I can see why they cut it - it makes Miranda seem nicer and more human much earlier. However, I think she did seem quite nice in the final cut, at the end, with the little smile as Andy walks away, and that sarcastic but complimentary reference she gives to Andy's next employer.
However, it does more closely match the book. Although written by Lauren Weisberger (the Andi character), Miranda's motivations and the difficulties of her job/life were better described. Ironically, in the book, I felt that Andi was the problem as she was hired to do a job, and in many ways couldn't/wouldn't do it - blaming Miranda, for her own failings.
Emily was always slightly nicer to Andy in the film, she was just a bitch because she thought Andi was ridiculous (and Andi had just saved Emily from a really embarrassing / fireable situation so Emily would have been somewhat grateful)
Nope. Glad they kept it out. The "drunk spouse at a party causing a scene" scene would've been too much and too cliche. Seeing Miranda arguing with her husband when Andy went to deliver the Book to her home was enough to hint her marriage was in trouble. Near the end of the movie when we see Miranda in her hotel room, face puffy from crying and no makeup, was the perfect time to show that beneath that icy facade she's still only human; her life isn't all perfection and glamour and she has her vulnerable moments.
Exactly. This humanized Miranda way too soon. The scene where she talks about divorce also shows that Miranda sacrifices her personal life for professional sucess and that her and Andy really are similar.
Not only that, there's a part in this scene where Andrea also helps Emily and Emily thanks her. If they had put both this scene and that scene together, it would have been too much.

Thanks for showing us this important scene!!!
@@karenstrycharz1499 I kind of thought the fat that Emily forgot the ambassador and his partners name was the reason she chose andrea. I always wondered why they omitted this from the movie... but I understand now. It would've messed up the whole entire flow of the movie if they would've kept it in. The softest side of Miranda was shown at the very end of the movie where she acted like she didn't know who Andy was when she waved but when she got in the car with her windows up, she gave a soft smirk!!
They replaced it with the scene where Emily instead thanked Andy for saving her and Miranda by remembering the Ambassador's name. That scene was more appropriate for the film I suppose.
Emily's part in this scene is understandable considering the fact that 1. Andrea complimented Emily for being thin & 2. Andrea saves both Emily and Miranda from shame for knowing the ambassador and his mistress. As for Miranda's part, the "thank you" part was shocking in a sense that it's not her nature. Though that deleted scene may have triggered her to replace Emily from joining her to go to Paris.
The scene is not only wrong by being against Miranda's character, it is even far worse when Andy is supposed to be pleasing someone by looking away from him while he is talking.

It is shocking. Miranda was made out to be this perfect, powerful person who had her entire life together and in this scene it shows her husband is a drunk and that her life isn't all that perfect.
Sure but Miranda is only vulnerable around one person and that's her husband. We see it towards the end of the movie and I think this scene should have been left in. I don't say that about deleted scenes often. The only thing is I would have taken out Miranda mouthing the words 'thank you'. Now that would make her way too vulnerable to someone else besides her husband.
She definitely was a strong business woman but by the looks of this she was a heck of a mother too. She put up with this jerk to avoid keeping her personal life in the papers which as she later states only hurts her daughters and of course having a husband like this might make people question whether she was fit for the position. I feel for Miranda with this scene. Besides...Im just now realizing that it was never actually said that Steven was the one who asked for the divorce. Maybe it was her and she was giving him the opportunity to get his act together when she told Andy "well if he decides to rethink the divorce then by sll means fetch away." Of course Miranda, what with her career obsession could have been the cause to him making a scene in front of her boss.
Good they deleted this scene, it would have threw off the flow but also makes sense why Miranda changed her mind about Andrea going to Paris instead of Emily. Also, this definitely shows how quick on her feet Andrea was in times of crisis.
I think the movie could have worked with or without it cause this also showed that her technical boss was the reason she had no time for anything and that her husband was angry at him cause of it which would also explain Miranda's character and even more so why she chose her to go to Paris with her.
This is the first time Miranda showed any visible appreciation to Andy. It would’ve made it very difficult to continue seeing Miranda as a stern and difficult boss later on. Glad they took it out.
This scene show you why that Andy was the best personal assistant. She had a whole lot of common sense and intelligence. Her spirit was just natural. A lot of girls who had died for that job. But, none of them had a bit of an ounce of what Andy had. Miranda has seen that in her.
This scene is actually really good cause it does show another side to Miranda and Emily and humanises them! The "thank you" was a bit much but if they had have just changed it to a grateful nod it would have worked. It was good to see her husband too!
I feel like this scene was the most important. It would not ruin the other scenes but it would make the relationship between Miranda and Andy even more stronger and more emotional in the end when they cut the communication/both go in different directions
If this scene had been included, Miranda's divorce would have been a foregone conclusion and it would have muddied the main point of the story: life at the top comes at a price. Miranda always puts her career above everything else and her personal life suffers as a result. Faced with the same choice, Andrea gives up the high flying life and tries to strike a balance between her career and relationship.
