I know this is long but there are some great takeaways in here for both male and female singers!
If you feel it's too long I'd be happy to edit it into 2 videos.
I don't want to remove any content as it's all very useful! Let me know how you enjoyed it and if the length is good!
    Thanks and enjoy!
Please leave a Comment and Subscribe if you'd like more videos like this as well as vocal technique videos, performance tools and tips and the inner game of singing (confidence, mindset) videos!

Dear Mike, Thank you so much for this awesome video! You are a great teacher! There's no need to split videos in 2 - the length doesn't bother me at all. I love the way you explain all the little details that nobody else mentioned/noticed. I realized that you specialize in teaching intermediate to advanced students, and maybe that's why. Even non-singers can benefit by learning to appreciate truly great singing. I am looking forward to more of your analytical reactions to Dimash songs!

OMG wowwww so impressive!! We all know Dimash is impressive, I'm talking about YOUR BREAKDOWN!!!! I can't believe anyone can ever make a 30mins technical analysis of Ogni Pietra! His other songs maybe, but Ogni Pietra?? And I enjoy it very much! 30mins has gone by and I'm not even bored AT ALL!!
Please do not shorten anything! Even if you make a one hour technical analysis of Dimash, I'll watch until the end!!
I learn so much from you! Thank you!!
Please do more of Dimash! I really love VERY DETAILED technical analysis of his technique because I DO believe, we all can learn singing from him! He's a great example of what a great singer should be!

I agree - the more detailed the better, as far as I'm concerned! There's so much we can learn from Dimash's rule-breaking mix of styles and genres that is exciting, inspirational and educational for those of *all* levels of ability :) The man himself is a great advocate of life-long learning, who sees himself as the perpetual student, but hopes to one day (one day?!) have the skills and knowledge he feels he needs, to be able to teach others... For those who may not know, Dimash has been in regular vocal training since the age of 5, and still is to this day, aged almost 26 - he also holds undergraduate Degrees in both Classical and Contemporary Music, is about to complete his Master's in Composing, and then fully intends to pursue his Doctorate - oh, and he's quite a good singer, too...!😉😂

Thank you so much for doing this and frankly it's one of the best analysis on this song I've seen. Very helpful! Dimash is indeed classically trained since a very young age, and apart from his evident gifted instrument, he has trained very hard to become the giant vocalist he is.
I would really love to listen your analysis on one other song of his (a cover this time), where he belts a mixed Bb5 for several seconds and after that he is doing some crazy pentatonic run on the same breath. The song is called "Sinful Passion" from the Sochi event. He has also performed a mixed C6 on another song, but it's very brief. In "Sinful Passion", the Bb5 is sustained for a crazy amount of time.

Mike, this is the first video of yours I've seen. I found it because I search for Dimash reactions every day, and you can certainly see why. Not only was your wonderfully detailed technical analysis not too long, I would enjoy it being even longer! My favorite thing in your analysis was how long you spent, starting at 13:15, on that one F#4 note. I've always felt weird that, as impressive as every note in this piece is, it's that one note that stops me in my tracks every time. The sound of if it is so unusual. I've never understood why just that one note makes my hair stand on end. Your technical breakdown is the first analysis to ever focus on just that one note. As you explained it, "a heady mix from the top down" that a classical soprano would actually be taught to never do, I begin to understand why it sounds so unusual to me. I've probably never heard it before, because nobody would have done it this way! Thank you, more please!

Dear Mike, I have been going through the comments and I haven't seen one telling you so here goes. When Dimash performed Sinful Passion a composer was there and after he heard Dimash he knew he wanted to work with him. His plan was to compose several songs just for Dimash and his abilities and this is the first song that he composed. The composer is Maestro Igor Krutoy and he has composed more and reworked other songs just for Dimash since this song.

Thank you for you analysis of this. No matter how many times I hear him he always amazes me. "OK show off," then shortly later "OK, now you're just showing off," 🤣🤣🤣 Those made me laugh. One of the most common statements about this video goes something like this, Dimash's duet partner: "I am sorry, but I can't make it to the show." Dimash: "Not a problem. I got this." He was born with the gift, but started training it when he was about five years old. He continues to seek out the advice of his voice teacher to this day. He says as long as he sings, he must continue to learn. Stay safe! Blessings to you!

