People are lazy. My cousin has gorgeous natural hair but she feels like she can just slap product on her head and go and get definition instead her hair frizz up really bad. She always talks about how my hair looks but I tell her all the steps I do and then she says “I don’t have time for that”.. I don’t even have that many steps lol
I used to do that and my hair was okay, but now I do a whole routine and it looks so much better. Of course I have bad hair days. But most times my hair looks good.

BEST TIP EVER: Wash your hair before your curls starts to tangle and be dry! If you see that your hair tends to be dry after 3-4 days, it is time to do your hair routine over again. I do it during very cold months.

I think I have officially overdosed on your channel. I’m currently at work and have been on your channel since 10am it’s now 2:16. I just wanted to say thank you for all your videos. Ive had my hair in wigs since about 8/2017 to get rid of color damage and I’m finally almost BSL so I wanted to play around with my hair again and wear it out and you gave me so many tips and product ideas
Sooooooo helpful I definitely use to be that girl who thought wash-n-go's just aren't for me and for whatever reason this year I made it my goal to achieve a poppin' wash-n-go. I definitely agree with all of the tips and implement them into my routine but one thing I do for my hair is after I apply my leave-in I apply a moisturizing cream of some sorts. This gives me extra moisture underneath my gels. You and Kim get me ALL the way together with these wash-n-go's.
about a month and a half ago i finally found my wash and go method after THREE/THREE AND A HALF YEARS of being natural. condition and detangle, shampoo, protein treatment(once a month) deep condition, then the LCO method for my wash and go. water, leave in, cream, oil to seal in the moisture. then gel.i would touch my hair and could rub my fingers together and BOOM! moisture for daysss. after the 5th day it started to dry out a lil. but i wash my hair every 7th day or sunday so i’m not sure if it’s worth doing a whole new wash and go on friday when sunday is 2 days away. i’m still working on single strand knots, my ends😬 and i’m noticing that although i thought i was high porosity some strands have beads of water on my strands after drying...those are my hair problems right now. but this video was so helpful. my hair is frizzy and i never could have though that it could be due to my terrible ends 😭
Also, I personally have found that I benefit from using silicones as a barrier against hygral fatigue, which I'm prone to, as well as fighting my extreme frizz (and sulfates to clean them out periodically). I understand that it's against the natural hair "rules", but don't be afraid to break the "rules" if it's going to make your hair/scalp stay healthy and act right.
One thing I would suggest for any routine is not be afraid to try mixing routines. For example, my curl pattern is similar to Jaelen's, but I have low porosity hair. So I may use some of her routine and mix it with some of the routine if someone who has low porosity like me to come up with a personalized routine that works for my specific hair.
I have low porosity hair and similar curl pattern to Jaelen's, so far I've found that my holy grail products are shea moisture and aunty jackies. The trouble I have is that my hair loves the regimen and products but using the same technique in summer here, I find my hair is quite dry and won't be if I deep condition every day of the week (i don't have this problem in other seasons). I live in Australia so our summer is usually about 40 degrees and in some places can reach 45 degrees. Is there anything different you do for your hair for different seasons?
I found for my hair that shampooing once a month and cowashing three times a week helps with my curls be less frizzy and more defined and more moisturized
I’ve watched this video every now then weekly because I need the encouragement been finger coiling my wash and go every week.. hopefully my curls will be trained by summer
Love this video!! Learning your hair and specific curl pattern is alot of trial and error because you have to learn your hair. For me the longer my hair is getting the easier it is to style and do wash n go's once I trimmed my damaged ends like litterally an inch or so I successfully achieved a wash n go . I love the fact that she brought up unrealistic expectations because alot of naturals watch youtubers with much looser curls than their own and think that because their wash n gos don't clump or look like the youtuber they're watching that its a fail and there's something wrong with their hair when its really just how their curls fall. A wash n go is unique from head to head no two are the same because were all so different some of us get defined loose curls and coils and some of us get a beautiful fluffy wash n go with less definition its all about learning and excepting your hairs limits. A 4A and 4C aren't gonna get the same wash n go results but that doesn't mean ones more beautiful than the other or that the 4C can't achieve a wash n go its simply because they have a different curl tightness ones not better than the other. Alot of my beautiful 4Cs think they can't do a wash n go because it doesn't look like a 4A's wash n go so they think there's something wrong with their hair and there is nothing wrong with a beautiful fluffy wash n go that's the beauty of being natural were all sooo unique so flaunt it!! Whether you have loose curls or tight kinks its all beautiful ✊🏽
I am a wash n go gyal 99.99% of the time. It's just too easy and it works for me. Weekly DCing, and just a Leavein and gel for the most part. But I will occasionally experiment with a butter in between. Thx for dropping knowledge Lil Sis!
