    story #3 made me physically ILL
    I don't understand how MIL could keep pretending she's been given "signs" or whatever when she's been SPYING on conversations
    I also don't understand how MIL herself doesn't feel uncomfortable reading such private conversations between her son and his wife
    the husband's reaction makes me wonder if she's been infringing on his sense of privacy since he was young so he's desensitized and is therefore more able to be angry for her and not himself.

    Oh man, the lady interrupting the business dinner gave me so much secondhand anxiety and embarrassment! The moment she said he was at the same place and didn't acknowledge her, I just kept thinking, "Ignore him. Ignore him. Talk to him at home. Ignore him." When she said she went over to the table, I cried out in horror. When she INSISTED and pulled him away for up to 10 minutes, I died and was sent to the great beyond.

    My husband is completely lost in the kitchen when it comes to cooking, so that responsibility is mine alone, however it's never something expected of me. If I don't feel like cooking I don't have to, we call them fend for your self nights. When I do cook, which is most nights, my husband does the dishes. Good on OP for the cookbook on a plate. He's almost 30, she's not his mother and he is completely capable of finding his own food.

      My husband cooks often because he likes the kitchen, it's mostly me doing dinner though. However literally 2 nights ago I had committed to cooking dinner but I joined the discord (he was gaming with friends) "Hey I just suddenly got really tired and lost all will to cook, would you be satisfied with Dino nuggies?" He took the dino nuggies happily and I went to lie down.

    • @songpoetry1
      @songpoetry1 Год назад +14

      Yeah, my husband is the same. He can't cook and I'm pretty good at it. When our first baby turned out to be a super-colicky newborn, I didn't cook for three months because I was barely surviving. Not once did he criticize me for that. Now he takes her after he's home from work so that I can cook. He also works overtime each week so that I can stay home with her and her future siblings, because he's an actual traditionalist (not just a lazy POS who uses it as an excuse). The 30-year-old manchild had me shaking my head. We as a society need to set the bar for men higher, because I hear of way too many stories like that and it's almost always the guy being a manchild.

      Exactly, my roommate in college cooked us dinner nearly every night. And I made sure I was in that kitchen chopping things, stirring things, whatever he needed me to do, while cleaning up the kitchen/doing the dishes as time went on so that by the time we were done the kitchen looked like it hadn’t been used and we could enjoy our food. In the early days I was worried that maybe he was overburdened and was secretly wishing I made meals too. But I’ve never been a cook, and he knew that by seeing what I fed myself lmao. So I asked him about it and he laughed and told me not to worry about it because he really appreciates me doing the dishes and one of his favorite things is cooking with friends and family, so he saw my effort as a fair trade. God I miss him 😂 my standards for roommates are so high now

It will help you not come off as creepy and it's good to learn to notice those things anyway. Best of luck.

      I'm female, and I still keep this in mind because I don't want to compliment things that a person might have a lot of insecurities about it or compliment them if they look like they're losing weight or getting in better shape because you never know if someone has an eating disorder or is losing weight because of stress or a health issue. But with hair or outfits or makeup, etc., those are things the person chose to look a certain way and probably like.❤

    Also, that husband is trash for making his wife's photoshoot all about HIM. He has no obligation to feel aroused by the photos, but the fact that he just refused to look at them and called her desperate when all she wanted was for him to acknowledge the courage it probably took to STRIP DOWN IN FRONT OF A PHOTOGRAPHER. I do it for all, but the amount of confidence and self love radiating from older women and bigger women when we’re done is at least 80% of why I do it. This is your sign to book yourself a boudoir shoot!!! Men too!

