Great discussion about art from around 36.00 minutes. Commentary on Dewey and then on Whitehead's aesthetics - 'complexity and intensity in harmony.' God as the tragic poet of the world. Wonderful stuff. Thank you!
I came across Mathew about 5yrs ago, when he, as a lefty progressive found himself an admirer of JBPs’ work (much to the chagrin of his fellow progressives). I’ve followed him since, and have enjoyed his outdoor talks and ponderings. It was great to see you have a conversation with him Karen. Really enjoyed this. Thank you!
Matt and Karen, excellent talk. About: 13:02 “To Save the Phenomena: An Essay on the Idea of Physical Theory from Plato to Galileo” by Pierre Duhem, a must read for anyone interested in the history of physics going back to the early Greeks. About: 14:50, Ptolemy’s “Almagest” was first published in the second century A.D. Written out in modern book format it extends close to 500 pages. It was a compendium of charts, lookup tables, calculation methods, and an extensive textbook of mathematical methods. Copernicus’s intent was to create a comprehensive mathematical system for the heliocentric model equivalent to what Ptolemy had done. In this regard, Copernicus failed. Although historically Galileo is always portrayed as the champion for Copernican thinking, it was Kepler (Galileo’s contemporary) who formally completed Copernicus’s project. About: 16:40, It was this insistence on Galileo’s part that got him in trouble with his peers within Catholic Church, not his advocacy of the heliocentric model per se.

Karen you beat me to it. I was intending to set up a conversation with Matthew and Michael Martin but I wanted to finish his book Physics of The World Soul which I bought a while back but haven't got to yet. I will listen to this today, I am sure it will be fantastic.
This conversation is brilliant! It chimes continually with Dr McGilchrist’s great tones and Dante’s Commedia , a contemporary of Meister Evkhart. I have listened to it 5 times already. I also love the quality of the conversation. There is always such a lovely flow to this podcast. Kind of musical.
Thank you so so much. It is comments like this that makes me feel as though there is a purpose in continuing the channel. You have inspired me for the day.
My sixth listen and I saw that tones was meant to be tomes or perhaps not and Meister Eckhart is the correct spelling. Caravaggio’s masterpiece, The Seven Works of Mercy, paints much of this conversation. I wonder how movement relates to consciousness. Consciousness is limitation and so rather left hemisphere. We are our unconscious, I suspect. The conscious self doesn’t exist.
The mirror that has been described in various places actually solves the riddle about when stopping arrives, and this is hinted in bilateral symmetry. The mirror that you have is two-sided, rather than one-sided. The agent that progresses forward sees it's reflection in relative terms, and hence the agent progresses forward on the design. But when the agent finds the two-sided mirror (which is defined by a bilateral symmetry) that progression ends because the agent cannot tell on which side the agent is on (are we the right side or the left side of our face?)! Cheers!
@@TheMeaningCode I do have a paper out that describes the two-sided mirror: Smith, S.P., 2021, Two-sidedness, relativity and CPT symmetry, Prespacetime Journal, 12 (3), 245-252.

Since that which is not, is not; That which is, is - All-inclusive/Absolute, therefore, the one Absolute Being in which all relative beings live, move and have their Being. Love is the recognition of our shared Being.
The conscious self does NOT exist. Blessed are those who live in the real world of context, imagination, science and reason. The left hemisphere of the conscious self is only a tool, not reality. Blessed are the unconscious who practise works iof mercy. It is only through being totally broken without refuge in the tool of the left hemisphere that we can see context. If the tooled world of the left, (funny in a political sense) is where the vain imagination seeks life, all is lost. The strange thing is that it is the acts from potential, Dante’s actuality, that can spring only from the right hemisphere of imagination and intuition, the place of vision. This is Dr Peterson’s point. I think he is constantly saying that the conscious self doesn’t exist, yet he can’t figure out the mercy piece. I sent him an icon of the Madonna della Misericordia back iin the day and he replied that it was perfect and that he put it in his files, yet I don’t think he understood somehow. I was so overwhelmed by the hero worship of him in early 2017 that I couldn’t articulate my vision when talking with him,. I am working on the garden, where inspiration appears, so please excuse typos.
I think the idea of God being unconscious and then becoming conscious in the activity of creation, or reality, might be better understood from a Tibetan Buddhist perspective. Nirvana is shunyata, 'emptiness,' no-thingness,' which could be awareness (wisdom, not-knowing; Verdanta, ending of knowledge), while consciousness is the content of the known world, universe, or psyche? This way, God, the Absolute, is simply the Awakened, or Enlightened One, Platonic One/Good, or Buddha/Christ as the risen Self.

Whitehead's response to "What is man that Thou art mindful of him?" @57:05
Thank you for this conversation. I am reading the Schelling book - fascinating. How the ideas were knit with social relations.
Love Matt! And Karen! Provocative. Thorough. Thanks. 🙂😄💭
Thank you for this rich conversation.

The importance of limitation for consciousness explains the Beatitudes. Wow!
Could you say more about this?

There are no obstacles, only choices to not see.
Our false selves are competitive; however, the practice of mercy creates our divine nature. Right-brain contextual mercy.
Is the Principle of Unrest movement?
I think we confuse transcendence with sex, sugar and shopping: feeeeling gooood instead of feeling with our 5 senses through experience.
Not a sacrifice. It is mercy: McGilchrist’s context.