I have 4c hair and in order for my wash n go to come out nice, its needs to be completely wet. I either do my hair in the shower or use a spray bottle to re-wet my hair if I’m doing it out of the shower. I also smooth the gel in my hair using the praying method so I don’t disrupt the coils/curls that are clumping. For the ones that don’t clump as well, I finger coil them and it makes them pop!
I've been so reluctant to do a wash n go because I don't think my curl pattern won't come out well but I guess with these tips I might as well try it out for myself 🤗
Very good tips! I tend to do my wash n gos at night and I do them in the shower because I am low porosity. Then when I’m done I just put a shower cap or a plastic bag on my head and sleep in it. That really helps the products marinate together and really penetrate my hair. Then in the morning I take it off and just let my hair air dry for the day. It usually takes all day to dry. Pineapple it at night and then stretch it with my blow dryer the next day.
After several years, last 2 months I finally found a great routine that my hair likes and I think I’m ready to do a wash and go following the great tips you gave us. I’m so so confident ☺️
This is cool! I have found that too wet makes product slip off my hair and cause my naturally frizzy hair to miss the good stuff. My hair does best when it's only slightly damp. I think I'm severe high porosity...if that's a thing. Water gets in really easily and it can dry out fast. Can you do a video on that?
That's not necessarily true. High porosity hair can have the tendency to easily become water-logged depending on environmental factors, an issue that used to be discussed a lot on relaxed hair forums, so I think it's a mixture of different variables that can result in undesirable results when styling.
@@markeliupson943 I'm definitely curious. I've never done the porosity test on my hair but I may try that to see. I always assumed it was because of how it responds to moisture but you may be right.
@Markeli Upson I had high porosity hair from using lighteners and heavy cream and oils worked terribly on my hair and did not "absorb" easily because the gaps in my cuticles were too big for the product to effectively *stick* (which is what heavy products actually do bcus the molecules are too big to penetrate strands) to the outside of my hair shaft. For this same reason, my hair kept a white cast for awhile and it was better for me to style on damp hair, as OP experiences. As I said previously, there are numerous factors that come into play when it comes to styling your hair according to its porosity, like humidity where you live, if you use high humectant products, and if you have hard water, use alkaline products, etc.
Andrea Davis same and literally in every video ppl be like soak your hair and I kept doing that and hated how my hair turned out until I seen happycurlhappygirl do a dry wash and go she did dampen her hair a little and I was like hmmm let me try that and wash and gos been popping since then .
Same. I think I have medium porosity hair, but I find that my hair takes to products a bit better when some of the water is taken out first, so I always dab my hair with a tshirt right out of the shower first, then style. But I also like more volume, and I find that styling my hair too wet causes my hair to lay too flat.
I have my method down for my fine 4 a/b hair! My fine hair enjoys daily to 2nd day wash n go's. If I go on second day hair, I spray my hair with an orange blossom/rosewater mix and I diffuse it! Best believe, it will be cowashed the next morning! My hair LOVES WATER!!!
Sis! You are dropping knowledge on the girls! I honestly believe in training your hair! Specifically training your hair to be moisturized with a good routine. I’m still in trial and error mode after years of being natural but I’ve had some success and definitely some fails. I wanted a nice amount of length to fight against my shrinkage. What works for my 4a is doing mine in the shower with the raking method then air drying for as long as I can then stretching out my roots with a concentration nozzle. I only wash and go in the summer ☀️
Hey girl! I am sooo heavy handed with product. And I use the fact that I’m high porosity as an excuse. Lol. I’ve noticed that those really thick gels is what makes my hair take so long to dry so I tend to go for a jelly or runnier/lighter gel
for me there is such a thing as too much water, like if my hair is saturated my curls won’t define. (weird lol ik) my ideal routine is applying my curl smoothie and gel on damp hair and THEN add water on top, then an oil and do the shingling method.
