  • The Volvo seemed to take a long time to get up to operating temperature so I decided to replace the thermostat. The thermostat itself isn't expensive and although it appears to be accessible, one of the screws for the housing is impossible to get to because of the ancillary bracket. Unlike most other jobs on the XC90, this is a bit harder because the power steering pump, alternator and aircon compressor have to be unbolted from the bracket before it can be removed to get access to the bottom thermostat housing screw. Fortunately, the bracket doesn't have to be completely removed to gain access to the bottom thermostat housing screw. Aside from the previously mentioned difficulties, the thermostat replacement went without any problems and it appears to be reaching operating temperature a bit quicker.
