I’ve pretty much watched everyone of your videos. Your abstract , loose and messy portraits are intriguing . Your style is reminiscent of my favorite Street Artists Herakut. They do a lot of figurative art along with the portraits. Anyway, in one of your videos ,as you were making the portrait ,you mentioned your issue with mental health . For all my life starting in my teens I’ve struggled with depression and anxiety. I just turned 76 in December. Old, I know. Making things has saved me. I actually feel unwell if I’m not making things. I started out sewing clothes, moving on into sewing Quilts. When my eyes got a bit wonky I had to give up sewing. Out of desperation I started to paint portraits in oil on canvas. For a decade I painted. Then out of no where I lost interest. This time, up to today, I’m working in sketchbooks making portraits and figurative work. My mental health is better, but not all better. I can tell you for me and people I know depression and anxiety lessens as we get older. Maybe it has something to do with scarcity. There’s not much time left to be alive. I also think the plasticity of the brain changes as we age in a way that helps us to feel better. As you said, depression hurts. I don’t think people who have never experienced depressions can understand how the brain can hurt so badly. It is dreadful when the desire to make art goes dormant, but like depression lifts ; the desire to make art comes back. I could see straight away there was sadness in your life by looking into the faces you are creating. Believe in yourself, because your portraits are amazing. You’re still so young. Just think of where you might be at my age. I hope you continue to make videos. I especially enjoy the videos where you’re working in a slow speed, talking to us about your materials. Artists can be selfish sometimes. They keep their techniques a secrete. You’re the opposite of that. I believe you’re courageous in nature and that quality comes through in your art.
I love the depth and texture of your work… It has a very antique and distressed look to it and reminds me of a type of art that I had seen on an album cover before. Nice to see you have grown your channel so much since I first landed here! Keep up the good work :-) happy 2025.😉🎉✨🕊️
Gorgeous artwork. I really love the colors you use and the different textures you create with all the diff mediums, this was so so inspiring and just the drawings alone feel like poetry.🖤
Yes! I’m currently working on turning this sketchbook into a short book with some original poetry and short essays. But for printing cost I feel like turning it into a lengthy Zine would be much easier LOL.
