- Description:
Hey everyone, Spencer here. Today, we're diving deep into the Plaud Note, a device I backed on IndieGoGo in 2023 and have been using since December of the same year. Despite its potential, I've encountered several issues that I believe you should know about before considering it as your go-to digital note-taking tool. Let's break down the three main problems I've faced with the Plaud Note.
Product Details:
Brand Name: Plaud
Product Title: Plaud Note
More Information: Visit Plaud
1. Audio Recording Quality:
The Plaud Note's audio recording doesn't outperform my iPhone. Using just the Voice Memo app on my iPhone, I get similar, if not better, quality. The Plaud Note might have its advantages in larger spaces or specific scenarios, but for everyday use, it doesn't stand out.
2. AI Features and Ecosystem Limitations:
The Tool I Use To Transcribe: goodsnooze.gumroad.com/l/macw...
While I appreciate the idea of AI-driven note summarization, the execution falls short. The device restricts you to its ecosystem, only allowing uploads of audio recorded on the Plaud itself. This limitation complicates workflows, especially since I've efficiently used free tools like Whisper and ChatGPT for years to transcribe and analyze my voice journals.
3. Price, Convenience, and Proprietary Concerns:
The Plaud Note is not cheap, and its requirement for a proprietary charging cable adds to the inconvenience. When considering its overall utility and the hassle of carrying another device, it's hard to justify the cost and the effort.
Final Thoughts:
For my needs, the combination of iPhone voice notes, a transcribing tool like Mac's Whisper, and ChatGPT provides all the functionality of the Plaud Note without the cost or inconvenience. However, your mileage may vary, and there might be scenarios where the Plaud Note fits perfectly.
Disclaimer: These are my personal experiences and thoughts. I encourage you to share yours in the comments or explore the Plaud Note further if it interests you.

I like when you say you have to lug it around
Thank you for doing this review! I hadn’t heard of whisper but I’m going to look into it now!
I like the mind map feature with PLAUD. Do you know of any free apps that convert text summaries into mind maps that I can use?
I think your missing of key points, this is primarily for recording phone calls (which as you said aren’t super easy to record on the phone. Also I think that you can add audio to the app to transcript, and you can add it on the website without an app or device. Lastly you can save money by manually doing the same steps and individually those steps are not that laborious so it doesn’t seem be worth paying but if you need transcription of recordings often then those extra steps start to add and the money saved isn’t worth the time wasted.
@darrenjobe9781 The main job of PLAUD is not just to primarily for recording phone calls. You are supposed to also record what you are saying and record auditory lectures and it then transcribes into text afterwards.
thanks, really helpful review
Glad it was helpful!
Spencer, thank you for this. Could you please let me know how to use Whisper? Is it a software, app, etc?
Are you able to show us how you use whisper to dictate voice recordings?
@plaud this is the type of RUclipsr that gets people to buy your product. Because of his haterade, I bought one and enjoy it.
Thank you Spencer. I think you just saved me from a longer route to ultimate frustration. These bullshit hidden costs should be outlawed.
Can the device use my Bluetooth headset for audio capture? Is the recording happening on my phone? Thanks for the video! 😎👍
Nope. Plaud can not connect to any headset or other Mics. Your phone can but Plaud can not.
any suggestions for recording phone calls?
Did you run into any issues with context length? (Like a meeting was too long to be summarized by Chat GPT)
That’s like reviewing McDonald’s and saying you can make a hamburger at home and you can get a hamburger there but it’s a split system. You can’t make a hamburger there and they can’t make a hamburger at your house.
It’s a machine that takes away all the steps that you say you can do without it a little redundant even redundant I don’t even know how to classify it as a review or what your standards are for reviewing or what the hell that even means I haven’t even made the end of the video what I comparison that means nothing literally nothing in fact it’s ignorant That like saying yeah there’s a car can get you to your neighbors house but so can a horse and buggy but horse and buggy won’t fit. I still use both. What does that have to do with anything? Do you think somebody can learn from that? Do you think that the fact that that takes away that step is the important thing and detail of this product and if they wouldn’t to do it you’re suggesting they would’ve been doing that or would be doing that anyway also secondary. They wouldn’t really need the review, or the knowledge if that’s what that’s supposed to be
I'm also the fellla who would never eat at McDonalds. The point is to show that you can have Mcdonald's style food without going there.
@@SpencerFieldyeah well you probably used a car and not a horse and buggy. You raised some valid points in the video but so does the op
Wow dude
You’re the kind of guy who can just go out in your yard and need some grass instead of going to Olive Garden and paying for a salad
My yard does have really good breadsticks now that you mention it.
How may language it support ?
Hum… good question. Since it don’t use it I don’t know.
It says 57 on their advertising!
Excellent review! I can’t stand all these things that want me to pay them through a subscription service every month, sucking the money out of my wallet.
Your hate made me buy one
Sure. We believe you Bro.
Plaud only works in it's own system. Kinda like Apple.
thanks. Liked
Thanks for the visit
This dude starts out with saying the audio quality is as good as his iPhone and he says that's a negative thing
PLEASE READ THIS!!! What is this “Whisper” app you speak of?
Wow, I hear so much irony in your review.
1) You are an Apple user and you are complaining about some other company trying to lock you in using their ecosystem?
2) $100 is not cheap but you own iPhone, iPad & Macbook?
3) Plaud Note has a proprietary charging cable... What about Apple products? Until recently, they have been insisting on selling expensive yet slower lightning cables. AND Plaud does give a Type C adapter so everyone can still use their Type C cables to charges the Plaud Note. Isn't that right?
You are in the Apple ecosystem and you are fine with it. But when another company does it, you have so much issues with it. Such biased thoughts! That makes you a reviewer that no one should depend on.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I find Mike experience to be consistent as I do not feel locked into an ecosystem as I use mostly web apps. Additionally, I have done a annual cost analysis on my devices and find that the per year cost of Apple devices is much cheaper for me in my case than the per year cost of my android windows devices. Additionally, nearly all of my Apple devices use USBC charging cables so Im not sure what your issue is here.
Regardless, feel free to purchase this if it makes sense for you. Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment as it helps the video rate higher.
Why don't you ask for a refund?
I did. And spent several weeks going back and forth with support if I "qualify" for one.
I disagree with all your thoughts and I guess these are based on your usage.
I'm glad to make space for other views.
It doesn't help if all you do is say you disagree with him. Why?
DO not buy
I agree.
Saying do not buy does not help. Why?
Thank you for making this video
No problem 😊