I just now got a routine I think works for me (after like a year of trial and error and a big fat setback called bleach) so here it is: my porosity is high, damage is high, mad coarse, mad dense, no clue what my curl pattern is because of the damage I’ve got but I’m somewhere in the type 3 range. My wash and go routine is pre poo with Camille rose cocoa nib scalp oil (smells goddamn amazing and is really soothing for my psoriasis) by massaging it in and running it through my hair a little bit then leaving it in for at least half an hour. Then I cowash with as I am cowash using a shampoo brush pretty heavily on my scalp. Then I use the Shea moisture Manuka honey conditioner, and sort of like rub it through (I know I need to put it in different but idk what to do) then leave it in while I wash my body. I always make sure my hair is super saturated with water when applying anything. Then I wash out the conditioner, make sure my hair is dripping wet (I have a tendency to sort of squeeze out the water when I rinse so I have to re-wet) and then put in a palmful or so of the Shea moisture Manuka honey leave in milk and massage it through my hair (it’s finally the one leave in that works on my dry ass hair, it makes my hair so soft), re wet it until it’s dripping (by cupping water in my palms and adding it so I don’t just rinse out the product), then add a pretty hefty amount of aunt Jackie’s curl la la and do the same massage and rewet routine, then my last product is the mielle organics pomegranate custard (the one that says deep definition on it, it’s in a tub). I loosely section my hair into 3-4 parts (I have 2-3 inches of hair and an undercut for 3/4 of my head so this is just about the top with hair) and go through it with a denman brush once or twice and gently scrunch. Then when I get out of the shower I gently scrunch with a microfiber towel or T-shirt to get some water out and clip the roots of a few pieces of my hair that just won’t behave. I keep my hands off of it until it’s got that cast on it, then diffuse on low speed cool airflow until there’s no more cast. So far this provides the most definition and softness for my hair
I never thought I could do wash and gos until I finally found an amazing gel last month. Now I’m obsessed, I’ve been trying different gel and leave in combos and methods. I’m trying the banding menthol right now for preserving it. You have to make learning your hair fun.
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! Your tips etc are GOLD- honest and easy to follow. I love how you emphasize that you have to listen to your own hair find what your hair likes/needs. Your breakdowns are great and your personality and humor makes your videos even better.
Repetition will also allow you to perfect your technique. Great video. Loved it. ❤️I’m a wash n go girl too. I can’t get a good twistout to save my soul.
Thank you so much. I need serious help for wash n go’s never got into them because I didn’t think my hair could look good with them. I also like the fact you said you use different products so do I . This was so helpful, thanks so much. I love your hair.
Thanks for the tips. I tried a wash and go and I achieved the desired level of curliness, but the roots puff and frizz. I am SO frustrated, but I am trying to keep the faith that I will figure out a routine for me.
I’ve trained my hair to be a wash n go and pretty much for me it was just moisture. Making sure i moisturizer my hair effectively and put the RIGHT products for me lol I usually finger detangle, hardly ever use a comb or brush. I usually do the denman for my ends though and I don’t use a blow dryer I air dry I prefer natural drying lol I don’t use heat all, no source of heat . And I’ve been having bomb wash b Gos. I’m a 3c/4a ... it works for me
Terralyn Nicole Hmm I think I actually just kind of used your method in a way today lol, I’m noticing that I actually have a looser curl pattern mainly because of my consistency with my hair being moisturized. I love to use a leave in and shea butter keeps my hair moisturized for a week or so. Except I’ve been doing twist outs and braid outs I have way to much frizz towards my roots and hate gels but love custards.
I feel like I've been doing "wash and go's" since I first went natural and didn't even know that was a thing lol. I'm a lazy natural, so once I found what worked for me, I just stuck with it... To me just washing/conditioning my hair, applying product, and drying it is much easier than pretty much anything else I can do with it, aside from a messy puff lol. The key is simply finding the right products, finding the right technique with your fingers, and being consistent. Remember your protien-moisture balance and learn to love even your naked hair (no products except a moisturizer/leave in) and you'll be golden 👌👍
Honestly god bless your soul!! I finally found the products that work for me, but I definitely didn’t have the technique and these tips are life changing! We have the same curly pattern (but obviously yours is more popping) and I am so excited to implement all your advice! Thank you for always having great content! Peace and love 😘🥰💕
This video is so helpful. I've been natural for several years. I have yet to do a wash n go but I really want to. I don't have the patience to do my hair so I stay in the salon faithfully. My go to protective style is a rod set. Your videos are starting to give me confidence that I can possibly attempt a wash n go.
