Excellent Rick, you perfectly hit on my current "rough spot" of the moment...position shifting. I've slowly started to realize that rather than trying to improve my stretch, shifting position quickly and accurately is many times a much better choice! Lovely job of highlighting that, thank you!
Its soo important to recognize any tension in your body, if your shoulder tense up and ease, anything, and find the speed that your touch is feels so relaxed. I find constantly referring to that slower pace to remind myself of that feeling and then jump ahead and focus on maintaining that when playing at challenging speeds. I have found that it is vital to really memorize whatever you are learning as fast possible and get it up to speed as quickly as possible, yeah there will be mistakes, but sometimes you need to know what it feels like to play the piece at the tempo, you can only play as fast as you can think. But constantly referring to that super relaxed touch and hand prepositioning etc is vital or you’ll never get it up to speed.
thank you MR. GRAHAM for sharing your great knowledge, you make all us aspiring guitar players better, i appreciate your kindness and grace, just a class act!!!
May I request (if you haven't already done so): 1) A video regarding economy of motion for speed and lack of tension in the fretting hand 2) A video about how to play cleaner I've been playing for over 15 years and always thought but feel like I'd hit a wall. I admit I need to practise seriously instead of just riffing, which I'm willing to do to play cleaner (i.e. stop notes from ringing out) and learn to shred as I always wanted to. Any advice would be amazing to help me break bad habits :)
Hi Rick, in your opinion which are the differences between playing standing up and playing seated? Would you be able to play these kind of stretches standing up? I notice that when I'm seated I'm more comfortable with left hand stretches
Hi Rick! Thank you for all these exercises and lessons. I've been following you for years now. Do you happen to have some nice exercises about triplets and septolets? Cause I'm really struggling with these kind of rythm patterns... Would be really useful!
Hey RIck thanks for the tips! Will try and incorporate them into my playing, even though my playing feels like one continous 10 year rut haha. Much love from across the mersey!
@@soolikagsdi Bro do you even overhand technique?!?! (disclaimer I have no idea if this is an actual thing, I seriously doubt it because just looking at my acoustic hanging on the wall that seems really awkward and pointless)
Rick Graham. Hi Rick, I have problem for many months with guitar I feel like I'm sitting in the same place and can't progress. The problem is that everyone is saying that to proper picking is to hold pick to that it's just stick a little bit out of your fingers, especially for quick playing. But I have problem with 2 last strings on the bottom, sometimes while hitting the string I touch the string with my thumb finger and the string just totally mute giving 0 sound (rarely harmonic). I tried to stick pick a little more with my finger but even then it just happens. Does it really takes that much time or I'm doing something wrong? Maybe it could be the case for you to make video about it, because you had the same problems for example.
Warframe Crunch everyone picks different. I've never had a problem with accidental pinch harmonics. You might be chocking up on the pick a little to much. Maybe to much gain? Back the gain off and use a stronger attack. Try using a better picking position where you pick between the harmonic areas. If you learn where all the harmonics you can avoid harmonics as well as use them when necessary. I guess the best thing to do is, not let your thumb touch the string when you are picking cleanly... I hope this helps
Nothing can break my rut. I have been learning for 2 in a half years and I really feel its been a waste of time. Im not giving up yet but i dont feel ill ever be any good. Stuff I have been trying to learn since I first started i still cant play right. My fingers just wont do what i need them to do.
I reckon it's time for you to find new genres to learn. I played blues for two years exclusively and felt the same. Then I tried jazz. Then I tried everything else. Now I'm on to metal lol.
You have great speed and pleasant sound production, so you better play different pieces instead of telling us different shit, play all 24 caprices for example, play Moszkowski etudes
These guys giving lessons are great, but why they have arena overdrive and distortion during a lesson is a mystery. The sound is annoying with the monotonous scales.
If we were to take a vote, you'd probably find yourself in the minority on this one. My ear craves distorted guitar tones. Especially with reverb. Plain clean dry guitar sounds are BORING!
Love you and your style but have to say this is not a very helpful lesson at all buddy to break out of a rut.. Sorry but this is not a good pattern to work on at all for me and many others I'm sure . Most of your stuff is very helpful though and inspiring. Thanks for all your lessons!
This channel is highly underrated!!! I love morning coffee 🌞☕ or tea with my friend Rick Graham! ☕

More thanks

Loving the videos, Rick! Keep ‘em coming. 💪🏼💪🏼
Thanks Rick!!
At 8:11 you can see Rick is human.
I can’t admit it was an edition mistake.
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
If you only got 22 frets...
Desperately looks at his Fender Mexico Strat (21 frets for whatever reason 🤷🏻♂️)
tfw you only have an acoustic guitar and it's not a cutaway so you get like 14 frets
@@soolikagsdi Bro do you even overhand technique?!?! (disclaimer I have no idea if this is an actual thing, I seriously doubt it because just looking at my acoustic hanging on the wall that seems really awkward and pointless)
Thanks Rick great stuff as usual
anyway who the f would give a thumbs down to any Rick Graham video LOL

Rick "snake oil" Graham would make for an excellent painting. ;)
Thanks for posting! Appreciate ya!
I'm in a rut just thinking about these patterns
I'm just ruttin'
Nice, those exercises sound like Bagpipes,👍👍
The fun starts at 2:20
It sounds like bagpipes. Is this a new pedal?
If I want to bust a rut I usually just play some fast scales up and down the neck for around 10-15 mins and that always seems to work for me.
Most of your licks are very difficult to learn, but this complicates things even more XD Thank you anyway :)
Close encounters of the riffing kind !!
ex number 2 sound lick youre playing uilleann pipes
When someone says i beg your pardon, you know they're good
Sub titulos
I would buy snake oil from you
sounds like Bagpipes
how good are you
Thank God. At first I thought it was "Butt Rusting" exercises😂
🤙😎🤘

The second example, the second part sounds like a piece by Bach... I can't remember the name.
🤘💥
My man...
thanks rick, HOW’D YOU KNOW? 😡
After two hours doing this my wife left me
After 8 hours mine is still here, what am I doing wrong?
Can you call the notes out please if you know them of course " no offense , Sir. Great job 👍👌 thanks for sharing Sir.🙏
HAMMER TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Having neuropathy helps, some days you can't form chords properly and have to figure out new ways to dance on the strings
I busted a rut to this
Woah.. I wana like but it's on 777. Just notice the +1 here. Haha
Sounds like bagpipes
Just sell me your fingers!
With small hands & short fingers is almost impossible doing your exercise
You always use to stretch a lot on every single string 🙄
His hands are small and pudgy.
Short fingers too. He makes do.
Shawn Lane could pull off big stretches 🤷♂️
Can you please take out the fuzz 🤗
But.... you do have snake oil right?
