I've spent the past 20+ years performing the same type of repairs as you so I know the amount of experience (plus equipment & tools) it takes to inspect, troubleshoot and repair. Your skills are top notch! Keep up the excellent work.
man I just discovered your channel like a week or so ago, I have been binge watching your videos. So so good. I was really into electronics when I was younger, like building all types of stuff with 555 timers, jk flip flops, shift registers, caps, etc.. You have lit that fire in me to get back into it. Thank you.
Happy to see the surgery with naked eye.Looks like a surgeon doing complicated tissue reconditioning , especially with the grinding tools. Thanks for the video Alex. Good luck. After watching your, video .I upgraded my work bench with few other economical tools ,setup etc
Outstanding work as always, I love your work. You inspire me to do micro soldering, because I'm a learning technician in Jamaica, quite young to the work and your videos have taught me a lot. Thanks for being such a open and fair guy, most technicians don't share the methods of the work, especially in such detail. Keep being the great person that you are and may God bless you.
Very very nice fix Alex, so not always when the keyboard keys are not working the cause can be found in a broken keyboard... just amazing... thanks a lot for this lesson ;)
Hi Alex, most EC programmers who work through the keyboard port have the feature to test keyboards. You can see if a key is working or not, stuck or not. But for about 30$ you can also find keyboard testers.
@@kdilac8879 No. Keyboards are "analog" (two circuits are switched together on the keyboard matrix when a key is pressed), which the testers can measure. Touchpads have their own controllers and firmware, so this cannot be easy standardised.
As an electronic technician, the wire alignment in minute 7:30 blew my mind. I thought I was watching PORN!!!. Great work! Keep it up, greetings from Argentina!
I looked online for many hours trying to find a fix on my personal laptop after multiple keys stopped working, and im sure there are tons of people out there with this same problem that couldnt find any answers. Never would have thought it was a motherboard problem. Cant wait to take mine apart and see if there are any broken traces. Thanks for the video!
Could be a motherboard problem but it's very hard to find people who knows what they are doing. Mostly repair shops usually just make the present situation worse. BTW good luck with your laptop hope it gets fixed
BEAUTIFUL job! Congrats! I have a 17r5 and it’s crazy how similar that m17 hoard looks to mine lol I had to replace a USB-C and USB 3.0 port on the board, so disassemble it myself.
Common issue when you keep your laptop on your lap or inside a backpack in the summer. Sweat and moisture finds it's way into the board. I had several issues with my daily driver laptop unti the keyboard was completely gone and that was the end of it. The keyboard is welded to the case so into the bin it went.
Looking at the board and how th alcohol left a visible trace on the board, I bet it was some softdrink or juice on the board that corroded the board, or sweat from a person holding it on their lap for extended periods. Nice fix!
Yes, it happened to me also once for a TV remote. Around 2-3 test pads were totally gone, due to which none of buttons on remote was working. After connecting those, it started working. I thought it could be due to sweat (salty moisture) from hands went inside remote. Not sure how it can happen to a laptop though.
A true gamer takes his lap top everywhere he can to keep up his skills. Even the toilet. Bathrooms dripping with condensation and "flush splatter". Even a "bomb plop" could splash up and cause a moisture hit. Such is the harried life of a gamer.
Nice video. I wonder why there is corrosion on that part of the board only. Maybe its liquid gets in there, some caps and resistors look a bit corroded too. Do you also clean the whole board for the customer after the repair? Thank you for the video
I would have an acer laptop within some days with the same type of problem - wonder it will be faulty keyboard or coroded traces...be in touch, thx for the method! Insane!
I can only guess, but it appears those traces were probably made too thin, the coating peeled off, then the traces oxidized to nothing. Slight defect in manufacturing. Honestly I'd of guessed the keyboard wasn't any good before i thought it had this problem... you made the right call.
wow even after watching 50+ videos of yours I get to see something new :D I think my laptop keyboard might have the same problem but I already switched to a wireless keyboard so it's not a big deal.
Nice fix Alex. Did you have coffee or turn up the play speed? I had to check my settings at the beginning you were talking so fast! Lol! Just playing... Love your content, long may you continue bringing us your knowledge!
interesting, i have the g7 which has the same issue. I've shelved t because replacing the keyboard didn't sort anything. maybe I'll pull it out and see if there is corrosion..
No one says Apple Beats by Dre or Audi Lamborghini. ;D What's with the selective branding disclosure? Love the way you fixed it. 👌 Your new grinder and pads are really proving their value!
There was a time when Alienware was its' own company, so it's pretty common to call them Dell Alienware in the tech industry, as they were actually great before Dell bought them out.
Do you have a guide to soldering such small componentry as delicately like that? I can solder wires etc but I wouldn’t know how to make the next step to things as small as this
Do you want to hear something funny? I am watching your videos on my phone, and at the minute 4:14 when you finished to grind the surface, i was blowing the screen on my phone to remove dust from grinding, that's how concentrate i was at what you where doing 🤣🤣🤣. Your videos are to captivating man... 😅
Alex, I hope you read my comment. I'm wondering, what you do in cases like that, when the part you ordered is not necessary for repair. Do you keep it in stock, as it might come handy in the future, or do you send it back? I'm wondering what's more sensible from a business standpoint - having that bit of cash "frozen" until somebody comes with compatible laptop and issue or sending it back so you get cash back (minus shipping probably). Keep on good work! 👍
Probably the corrosion was caused by condensed water which happens when you turn on a very cold laptop in a warm and damp room without waiting some time. A failure of multiple keys is often caused by an issue with only one signal line because the keys are connected in a matrix.
One time i tried to fix my Logitech keyboard which also had corroded traces, but the "pcb" was plastic, copper traces on transparent plastic. I immediately applauded Logitech.

You make that tiny soldering job look easy, a pro for sure. Great video!
It's a great piece of work. So precious and perfect like you do all the time. This fix should get an Oscar. Wow. . All the best. .
Your videos encouraged me to take apart my laptop and work on its motherboard. It was a good experience even though it was not a fix due to dead CPU.

Spectacular work. I am always happy when you show new things and ways to repair a faulty product.
Awesome Alex, those tracers were so tiny, I couldn't have guess it was that, keep up the great work.
Amazing repair keep up the great work!
Thank you for posting your equipement... totally going to start this as i have a llc dedicated to computer repair.
Nice find as normal. Good use of left over strips.
Your work is satisfying 😊
it is so nice to see you reaching the ultimate rapair level.
the power of the visual inspection. This would have really vapor-locked my brain.
Watching your videos is an addiction !!!
I have the same one, just wondering how those lines were corroded. Nice video 👍👍👍. This is one of the best RUclips channels.
Probably its caused by condensed water when you turn on a very cold laptop in a warm room with high humidity..

Could be the same sweaty moisture seeping through the keyboard, it is a gaming laptop
if you use a gaming laptop at your legs, you will sweat there and the coolingfan of the laptop sucks in the moisture , the rest you know.

The fact you found that so quickly is amazing haha. Fantastic fault finding Alex and the soldering job was even cleaner! Great fix.
thanks as always for teaching us :)
This was very interesting. Haven't seen that before. Thanks for the video.
Perfect job congratullations!! hi from Uruguay
I'm learning alot from your videos
Probably should have masked the other part you scratched. Seems to be a problem area for corrosion.
it's very exciting that we don't know whether it's working or not until the end of the video. tanks :)

I have never seen a track corroded like that before. The only damaged tracks I have seen have been caused by over current melting them.
