Sommet absolu de l’art polyphonique, les motets de Bach exultent d’une allégresse qui pourrait surprendre lorsqu’on connait leur destination liturgique la plus fréquente : des services funèbres. À l’invitation du Motet BWV 225, Raphaël Pichon et son équipe nous entraînent dans cette interprétation jubilatoire, véritable hymne à la danse habilement mis en regard de la grande tradition du motet allemand. Le travail collectif effectué par Pygmalion tant sur le plan du style que celui du texte, rend pleinement justice à cette exubérance chorale.
The absolute summit of polyphonic art, Bach’s motets exult with a joy that may be found surprising when one knows their most frequent liturgical use: at funeral ceremonies. Taking up the invitation of the Motet BWV 225, Raphaël Pichon and his musicians draw us into their jubilant interpretation, a true hymn to the dance skilfully juxtaposed with the great tradition of the German motet. The collective work undertaken by Pygmalion on both the stylistic and the textual aspects does full justice to this choral exuberance.

J'aime beaucoup bach j'ai travaillé le concerto pour 2 violons, il est très veau aussi j'ai l'intégrale que mon mari m'avait offert, mes compositeurs sont motard et bach, c'est desestressant !!! Bravo pour les interprètes, c'est superbe ,

What exuberance.
I've heard this by a number of very good choirs ... but this is incomparable. Pichon's understanding of Bach's underlying intentions is extraordinary. The singing is breathtakingly excellent and the achievement magnificent.
I believe this is how Bach intended us to receive this piece. This is what happens when talent, power, melody, and perfection come together at this scale. Really amazing. Congratulations to all involved here. 💕

The tempo in the middle section is good.
The interpretation of the opening counterpoint positively dances with spirit! The slow chorale section flows like water. And, the Alleluia is pure joy! Thanks you for sharing this.

Pour moi la meilleure version, on distingue bien les 4 parties des voix ainsi que le détail des instruments. Le tempo aussi est intéressant.

An amazing feat of pyrotechnic vocal ability. However, would it sound less frenzied if it were just a tick slower? I think so.

This is so beautiful, but when my choir tried this in college it was legitimately a disaster. The choir teacher had to have known, but still allowed us to embarrass ourselves during the concert with this piece. We were NOT ready. I wish I could post it for you guys to laugh at, but not sure how I’d get the file attached. 😅
Is this a college choir? This could be an auditioned choir. It could be a group where most of them read music and are experienced singers. I can't imagine an inexperienced group signing this with only 10 rehearsals.
@@c3piano I would guess it is an auditioned choir, but I’m not sure. They are amazing, though!!!
@@c3piano I believe all members of Ensemble Pygmalion are fully trained, carefully selected and experienced musicians, whether singers or instrumentalists. I would expect their membership varies (for the most part) but is drawn from professional choruses (i.e. in opera houses), universities and conservatoires etc. Like some other commentators here, I think their quality is quite extraordinary but their conductor, Raphael Pichon, himself a professional singer initially (a countertenor), absolutely exudes musicianship and sheer charisma. No doubt he's a very exacting conductor but doubtless a delight to work for, producing astonishing results.

But too speed in my opinion (first part and Alleluia).
I totally agree. It's more elegant at a slower tempo. I think the speed is to slow off their ability. Who knows what tempo Bach directed it.
I disagree. This performance treats each part of the motet as part of an integral whole ... their speed is completely consistent with the overall pulse and rhythm and is exhilirating and enthralling. It may strike some people as unusual but that's possibly because very few singers have the extraordinary talent and technical prowess to sing like this convincingly; even fewer the compelling charisma and artistry of Raphael Pichon!
Great energy, but it becomes frantic.. it sounds like the need to get to the end quickly so they don't mis a flight.... all good, but it would be good to rethink the tempi
Filologicamente insostenibile. Sembra una corsa a chi arriva prima, senza nulla togliere alla bravura degli esecutori.
La prassi esecutiva è un'altra cosa.