You just inspired me to start a hair journal aka new notes section on my phone lmao Idk why I never thought to take notes on what works for my hair. I always sit there cold, soggy, and confused after I get out the shower trying to figure out what products to use. 😨 That'd be a cool video though. Wash n go roulette 😲
Lol trial and error. My 1st wash and No was a NO! I got it now. And your hair😍😍😍😍! And yes I want my hair to look just like yours. Still progressing...
SISSSSSSSSS. When I say you laid it ALL OUT?!? I’ve been doing wash n gos for a long time and thought I had it together, but this video just changed the game, honey! And we have the same curl pattern so your entire channel is LIFE! #ReignGangForeva
You not lying once you get that one popping WNG you learn from that and repeat. I have a hair diary where I put what I used that week for wash day, what & how I styled my hair. I then rate it also. So now I can go back and see what combo worked and can do it again. My best WNG routine was Shampoo, condition(which I now skip), deep condition. Used argan oil on my hair before anything, used the Eden BodyWorks Almond & Marshmallow Serum, then used the Mane Choice Braid Out Glaze and talk about shine and definition! I ad to make small changes and do trial and error, but I’m so happy I did!
I WAS JUST WATCHING YOUR LAST VIDEO WOOWW ! Can someone help me ? Everytime I've finished to do my hair and it dries it is always super oily and I don't understand why the oil don't go in my hair i dont know what to do..
I cut all of my hair on september of 2018, my hair is 4c type, and when i tell you i was ABSOLUTELY clueless about what i was going to do next with it im not telling even the half of the story. Point is that YOU along with my mom and my sister have helped soooooo much in this journey. I APPRECIATE greatly all the videos and effort you put in them and i make sure to like every single one. you save my life on 2018 and for that, thank you. Lots of love from the Dominican Republic 🌊💕💕
Listen....I am SO glad I found your channel!!! I am so tired of protective styles because my hair is fine and medium to low density, especially after losing some hair through post-partum shedding. AND I want my hair to grow, but I want to be able to enjoy it too! What's the fun in having all this curly hair if I have to keep it tucked away all the time? It's just frustrating....I did wash and go's for about a year a few years ago but I stopped because the longer it got, the more tangled it became, but I realize now that the missing step was tadaaaaaa STRETCHING!!!! 😒 I'm going back to wash and go's and not looking back lol Thank you!!!!! ❤
I have type four very coily hair and weirdly enough me applying product on soaking hair it’s almost as if it’s not penetrating. It also makes the product foam sometimes and very hard to work into my strands. The product literally won’t vanish so I have to work on damp hair and that seems ok for now!
Glad I found this video! I wast thinking about cutting my hair but that won’t change anything. I never try to wear my hair in its natural state and expect my hair to look bomb wet lol. I have to put in the work for the results.
I still haven’t mastered a successful wash & go, I usually just do braid outs. But I try to do them more in the summer cuz my hair takes foreverrrrr to dry (even with heat assistance) but in the summer my hair literally just turns into a frizz ball cuz of the humidity even my braid outs that I deff mastered 😩
Thank you sooooo much for this video, because I had a epic fail with my daughters first wash and go and was like well her hair isn’t for it, ended up doing a twist out. But this definitely gives me hope, especially when i am fully natural (transitioning)!!!!!!
I literally co washed my hair and hour ago and told myself i was gunna try a wash and go... i ended up just doing twists 😂i cant do it, I'm too scared, wash and goes tangle my hair like no other
I have never enjoyed watching a RUclipsr but I literally love yours! Honest, straight to the point, and I love your personality! I refer people to you the minute they say “Well I saw on RUclips...” 😂💕 I work at Sally Beauty when I am not training people in the gym so I hear it all day long! Keep up the great job!
My curls do not start at the root. My roots dont have elasticity(maybe cause i always wear ponytails) but my ponytails arent tight and idk how to repair my roots
If you have curls at the end, you have curls at the root since the root hair grew down to the ends. I suffer from cob web hair as well, but all you have to do is put more curling gel on your roots like applying a relaxer and your curls will pop! Let me know if that works for you.
Yes, of course! Keep trying until you did the method that works for you. Honestly, reading the comments... everyone has a different way to get their best wash n go, it's crazy!
Shingling never fails. It's take a lot of time but that's how you get the most definition to the root. I trade the raking method but my hair is too thick for that and it doesn't get to all my hair. My first ever wash and go was shingling and I had my man comment about women be doing too much and men do it way quicker and have good results. I watched a video of a guy with curly thick hair and he did the raking method and he was done rather quickly. I tried it to cut down and my hair was very big on day one and frizzy. So do what works for you.