This is a great scene, but the ending smile is better, it’s more Miranda. In my opinion, Miranda chose Andy for the job because of her drive, inner confidence & willingness to excel. I could be totally wrong, but the difference between Andy and the rest of the thousands of girls who would have died for her job, is her intellect.
i think this scene also showed Emily's softer side towards Andrea. She even said "have fun" to Andrea, a small but intimate gesture that Emily barely showed throughout the movie. if you watch this scene and compared it with the one on the film where Andrea was fidgeting, Emily simply said "just go, i can handle it from here". very telling!
Actually it would have made sense if they kept this scene because Miranda loved him and judging from the scene where she is crying, you can tell she doesn't want another divorce. So her thanking andrea for avoiding a fight makes senss. Also Miranda starts to warm up to her anyway, especially when they're in the car right before Andrea quits. Emily was also starting to like her until she was replaced.
If there wasn't Miranda smiling parts, this would explain better why Ravitz tried to replace Miranda. Her husband embarrassed her in front of her boss.
It also makes you wonder if hubby did it on purpose. Especially when you put together how Andi's BF is behaving (and her friends, as well) follows the theme of having to choose between relationships and a successful career. After listening to what the husband said and how he looked at the boss after making that kind of scene and saying something so rude, I get premeditation vibes. He really seemed to Want to get Miranda in trouble.
Yeah this scene was was not needed. We see a glimpse of Miranda’s soft side when Andy overhears those two arguing when she drops off the book. Miranda is trying to explain and apologize about missing lunch with her husband. He is all “they were looking at me like ‘oh he is waiting on HER AGAIN!’” Also, we see Miranda crying when her husband filed for divorce BUT she is upset for her children. She lets Andy in for like 30 seconds revealing she knows how the papers will write about her and all that but she doesn’t necessarily care about herself. It’s her babies.
thank for who cut it out, this ruining all miranda's character. the ending of this movie was perfect and more valuable to explain what miranda should do with "thank word" to andy.
Personally, it's still one of my favorite films and I may end up watching it tonight. That one minute does not change the film for me. As the Miranda character did become softer towards the end. But I can understand why they deleted it. They didn't want her to become chummy so soon into the film.
I've watched a lot of deleted scene from this movie. . . I thought I saw them all. When I clicked on this one, I was thinking to myself, "I probably already saw this one" . . . I watched it until the end, then I knew . . . no way did I ever see this . . . I would have remembered it -- it's too shocking!
It's a great scene but it would've somehow had to happen after Andy quits. Like, she just happens to be at the same party, recognizes Miranda and figures she'll say hello, then the awkward moment occurs, then Andy salvages, and Miranda thanks her. Then a little later we see Miranda watch Andy leave and she smiles, realizing no matter how competitive the world is, there is both room and need for kindness and altruism.
This scene makes a lot of sense!!! this could have been a catalyzer for the later plot point of Miranda being replaced. It'd make sense, since: why would they have Nigel telling Andy that Mr. Ravitz has a huge ego? Because then he'd want to replace Miranda because he got veeeery offended by her husband's remarks. Also, it wraps up with the idea of Andy complaining never to have a "thank you from her" like, this is the moment! she got what she really wanted, gratitude, on an extreme circumstance. But I get it, it cuts the flow of Miranda being shown as very mean, so they had to delete this scene. Wish they hadn't. Explains a lot
They should if kept this scene. Because Miranda is so cold, the thank you is shocking. And it sets up the problems with her marriage and the upcoming divorce. And this is why she takes Andy to Paris. It ties everything up a little better.
This scene should have been included. Miranda said “thank you” in a very human and vulnerable moment, responding to something wise and perceptive Andy did to save her. The only time we’ve seen Miranda vulnerable really was when Andy saw Miranda when Miranda’s husband said he wanted to decide on a divorce. To see such a powerful woman cut down.... twice... by someone said woman was trying to please when everyone else was trying to please her... there’s something heart-wrenching about it, even poetic.
I see both sides. It does make Miranda seem more human, but she still doesn’t smile like she does at the end, so I don’t think that scene would have lost it’s impact. Leaving it in would also provide more explanation for Andy being home late. But the drunk husband did also seem like a cliché, and the audience does see the marital issues later on anyway.
Good thing they took this out. It's an over the top cringy scene. Andy shouldn't have looked to Miranda for validation and completely ignore the man she was suppose to save from complete humiliation just to ignore him even for a second during the conversation..
