I can tell you from experience that new Tang routinely clumps up in those plastic containers. And if you keep it for more than a couple of years, the powder actually turns kind of a brownish orange. It still tastes OK though.

We helped clean out an elderly neighbor's house after she passed (was a widow for a few years) and there was, among other things, ancient meat in the freezer and canned foods so old whatever was inside had solidified into a chunk - you could shake the can and hear a single chunk rattle around. Some of them were even rusted through. That's the type of place I imagine the Tang packet came from.

Glad to hear the old Tang in the METAL can held up for that many years. I remember my dad drinking Tang when he was a teenager in the early to mid 70s. And when I was a kid back in the mid to late 90s, I let him taste Tang again. He remembers Tang was just a little sour back then, like you mentioned when you tasted the old stuff. The new Tang is sweeter, and tastes kinda like artificial flavored orange juice, or orange juice concentrate.

Also, the daily percents were different because the daily requirement for children is less than it is for adults, so for an adult that Tang had about 200% but for a kid it was about 400% of the daily requirement. Kids are smaller. By the way, you can get Tang sugar-free drops in a little squeeze bottle these days.

Then they brought it back and it is a bit more sweet than I remember it. Still one of the better drink mixes now that sugar is back in it though.
