! Needed that in my life! Thank you!💚
Both brilliant songs and very well presented to one
Brilliant, fantastic, just plain amazing.
Wow, so clever as well as beautiful instrumentation and singing🎉❤
Wonderful comparison. I am an old woman but recognized the similarities when first hearing Air That I Breath. I love them both! Again, thank you!
Beautifully done. Thank you. Really love this.
Also, really pleased to find this - and other of your songs - on Apple Music! Happily added to my favourite playlist.
Wow amazing. Heard the Hollies track come up on Tidal, and googled this, and you came up first. This is so good, good job chaps.
First, great video and great performance, cheers guys! Definitely similar chord progressions but, far as I can tell, the Hollies didn't play Air That I Breathe in arpeggios. For the folks who want to say Radiohead "stole" or "plagiarized" anything here, I think that's pretty dubious. In western music, pitch is divided into an octave. Seriously, we only have eight naturals, six of em got sharps or flats, and pretty much every rock n' roll song is gonna be in 4/4 time with a handful 3/4 and 5/4, in tempos between 70 and 120 bpm. We're gonna continue to have lots and lots and lots of overlap, but to cry derivative just because songs share chords is like saying books are obsolete because all the words in the dictionary have already been written somewhere.