We were discussing dinner plans and he said he had an idea. But then he couldn't cook because he needed to study. I said, "Show me the first steps and tell me the rest and I'll cook while you study!" The one with the mother in law snooping and finding the pregnancy test has SO many horrible things going on. Firstly, there are so many reasons why if it had been real, things were handled poorly. The pregnancy test could have belonged to a friend as was suggested, OP could have been pregnant but not been ready to tell anyone yet until she felt it was safe to assume the pregnancy would stick and not result in a miscarriage, and also false positive pregnancy tests can happen. As was said one of the worst things about this aside from the actual snooping was the fact that the mother in law thought it was okay to just go and tell everyone, including her son before even consulting OP or giving OP the chance to tell him if she had been pregnant. And then to have the audacity for people to call the OP a liar when she NEVER told anyone that she was pregnant is what really pissed me off. If the husband can't see any of the problems in this scenario and is mad at OP then I don't think this marriage will/should last. I can understand being annoyed at the specific trap that OP set if it's a touchy subject, but he's completely ignoring EVERYTHING that his mother did wrong and clearly will never put his wife's feelings/needs above his mother's.

      Once you get into entitlement, it doesn’t matter if it comes from a good place. Ex: men may love s e x and express lovingly that they miss connecting with you in that way but once they get demanding or pushy. It’s no longer done in a loving way, they don’t care that you are too busy and that’s the problem. There is a two fold issue, even in the midst of your overwhelming day, they think there needs matter more than yours as well as the fact by demanding of you during that busy time they also aren’t supporting or taking anything off your plate. It’s a very selfish mindset

Even though I have ADHD I still have the responsibility to fulfill my obligations and take care of myself. I just have to use different strategies and it’s a little harder. But I refuse to believe I’m any less mentally capable, it would feel ableist almost I think?

      My bf is this forgetful from both ADHD and ASD but I can tell he is trying, it's like there is a wall between remembering the thing or the reminder and doing it. It's not his fault but it has reached a frustrating crescendo because he is not medicated. I talked to him about this and he has finally made an appointment to try something out.
      He was diagnosed at 18 and has made it this far but it's not working anymore.
      The forgetfulness waxes and wanes, it's clearly involuntarily. I will feel ignored but I know how to separate my feelings from the disorder as much as possible as well. Every day is a new day. I can ask him to do something immediately and it's no problem for a whole day and another day he is asking me what I even asked for.
      He had to go to the bank to change his password 3 times because he didn't even remember his username and he kept forgetting to write it down.

  • @elisaf6147
    @elisaf6147 Год назад +5

    It's kind of counterproductive how often we hear comments like "his mother is coddling him" or "you're his partner, not his mother" because we're still saying that 1) it's always the woman's fault and 2) it's always the mother's job to take care of the child (even when the child is a 30 year old man). We should be mindful of language because it shapes our reality. Whenever I say I'm going to do a chore around the house, my boyfriend has stopped saying "shall I help you?" because him "helping me" would mean that it's my job; he now says "shall I do that with you?" instead. That way it's a chore we do together and not someone's specific job since we both have jobs outside our home. Chores are something we do equally because we're both adults and it's our responsibility

    The first story with yall's takes hit home for me. I recently got out of a relationship where I was expected to do all of the housework myself, while my partner would come home and immediately play video games. She would say that I am not expected to do it, but if I wasn't doing it, it wouldn't get done. There were times where she would say she was going to do something, for example do the dishes, and I would give it days, once even a week or so, and they would never get done. When I confronted her about it and expressed how I felt I couldn't trust her word when she did this, she would turn it around on me and say that I was nagging her and that I wasn't working with "her timeline" and if I just wouldn't bother her she would do it. Now I know this is gaslighting and victim reversal and that I wasn't the problem, but at the time I felt like I was going insane. Nothing I would say, no amount of communication worked. It was like trying to reason with a brick wall.

And so I grew up not really smiling much in pictures, around my mom or with a lot of people. When I was 15 a boy told me that he liked the way I smiled when no one was looking. He said it brighten up the room. That complement gave me confidence to smile more.
    About 7 years ago I put in a red dress and my mother pointed out how much she hated the color red on me. I loved the way the dress looked on me so I ignored her comment and we headed out to IKEA. Call me weird if you must, but I love their pizza😅 and on the way out we grabbed a slice and sat to eat it. As I was grabbing the slice to bite it, a little girl from a table nearby came to me and said she really liked my dress and that I look like a princess. i’m autistic, and i have always had issues when being given gifts cus even if i’m super excited about it or i’m happy, other people don’t think i am. once my friends did something amazing for my bday and i really loved and appreciated it but i wasn’t giving them the reaction they wanted, so they thought i wasn’t being appreciative but i really was, but i was burnt out so i didn’t have as much energy to mask. i had also just been told some bad news about family members before this & i thought that was why i wasn’t “acting normally” but it’s cus im autistic & just don’t show emotions the same way as allistic people. and this has always been an issue, like if i say im happy then im happy. i wont ever say something i don’t mean. but this was before i knew i was autistic so i wasn’t able to give these disclaimers and people just thought i was a bad friend🤷🏻‍♀️

