The worse pitfall is saying lack of censorship, their internet mostly only works in Hanzi characters and not in pinyin or english and you will need to have a intermediate level of the language to navigate the apps. @@scott_howes i would suggest the app "hello chinese" "chinese easy" and "lingo deer" to learn chinese quickly and also i would suggest google translate and use its camera option which you probably already do. Baidu maps is only in chinese and is required to use the trains and buses but i just used google translate on the screenshots, it was fiddly at first but my trick is look at the characters of the destination and then find those characters on the map on the train you are in or on the bus you are in (if there is a map on the wall) then count the stops down. That was the biggest issue I had in china, I couldnt use didi in china either lol, as i had no chinese bank account, so i relied heavily on public transport. Chinese people are kind but I noticed that the amount of foriegners who speak chinese is common, so they will sorta expect you to speak chinese unlike other countries where they will try to speak english (something that happend to me was a lot of people talking up to me and asking me if n mandarin if i speak mandarin).