A bit 'rushed' indeed'. But, perhaps we ought to respect the approach of young people. Better still, than eventually losing an 'audience' for classical music altogether.
C'est très bien chanté mais Pichon exulte à faire courir ses choeurs, un peu comme un "jeune" sans permis s'amuse à faire des "runs" avec sa nouvelle "Benz". On ne sait jamais trop s'il l'a acheté ou volé, tout ce dont on peut être certain pour l'un comme pour l'autre c'est que tout cela finira fatalement autour d'un platane...
Je ne crois vraiment pas que R. Pichon "finira" dans un platane. Sa direction est élégante, jeune et profonde tout à la fois. Pour moi, Il est merveilleux, et son choeur aussi. On a si souvent fait de la musique de Bach un pensum lourd, sans joie, de la "musique d'église", alors qu'elle est joyeuse, et pleine de malice parfois...R. Pichon nous rend cela dans sa jubilation !
@@emmeff6643 On avait raison de faire de la musique de Bach un "pensum" lourd. C'est en tous cas ainsi qu'il l'a écrite. Il n'a nul besoin qu'on le rende gai ou primesautier, car il l'est d'origine. Lui "donner un coup de jeune" équivaut à travestir son architecture, qui se venge d'elle-même en s'écroulant sitôt qu'un jeune loup s'avise à accélérer le tempo. Personne n'a réussi à le précipiter sans se ridiculiser (à part peut-être Glenn Gould qui, soit dit en passant à triché en enregistrement pour arriver à ses fins). Bach laisse libre court à l'intelligence des interprètes pour trouver la bonne vitesse d'exécution qui est une et une seule possible car immanquablement en fin de partition il assène des doubles ou triples croches qui rendent impossible la lisibilité pour les téméraires ou les écervelés qui l'auraient commencé trop rapidement. Si les anciens artistes sonnaient lourds et pesants, c'est qu'ils avaient la science et la finesse de savoir cela. Pour finir j'admire R. Pichon quand il ne se prend pas pour un TGV, car il a effectivement une grande sensibilité, une intelligence innée, et un courage infini pour entreprendre de grandes oeuvres (et parce qu'il est marié à la plus grande soprano de tous les temps).
Il faut être bien méchant pour écrire des commentaires de cet ordre...
Rien d'extraordinaire dans les temps choisis, ou alors la plupart des interprètes baroques actuels sont des inconscients ou des ignares...
@@MrBouguenec Il y a un peu de cela oui. Vous avez mis le doigt dessus. Ils sont surtout gagnés par cette soif de briller et de se distinguer à tous prix de leurs alter-ego. Alors ils y vont à la vitesse d'un TGV pensant gagner le coeur du public. La musique n'a rien à y gagner, et leurs sottes cavalcades font penser, qu'effectivement, pour la plupart, ils n'y entendent pas grand-chose à cette musique et que c'est plutôt un "boulot pépère pour gagner sa croûte". Monsieur Pichon n'étant pas le moins mauvais de tous qui vient de sortir un CD à écouter absolument, "la passion selon St Mathieu de Bach" qui est plus que réussi par le simple fait qu'il n'a pas du tout accéléré le mouvement et a pris le temps de bien faire. Ni plus, ni moins. Alors, je suis quelqu'un de très méchant si cela vous amuse, mais que voulez-vous, contrairement à vous c'est la musique des compositeurs qui m'importe et je me fiche pas mal des interprètes actuels. Les mettre en pièce ou les acclamer n'est pas chose importante.
Je ne sais ce qu'il y a de plus triste, de votre incapacité à éprouver la joie que j'éprouve devant cette merveille, ou du mariage malheureux entre votre mesquinerie et votre orgueil.
C est ni dynamique ni rythmique juste agité et très anxiogène. Le texte raconte le contraire de ce que l on entend. Épuisant.
Je suis d'accord. Il y a un manque de souplesse générale. C'est un Gloria . Cela doit être entrainant. Chez Bach l'harmonie et le contre-point sont des outils pas une fin en soi.