    I love this pod so so much. But I get extremely triggered when y’all completely ignore when a man raises his voice at a women. We only know so much from the restaurant story, but under no circumstance should a man “scold” his wife. Especially in front of her parents. She used the word scolded which is a negative connotation. I just get bothered how y’all excuse this more times than often. I understand we are human & we all fall short, but I grew up with abusive men till I ran away from home. Do I think what the women did was ignorant ? Absolutely. But for the man to scold her. There’s a way to confront a situation & it just makes me sad how y’all never just make a comment about the way men talk to these women.

    One time when I was like, 14, I was at Walmart, looking in the clothes aisle while my mom was off looking for food, and I noticed a few girls my age(super pretty) looking and pointing at me with their friends n me being the insecure 14 year old I was thought they were making fun of me, but then they sent one of the girls over to me n she came up to me n said “hey, I just wanted to say that I think you’re like, really pretty, and I was wondering if I could get your number” n I was SHOOK. I was super flattered n gave her my number n we’re still friends to this day(I’m 16 now)

    As a person who’s parent was extremely invalidating and emotionally aggressive as a child there is a HUGE difference between “I’m sorry you feel that way” and “I’m sorry I made you feel that way”
    Edited to say the edition of those two small words were the hallmark of my relationship with my mom changing for the better. You can be mad at the consequences of your actions all you want but nothing gets better until you accept your licks.

    Why does the guy in the boudoir pictures post act as if his wife is fifteen years older than him or something? There's only a two year age gap between them. He acts as if he's twenty five or twenty six to her forty one. I hope she dumps him and so that he can be alone and miserable.

    By far the best and most entertaining podcast out here.
    Maybe its because it lets us judge people and kind of "gossip" without actually knowing them or actually ruining anyone's life like you would if you were to actually be gossiping about them and discussing such personal matters openly like you do on the show in real life, about actual people you know and among people that would know them too. So its like a guilt free space where can all mutually connect in a way, if you know what I mean.
    either way, love the show, love you guys, keep it up. I haven't even listened to this whole episode yet, but I'm super excited already!

    i have always wanted to get a Boudoir shoot done for me. I have never really felt sexy, even when i feel my prettiest... maybe it's the neurodivergence or the queerness... or maybe because i was never raised to be comfortable with my body or sexuality... or maybe because i was never told that i can be sexy?? anyway i have always wanted to do those shoots, alone and with with my partner if i ever find someone. I just think it is sooooo sexy and beautiful to be able to appreciate your own body and see it in all its glory and seriously if my partner presented me with an album of their Boudoir photos i think i might faint with just how gorgeous they look.

Btw Morgan, I would suggest doing Rosemary water rinse and Fenugreek spice it helps stimulate hair growth for thicker hair as well. Mint is also very beneficial. Cloves. Look into Ayurvedic scalp massages too. Its a nice natural way to add to those supplements you take ♥️ Your scalp will thank you. Also hair is energy, only positive talk and thoughts! Much love

    mommy-gf-wife pipeline is ovveerr. Every man should know how to cook, not attempt an immediate transition from mommy cooking to him being cooked for by a woman.
    My bf is not an excellent baker but he can make most dishes and we made a pie and he made the crust, I made the filling and we both had a delicious pie to eat. It's important. There have been times I can't even bathe myself from a migraine, he made me food and washed me like I am a little baby and it helped me get better and it was so loving and comforting. There are so many women who have migraines or other things that can be physically limiting, besides getting regular sick.