Actually, she's that mean to her employees because she probably had very perfectionists and demanding parents which gave her very little affection, making her feel closing loved by them only by her results wich mostly didn't impress them often
Her toxic relationships are just a result of her very troubled relationship of her parents, probably her dominant icy mother and her dependent and self failure father
I would like to see a shorter version of this scene in the movie. The movie shows how everyone has to deal with Miranda, but this scene shows a glimpse of what Miranda has to deal with. I would jus have left out the part where she mouths "thanks" to Andy because it would change the entire dynamics of their relationship for the rest of the story.
The guy was Miranda's husband. He was drunk and making a scene. Andy dissolved the situation. It most likely explains why Miranda chose Andy over Emily to go to Paris. But we (most people in the comments and I) think it was deleted because it made Miranda seem too human. Her mouthing "thank you" is rather out of character, and I think seeing her with messy husband might cause you to sympathize with her too quickly.
This would've totally disrupted the character development of Miranda. She simply doesn't give acknowledgement for a job well done. The acknowledgement is that she has no complaints, especially with assisting staff. The only one who may get commended for his work is Nigel (Purrfect), but even then Miranda uses the situation to put everyone else down (At least someone came to work today - or whatever the exact verbiage is). She needed to stay ice-cold. When struggling with her personal life, she was bitter, only to switch back to ice-cold again. What we see in this video was a moment of warmth. Not warmth, but solar heat, at least for Miranda.
They deleted this scene because they didn't want to show Miranda's soft side. She is supposed to be very cold.
+Hedwig Galit-Pulgada exactly

That's the point... maintain that mask all the way to that scene with no makeup.... to do it earlier destroys that strict persona...
And also Emily, she was very kind with andy when she said good bye...she show a soft side as well..
If they would have kept this scene then the ending scene where Miranda looks at Andy, then sits in the car n smile would have lost its charm.
I think she was smiling because of her ''impact'' on Andy's life, she looked better after working there and was fixing her toupee as she was walking

Omg I didn’t know I needed to see this scene. It completely makes you look at the divorce differently
OMG... This scene is AMAZING.
was initially thinking "eh not that shocking, just drunk husband" but then i legit gasped lol
I've watched a lot of deleted scene from this movie. . . I thought I saw them all. When I clicked on this one, I was thinking to myself, "I probably already saw this one" . . . I watched it until the end, then I knew . . . no way did I ever see this . . . I would have remembered it -- it's too shocking!
this scene was in the movie.
OMG, after all these years....
It was good that they dropped this scene. Can't imagine Miranda saying thank u.
Instead of a “thank you” a head nod would be perfect.
This actually adds to the notion that Miranda and Andy are the same person.
OK MOST IMPORTANT SCENE EVER! WHY WAS THIS CUT????
This is the reason why Miranda said to Andrea in the car. Why I never seen these scene before???
This scene is too much positive about Andy. She reacts so quickly and intervenes into her boss relations.Unbelievable!
I love that film💕
More than one great scenes in one deleted scene..
I wish they had kept this scene! All that time I thought her husband was a decent man!
why did they cut this????? It makes so much more sense now that miranda choose her to go to paris
CornPoppy010 This scene shows Miranda's softer side, so the end of the movie would've lost its charm if this was kept in.
Wow.... The she said 'thank you'. Amazing...
THANK GOD THEY DELETED IT!
The deletion of this scene points out how important editing is to a movie. Editing can make or break a movie.
Very surprised to see the hidden face of Miranda !!! Finally this business woman is a kind of iron fist in a velvet glove 👌🏻
I'm glad they cut this scene. Miranda would never ever do that.
I love that this exists and I LOVE that it was not in the movie.
Good thing they took this out. It's an over the top cringy scene. Andy shouldn't have looked to Miranda for validation and completely ignore the man she was suppose to save from complete humiliation just to ignore him even for a second during the conversation..
Thank you?????
I got chills omg
It not only showed the softer side of Miranda but Emily and that shouldn't have been revealed until the end.
WHAT omfg did hell just freeze over did she actually thank here
This scene makes us look at Miranda in a different way. I’m assuming she’s mean because she’s in a toxic marriage and just takes it out on everyone.
This is actually closer to their book characters.
It's the best thing of the whole movie
The great Miranda saying thank you 😇
I would like to see a shorter version of this scene in the movie. The movie shows how everyone has to deal with Miranda, but this scene shows a glimpse of what Miranda has to deal with. I would jus have left out the part where she mouths "thanks" to Andy because it would change the entire dynamics of their relationship for the rest of the story.
This made more sense at to why she chose Andy and not Emily for Paris. They should have kept it.
Can explain this scene? Why did andy have to separate the other guy to miranda??
The guy was Miranda's husband. He was drunk and making a scene. Andy dissolved the situation. It most likely explains why Miranda chose Andy over Emily to go to Paris. But we (most people in the comments and I) think it was deleted because it made Miranda seem too human. Her mouthing "thank you" is rather out of character, and I think seeing her with messy husband might cause you to sympathize with her too quickly.
Thank you for not putting this on the movie
