Thank you for a nice shout-out, but especially because you decided to continue exploring Nightwish music.
The multi-instrumentalist Troy Donockley was already established (together with the band Iona as well as many other collaborations) when he started collaborating with Nightwish, back in 2007. In 2013, after the concert in Wacken, he and Floor Jansen were invited as permanent members of the band .

Great performance, I have seen it before and guessed that you would enjoy it. Emppu the guitarist is a natural comedian, he’s always up to something!
You can’t fault musicians like this can you? You also can’t fault their audience, they always show their appreciation of whatever the band does which fuels the performance to be what it is - magical!
Enjoyed your reaction and breakdown, looking forward to the next one 🌹

Lovely reaction and analysis. This was only recorded as an instrumental. Tuomas did originally write lyrics, but was never satisfied with them, so it became an instrumental before recording it. For next Nightwish, might I suggest Elvenjig/Elvenpath. Enjoy!

Dear Claire. Thougts from a humble scout in Nightwish Army eastern swedish group. Tuoamas the keabord player is called "Metal Mozart" and the deeper you go in your rabbit hole you will find out why. Every word, every note, has a meaning... They never sing "I love you" but most of their songs is about love or lost love... in one way or an other. Welcome.

Every instrument has a unique voice, and in my opinion, classical instruments are used far too rarely in modern music.

When Nightwish uses the full orchestra for their backing tracks, you will hear flutes and harps as well as all the other brass, woodwinds, percussion, and strings, although some is played by Tuomas, who apparently likes to play strings on the keyboards. I have always liked The Moody Blues, who often featured the flute in their music. Absolutely beautiful.
I also suggest checking out Tuomas' orchestral creation: All the Works of Nature that Adorn the World, with the video created for it. It is played by the full orchestra with a lot of Harp in the mix. Floor vocals and choirs as well as a movement featuring Troy's pipes. It is a gorgeous 30 minutes of pure music.

I've always loved the instrumentals Tuomas write. Their first album had a 4 part song "Lappi" which has lyrics in two parts and is mostly instrumental with different instruments for each part. A bit more recently their latest album Human :|: Nature has a second disc that is all instrumental for half an hour "All the Works of Nature Which Adorn the World".
Not suggesting to make a video of those but definitely something to listen to.

@Claire Holdich: Given you are a flutist, I have a band recommendation for you: The Indian folk metal band Bloodywood!
Hailing from New Delhi, India, Bloodywood is a fusion of Nu-Metal like Linkin Park, electronica, and traditional Indian instruments, like the dhol drum.
I highly recommend reacting to two songs:
    1) Jee Veerey (Hindi for "Brave One")
    2) Aaj (Hindi for "Today")
A couple of things to know about the band:
    1) Bloodywood is 100% independent, having no record label
    2) Bloodywood is very social-minded, and every track has a righteous message
    3) Karan, one of the founding members, plays a whistle/flute, along with lead guitar. Meanwhile, the lady he is dating is Archy, the "Snake Charmer," who plays Scottish bagpipes, and sings. She has put out several videos of her own, my favorite being an Indian fusion of traditional Indian instruments and traditional Indian dancing, with a Celtic flair, in a rendition of the song Toss the Feathers.
    4) Bloodywood sings in Hindi and in English, and usually has subtitles in both Hindi and in English on their videos
Should you decide to check out Bloodywood, I guarantee you won't be disappointed in the least.

Being first time as a headliner in this kind of a "Metal" festival as Wacken Open Air and boldly throw an instrumental, which is quite 'folky' on the setlist rather than any other heavier track to please the metalheads in the audience.

    This is just an instrumental.
If you like this, spend 3 or 4 minutes listening to the intro to Buenos Aires 2018, Swanheart, which is solo Troy on pipes. Short and segues into End of All Hope but it's just beautiful. I promise you'll love it.
    Troy is a magician.
And on that subject, literally a magician.
    Info:
    Troy plays:
Uilleann pipes, tin whistle, vocals, guitar, keyboards, bass guitar, pump organ, bouzouki, cittern, bodhrán,
    mandola, harmonium, aerophone
Troy on the pipes (in documentary "please learn the setlist in 48 hours"):
"You have to be slightly insane to play them. They're not easy."
TONI: Troy, the other new member, didn't have to jump in as dramatically [as Floor], but he has become an irreplaceable part of this group, too. If there's tension in the air for some reason, Troy casts a spell and magically dispels the bad vibes.
EWO: Troy radiates the kind of cheerfulness that we sulky northerners can only dream of, but I guess some of his positive attitude has rubbed off on us, too.
    TUOMAS on touring with Troy:
We start preparing about 30 minutes before the show [New York Hammerstein 2915], each of us in his or her own way. Floor changes on her stage clothes and warms up her voice in her dressing room, while we`re warming our fingers in ours. Back in the day, I used to get scared stiff before the show - it was just nauseating, pure horror. It all changed when Troy did some kind of a hypnotic trick to me in Los Angeles in 2012. I really don't know what happened during those twenty minutes, but afterwards, I haven't really panicked before going on slage,

We were hanging out with my son and his uni mates in the poolroom of Glasgow YHA, playing music over the speaker, and one of his friends resignedly commented that nobody ever chose metal. She didn't feel she could go against the grain. So I put this one on as "stealth metal", then once people seemed unphased, moved on to a bunch of other songs from Dark Passion Play. That went fine, so I slipped in a bit of Judas Priest, but I think that was a step too far...
