    Fun Fact: Make it Pop performed a song called "Do It!" on the show which also ended up being the same song on HyunA's 5th Mini Album A'wesome. What happened was that the producer wrote the song in a 'kpop' writing camp, where the song ended up in Cube Entertainments possession. But Cube shelved the song for years, so the producer sold the song to Nickelodeon I guess expecting that it wouldn't be used. The song is literally the same structurally, though the HyunA version is far more refined and modernized. Megan Lee reacted positively to this when it happened, flattered that such a popular singer performed it. Cube on the other hand was not a fan and said they would file legal proceedings against the producer for double selling the song.

    I remember taking my younger sisters to the Wonder Girls concert in Dallas back in 2010 - I really underestimated how big they were, until I saw the crowd of people and the response from fans. I think it's hugely understated how important the Wonder Girls' visibility was instrumental to introducing k-pop to the west, even if they didn't reach the heights they deserved. I was witnessing history and had no idea at the time, but I'm truly grateful I got the opportunity to be part of it.
    I would love a video on Teddy Riley and how important he has been to k-pop, especially with his work with Rania and Exo. I think he regularly produces music for several artists.

    I feel like Nickolodeon really just loves anything trendy. That’s why I agree with this vid. I mean let’s look at who Nick invited or created from/ onto their network: Beyoncé, Britney Spears (when they were the main pop female artists running the game and setting the standard) Big Time Rush ( formed after the popularity by 1D), Make it Pop(from the popularity of female KPOP groups), Super-M, Monsta X etc.

    • @misoasoda340
      @misoasoda340 2 года назад +3

      This is so true! They were always eager to have what Disney had so ofc they follow up with whats popular at the moment. Nickelodeon has always incorporated real musicians for their shows. It’s like Disney Channel except it’s “musical career” began years before. That’s why so many of their most popular films are basically musicals (Victorious, BTR, Camp Rock, other old shows that literally no one knows because they flopped, etc). But I don’t think they should stop incorporating popular artists onto their shows lol it helps them gain more fans and overall media attention. It just has to be done right.

    I learned about Kpop through Nickelodeon. The first girl group I knew of was SECRET and their song "I Do I Do". And the first boy group (well, more of a boy band) was CNBLUE (yeah, I know what happened to them) and their song "Can't Stop". There's another music video that Nickelodeon played, but I forgot the name. All I remember is that the video has a girl in love with a guy, but she doesn't know another guy loves her and is jealous. And it takes place in winter.

      I honestly don’t think that it was even appropriate during that time. The “western market” wasn’t even aware of KPOP so it was bound to flop but thanks to the growth in media things have changed. Bts honestly pioneered the future successes of other KPOP groups in gaining a higher chance of achieving international attention/success.
      But groups (i…refuse to name names💀) who HAVE changed their concepts to cater towards the western market have..not been my favorite. Labels only care about the money so 🤷🏽‍♀️ I don’t think they care about their idols “staying true to themselves” lmao

    • @angiee1603
      @angiee1603 2 года назад

      @@misoasoda340 I think we have to keep this all in perspective. BTS gets a little too much credit for the breakthrough. This video shows that other groups and soloists were banging at the door way before BTS. So by the time BTS was getting big, they had an easier time getting recognition in the US than they would have otherwise. Also let's not discount Kdramas in this conversation. I'm sure a lot of people found Kpop by way of Kdramas just like how my sister found Japanese music through anime. In recent years as Netflix in America has lost a lot of titles due to the rise of other streaming services, that empty space is being taken up by more foreign language shows and movies including a lot of Kdramas. Also contrary to popular opinion, Americans do actually listen to and watch a good bit of foreign media.

    I’m not sure how to feel about. I can see and understand the bad side of what could happen. Korean culture being disrespected and down played. Right now I think what we need is educational shows and movies about Kpop and Korean culture. Since we still have people here in America that assume any boy group is BTS and saying Kpop is for children etc. I think we need to make educational stuff tell we see an improvement on respect of the culture and society . Then later we can focus on the children. And makes things for kids. What really hurts me right now is how much hate and disrespect Kpop gets. It’s more then just an MV or it’s lyrics. There is a lot behind the face value means. Look deeper and you’ll find that Twice , a cutie girl group , talk about things like depression. And BTS that talk about self love and acceptance. Red Velvet who’s MV show the true meaning of the song. Happiness dealing with the troubles in the world to Peek-A-BOO which Wendy herself said they understand and know what the rainbow dresses mean. Groups like Everglow who talk about standing up for yourself. Soloist like Taeyeon who uses her solo music to talk about depression and freedom. If adults get educated on what Kpop actually they wouldn’t talk so much shit about it. Then kids wouldn’t inherit the hate around Kpop in America. A lot of things would change if we only made educational things. I think that’s what we need to do and start with first.

He knew the genre was going to become huge and he was right. He advocated for more representation of both KPOP and Asian leads on American televisions as that wasn’t even as common.
    I remember watching the show when it aired, not even knowing what KPOP was, and I loved it. Everything that is popular is mocked. Western KPOP fans should’ve given constructive criticism. Yes, the show may have had cringey moments but everything on Nick during 2010+ was cringe- get a grip. The show was cute and innocent lmao

    Man, you just can't please Western Kpop fans. They complain about EVERYTHING. And what's worse is the loudest ones are usually the minority, not even Korean, toxic fans that give everyone else a bad name. Also, I wish people would not speak of KPOP and Korean culture interchangeably. Yes, K-pop is part of the culture here in South Korea but it's not everything. Not even all Korean music is kpop. Korea is so much more and our culture is so much more than kpop

    Most of the people that complain about K-pop inspired anything are not even Korean to begin with. thats the funny part. I'm just grateful we could see it over on this side of the world.

    I loved make it pop. #sunheenation ✌🏼
    but they clearly didn't know what they were doing and let the show fail. At least everyone there escaped the usual nickelodeon tween show curse and possible harm like everything evil dan schnieder did. I blame nick canon for the flop, that era was him trying to use others for his flop music career and since Mariah was no longer giving him an allowance and clout he tried with kpop. He eventually stayed back in production and hosting which is why Wild n out has lasted so long and he makes money off nickelodeon which he uses to pay for all of his kids except mimi's. Anytime kpop tried to make a mark in America it was handled poorly. BoA's US debut came too late especially since she had teamed up with Sean Garrett and his style of rnb dance tracks had died off along with Timbaland and danja by the time her US debut happened. Had she done it a year earlier she might have stood a chance but by 2009 pop music in the US was electropop thanks to songs like Pokerface by Lady gaga and Hot n Cold by Katy Perry and tik tok by Kesha. Psy was just a viral hit like the Harlem shake thanks to a rule change in billboard to allow streams & youtube views to count for chart points. I loved we bare bears and was happy to see monsta x be featured and how much of a sasaeng pan pan was lol I mean who could blame with especially with Wonho (just check his Instagram 😍) but also the cartoon featured Chloe who is a Korean American girl so it made sense that kpop would show up like how other Asian culture would pop up in the cartoon. I've been a kpop fan since the 1st wave with BoA and baby vox (which was really hard back in the early 2000s with the internet not being easily accessible and just only trying to catch the kpop variety shows on MBC [ch.18]) so it's really exciting to see so much push and acceptance of kpop here in the US. Back then it was treated as very niche or even Otaku thing which just shows u how ignorant people are/were.