The only thing that scares me is more tangles on wash day. My hair has a lot of shrinkage and by the end of the week it seems as if I will have hella tangles
Drop any wash n go tips you have! Sharing is caring 🤗

about a month and a half ago i finally found my wash and go method after THREE/THREE AND A HALF YEARS of being natural. condition and detangle, shampoo, protein treatment(once a month) deep condition, then the LCO method for my wash and go. water, leave in, cream, oil to seal in the moisture. then gel.i would touch my hair and could rub my fingers together and BOOM! moisture for daysss. after the 5th day it started to dry out a lil. but i wash my hair every 7th day or sunday so i’m not sure if it’s worth doing a whole new wash and go on friday when sunday is 2 days away. i’m still working on single strand knots, my ends😬 and i’m noticing that although i thought i was high porosity some strands have beads of water on my strands after drying...those are my hair problems right now. but this video was so helpful. my hair is frizzy and i never could have though that it could be due to my terrible ends 😭
Do you stretch your hair at all?
@@missoooooooof631 How do you stretch it
drop heavy butters and oils if you want more resources look at @iamblackgirlcurls on instagram
Did you have white flakes after putting the gel on top of the other products; how did you prevent this from happening--that's my problem
Yes this is key!!
You should check out Kimberly Cherrel .. she's great with wash and gos and she's low porosity!
@@denesharoberts9891 I actually do watch Kim, lol. I'm not a wash and go person, but her tips in maintaining moisture are great.
This is smart
I did a wash and go today and I could literally hear you saying “spray it again” like the Kermit memes
Lmao that’s exactly how I would’ve said it!
She she said “hit the red button “ I was like mines is gray the I realized I already subscribed lol😂😂
🤦🏾♀️🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Sooooo u don't get a cold??
Ashly Gonsalves lol 😂 I don’t leave the house with wet hair! Keep the heat in my house on full blast 😜
Need this because i feel like i cant get a good wash and go with my hair i dont think it works for me🥴
I have my method down for my fine 4 a/b hair!
What gel did you use?
MiSs OoOoOoOoF kinky curly curling custard! Trust me.
this sounds like tips for life and not just hair
It all goes hand and hand 🤗
Im just learning now I need to add a taste more gel on my roots because they like to disrespect me every chance they get😒 lol so I got that down
Yes! Sometimes the roots need more attention!
😂
Yes, soaking wet hair!! I always do my wash n go in the shower.
O'mya Rose Yessss girl! I really had to learn my hair! It’s all about consistency ! 💛👏🏾
You just inspired me to start a hair journal aka new notes section on my phone lmao
Idk why I never thought to take notes on what works for my hair.
I always sit there cold, soggy, and confused after I get out the shower trying to figure out what products to use. 😨
That'd be a cool video though. Wash n go roulette 😲
Lol trial and error. My 1st wash and No was a NO! I got it now.
And your hair😍😍😍😍! And yes I want my hair to look just like yours. Still progressing...
I watch your videos when I'm doing my wash and go's and they always turn out bomb
SISSSSSSSSS. When I say you laid it ALL OUT?!? I’ve been doing wash n gos for a long time and thought I had it together, but this video just changed the game, honey! And we have the same curl pattern so your entire channel is LIFE! #ReignGangForeva
What are the 4C hair girls doing about single strand knots?? It's the only reason i don't do wash and go's as often as i'd like
You not lying once you get that one popping WNG you learn from that and repeat.

Color Gel Part 2😍😍😍

The only problem I have is product flaking :( Any tips???
My curls do not start at the root. My roots dont have elasticity(maybe cause i always wear ponytails) but my ponytails arent tight and idk how to repair my roots
If you have curls at the end, you have curls at the root since the root hair grew down to the ends. I suffer from cob web hair as well, but all you have to do is put more curling gel on your roots like applying a relaxer and your curls will pop! Let me know if that works for you.

Come on with the tips sis! I know for a fact these things work. Me & wash n gos been besties for the past couple years
You know I had to let them know sis!!

Question 🖐🏽. What about a curl smoothie to reduce frizz ?
Jaelen, how long do you normally sit under the dryer? I sat under it for 2 hours and my hair was still wet at the roots at the crown and the back.
It takes me maybe 30!
