- I head out to a familiar campsite to play ham radio. it was the RSGB field day so I took equipment to work VHF 2m.
I also try out my new outdoor cooking pot which my girls bought for me for father's day. The pot is called a Tagine and is my favourite way to cook outdoors by far. Ras el Hanout is the spice mix I used to cook the Lamb Chops in.

Great video, and I loved the Lamb!
I’m looking forward to your next video!

Good effort Carl, you sure pick the best days .
Better luck next time.
The intro hahaha
That wind sure gave those tent pegs a test. Good for you to even attempt that tenting in the wind. VE6KBI Dana
Carl, a great setup for field day seems a bit windy but when we operating on the radio you really hardly ever notice! Hihi. Your father's day gift really came in handy and I am sure that you will put it to very good use, and it sure looks delicious. And another enjoyable video, Carl, keep'em coming!
Love your videos.. Great effort.. Well done ...
I heard you making contacts, but I have to say I couldn't have tolerated all that tent flapping, so well done 😊
Fantastic efforts and work Carl. Great setup and the food looked great.

Great Video as always Carl. / that cooking pot and resulting lamb dish looked excellent !! Mark, 2E0MSR.
Carl, Thanks for taking the time to edit and share. A lovely mix of activities in a very relaxed style that's very enjoyable to watch - especially your menus! Perhaps one day I may get to work you. 73, Rob, M0JWU.
Its Always "Wine O Clock" Young Carl. Hic Burp 🤣
Nice video. I'm in Arizona, USA, where daily temps are around 107F, which is 41.7C. I'd love some clouds and a cool wind.
Fair play… nasty conditions for tenting… Nice pot too. 😊
Nice time it looked and the food. This popped up on home page. Thought to myself, last week or this Saturday. Thinking last week. Our lot did. Too complicated for me but did the RUclips video. A windy day but the cooking pot makes up for the rubbish weather, Dry at least and the tent stay up!. You got G3PIA/P. I got that cooker, for power cut use, warm tin grub up at home. I used to do camping. Lost patence 2009 in Kent when wet for a week, sold stuff. Toilet in sisters garage and mains hook up. Other bits, Tent sold.
Nice Park resorts/ John Fowler or similar now in a caravan. Static thing all in a row, you know the sort of thing. Cheap holidays and own bathroom!.
Field Day for me here in the US was beautiful weather. But the bands were horrible! I ended up visiting a local amateur radio club and helped them out with CW on 40 meters.
July 4th. weekend was horrible weather, rain all 4 days off and on. But made tons of contacts. Canada day contacts, 13 original colonies special event stations, plus lots of DX into Europe, Russia, and Mexico. Glad to see you got yourself a LIPO battery. Way lighter and longer lasting than the old lead acid, Right? I’d love to come and visit you on one of your outings. I’d always know I’d eat like a king😊 ‘73 for now, and will be waiting for your next great video
You could have used a horizontally polarised Halo antenna for working SSB, that sure looks a bit windy there. Looks good though, food is well prepared that's the main thing. 73 Matt🙂👍
Nice one Carl, you certainly had a good blow going on. I'm afraid to say I sounded better on your radio than vice versa...turn the wick up Carl ;-) !!! 73's M0XJA
Another fabulous video Carl. 73 M7BBH.
Thank you! 😊
All good Field Days have good food, sometimes poor weather, and are only semi-serious. :)
If I want to work both horizontal and vertical polarization I bracket the vertical at an angle and check the SWR to make sure it hasn't caused any problems. That angle changes the radiation pattern, sometimes for the better, sometimes for the worse. But it raises the likelihood of making contacts on both polarities. I learned the significance of polarization at a Field Day when I was operating on top of a mountain, (a mountain foothill about 2,000 feet above the Colorado eastern prairie,) high enough to see with binoculars the club's repeater site atop a water tower 25 miles to the east. I pointed the beam at the repeater, LOS, a horizontally mounted 9 element 2-meter beam atop a 30 foot mast. My rig was a modified Motorola SyntorX pushing 160+ Watts, but I simply couldn't key the repeater because of the polarization difference. I put an HT's rubber duck antenna vertically on the back of the rig sitting on a tabletop and hit the repeater full quieting. In fact, an HT with 2 W output worked the repeater from that spot just fine. From then on I was careful to take polarization into account, at least on VHF/UHF.
aha interesting idea!
I appreciate the effort you put into the hobby and your video editing. well done karl !! keep it coming!!
Always a Delight to watch your Vids Carl.looked pretty Bleak up there ..no Damage Sustain ed
Dont those cooky pot things have to be sealed around the lid with pastry dough or something ...it looked delish.did u scoff the lot?
the weight of the lid helps, this tagine also has a hole in the lid to let some pressure out, my other Tagines don't. If I'm cooking byriani rice in a bit pot I will use tin foil to seal up the pot.
Oh boy....wind!
Before or after the cooking ?
inside as well as outside the tent
Very windy out the Carl. Great video and food. How do you like the IC9700?
Beautiful radio, was tempted to get the IC7300 but got a small linear for the IC705 instead.