Thank you so much for taking the time to analyze this. I would have loved to see your initial reaction, though. I love it when people's heads explode hahaha. I can't believe you've got 95 dislikes. WTH is wrong with people? Go watch another video, for crying out loud. Anyway Mike, just wanted to say that longer than usual vocal chords and 20 years of intense training has brought him to where he is now. He's received offers from various labels but refuses to accept any that try to dictate what kind of music he should sing. So much time is spent on getting the musical arrangement and the dancers (at his concerts) just right, that I wouldn't blame him if record labels wanted to turn him into one of those mass-produced singers. Nope, not naming names. The wonderful thing for me is that through all this sudden fame and fans around the world, he remains the same grounded individual who cares about people and his country. And he really is a product of his upbringing. I've never come across a star who is so humble. You should see him when he interacts with his fans. I'm sure he gives the security guards nightmares. You can see the joy on his face as he literally absorbs the love from the audience and gives it back to them in spades through his performance and on rare occasions, actually touching them. That's why you'll see people running up with flowers for him at the end of his solo performances. Stay safe and healthy, from South Africa

Mike, I have heard so many say it is a recording because they are watching how relaxed his throat is. That is PURE classical training. The air needs to flow not be forced. You will never see Dimash strain, it's a walk in the park.

Mike I found your analysis to be really amazing. Dimash can sing a E6 fairly easily because he can go up into his whistle register into his 7th & 8th octaves. Now not only is his range (D8) incredible but his ability to sing in vertually any vocal style in 12 different languages. We're talking Ukrainian Folk/Chinese Opera/ Rap/Jazz, a Professional Rock Singer/Voice Coach said he could be the best Rock Singer in the world if he wants to be. You've only scratched the surface of what this guy can do. I'd love you to react to the song "Know" performed at the VT Ice Palace in Moscow. I can assure you like all his performances you will be shocked at what he can do both musically and vocally. Keep safe. 😊🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿👍

Just finished watching the video. You were a wonderful reactor, and I no longer feel the need for two parts to the video. Ha ha. I wanna thank you for doing Dimash, I know I asked you to do him yesterday, and you took very little time to get to doing him. It wasn't the song I asked you to do, but I'm sure you'll get to that soon. I like how you didn't take too long to realize what he can do: like when you said "F#5,... as you'll see later that note is nothing for him!" . You also seem to understand that He can do several different things with his voice and sound like several different people. As you dive into your Dimash journey, you will realize he will never stop surprising you. Enjoy!

I'm not a singer---i lost my voice to annual bouts of broncho-pneumonia, years ago. But I am a learner, and since I encountered Dimash I've discovered the world of singers, and the fascinating stuff that makes up a beautiful vocal sound. For Dimash, who was born with perfect pitch, it has always been his great passion, even in infancy. You probably know that he started in Music Academy for gifted youngsters when he was 5. For him, it was initially a matter of putting names to things he already understood. Since those early days he has trained for 2-5 hrs. every day. So, what we hear is a combination of his natural ability, and the fine honing, honing, honing, of which he never seems to tire. In fact, I believe he does the concerts and tours to finance his freedom to sing, the rest of the time. However, he does love the love of his adoring fans. His secondary pleasure is knowing that he gives us such great pleasure.

Hi! Sorry for the long comment but here I go: Firstly: please please don’t cut the videos! I loved the in-depth breakdown of his songs. I was very, very impressed because you talked about/explained things that many vocal coaches/teachers may miss or not talk about. You were able to give men and women singing tips, with just one song! I love Dimash and I hope you’ll react to more of his songs.
Secondly: A quick note (maybe you caught it) but the very last note in Olympico was higher then the first time he sang that part. Anyways, a short background: Dimash is from Qazaqstan, and has been singing since he was 5 years old (he was enrolled into music school). He grew up in classical/opera styles. He has said he has elongated vocal chords and his range is roughly somewhere in the second octave to a D8 (as far as we know). That D8 was 5 seconds with vibrato and he sung it live in a concert.
Thirdly: Please react to Dimash and Li Yugang singing “Drunken Concubine” + “Diva Dance”. Li is a male Chinese opera singer who specializes in “nan dan” which is a man singing women’s roles. Dimash does a bit of *everything* here and Li is super amazing! It’s like a mix of two styles. Did I mention they sing “Diva Dance”? I think there are so many, many good things to break down in these two songs and I’d love to hear what you have to say about Li (and the entire performance, of course, because they have different styles, which is very cool). It’s one of my absolute favorite performances. Please put this in your list of reacts!!

Excellent reaction. Very informative. I really enjoy it. This singer is incredible. The range is freakish (from C2 to D8) but the tone and the emotion go with it. Is not just athletic is artistic. He is got loads of musics and followers in YT and is easy to understand why. For different takes on his voice you should react to "Unforgettable Day" (Gakku concert where he manages a D8 with vibrato) and "Your Love" (he sings in English and whispers, belts, whistles, you name it) this one is pop style.
