Alarm will go off because it is monitoring the OBD port of the i3!
The dongle will set off the Alarm as it's still connected when you close the car.
Only wa to prevent it is either take out the dongle or use a coding programm. With that, you can customize the alarm system to not monitor OBD port.
    Regarding electrified app:
yes: -3kW means your pulling that much from the battery. When charging you will see positive numbers!
SOC HV in the middle coloum right shows real SOC as BMW uses a buffer. 100% on the instrument cluster an on top of the app equals 99,7% of the whole battery capacity.
Battery heater will use the function you described as preheating. It will heat passenger area and battery. But it will only heat up battery up to 11 degress Celsius. Therefore with 13 degrees at start of video it won't/can't heat up battery anymore!
Also: For the trunk you can find special inserts. They will make the room where the Rex used to be usable. Search for Wokeby!
And there is a solution to make the frunk watertight.
I3 is still a great car when you are ok with it's limitations. I drive a i3s with 94Ah and Rex and absolutely love the car.
With a coding app and obd dongle nearly everybody can to some degree customize the car.
Electrified works 100% with ABRP and live data from i3.
There is a way to do Screen Mirroring Android smartphones to the entertainment screen.
BTW: i3 is a designed electric vehicle. The rex was always only an add on for smaller batteries and non-European markets with the current battery. Design was pur electric. Just the software sometimes seems to be imported from their ICE cars.
Don't say i3 was designed as a hybrid. In 2013 it was necessary with the small batteries but you had to order it as optional equipment.

It's the dongle setting the alarm off, the car is awake for about 10 mins after locking, causing the alarm to detect the power drain through the dongle.(can be deactivated using bimmercode)
It will pull a max of 3kwh on the pre-heat mode,(depending on temperature) and if you do it unplugged them it will pull max of about 3kwh from the main battery.
The only! Way you can make the car preheat the battery whilst not driving is to plug the car in on charge and set a departure time for AT LEAST 3 hours from the current time, it will then bring the battery up "or down" to perfect operational temperature, and 30 minutes before departure it will turn on the internal cabin heaters and heat/cool cabin to 21.
Like I said , it will ONLY pre heat main battery if you set charge minimum of 3 hours before departure!
It will not preheat battery if not plugged in on charge !
Bit it will heat cool battery using the preheater if you are driving, this does it evwrytime you drive the car, you can't turn this feature off.
You can only use the key or app 3 times in 24 hours to heat, or unlock the car etc through the app, to reset this you must turn ignition on and then you get 3 attempts all over again., Possible the same through the key with pre heat.
When you use app or key to preheat it sets the car to 21 temperature, this cannot be changed, it will do everything else itself. It runs for 30 minutes then shuts off to not drain main battery, and I think if below 10% charge you can't use this feature (something like that).
Electrified is a great app, the "-" before numbers shows the drain on main battery.
Also I see it's showing 100% heath on battery, this will vary a bit depending on your last drive and how fast you charge, mine sometimes shows 93, but if I drive well and charge slow it jumps back up.
Oh, also the auxiliary preheat also cools the car down if your in a hot climate too!

Hi Bjorn, big fan. Have had an i3 for 2years.
The i3 works differently when plugged in or not.
If plugged in and you set a departure via the iDrive or app it will :
    1. Precondition the battery and warm it to the best temperature for longest range over 3hrs (forums say 0.5kw/hr draw max).
    2. It will warm/cool the cabin 30min before departure.
If charging on mains and you activate auxiliary climate control via any method it will warm the battery and cabin for 30mins.
If it IS NOT plugged in, setting a departure time or activating auxiliary climate control will only warm the cabin for 30mins.
The BMW i3 auxiliary climate control is an option and cannot be spec’d with a Rex version.

I have a 2016 i3 60 Ah REx with "auxiliary" climate control in iDrive/app. It's a European (Norwegian) version. What it doesn't have, is the heat pump - which I understand can't be spec'd with the REx.

It is the OBD that triggers the alarm. it is quite annoying. i think it happens most of the times when you lock the car.
You can turn off the alarm on the OBD if you use Bimmer code, but you have to do it in expert mode,if i remember it correctly.

Ok, friends again. 👍🏻 The ODBD connection causes the alarm. The old i3 can pull 32A on one phase. Preheating is always a little bit strange for me, sometimes hotter than normal, sometimes not. The i3 seems some kind of paranoid regarding heating and energy consumption. Battery conditioning is also pretty confusing for me: Maybe you can investigate under which conditions (connection type, temperature, state of charge....?) it does preheat the battery.

Hi Bjørn! :-) I'd be interested in a review of the current software status compared to the software from 3-4 years ago. The sat nav route planner was completely unusable back then, routing you across AC charging stations when DC fast chargers were nearby, and always taking the nearest possible charging station when planning a route, not the one that matches your current range. Has that improved? Does it know the status of all chargers yet? Does it know the charging speed of chargers and take that into account when routing?

  • @pilotandthecity8527
    @pilotandthecity8527 4 года назад

You don't have to get out of the car to start the pre heating. I use it during charging. If you're in the car, just push the button and it will start.
For the app, I think you can use it. If no-one else used it before, just go to the app store, download the bmw app and enter the VIN number. I think that's all what's needed.
If you want to preheat the battery, schedule a departure time in the app or in the car. The car will start to heat the battery 30 minutes before departure, will heat the cabin and load the 2 12 volts battery's to the max, to get max range. You'll notice that your battery charge will stay at 100% for the first 5-10 km's.

Closing the electrified app, stops the BT connection which in turn stops activity on the OBD and the alarm doesn't trigger.
