2. Hip-hop is often done...oddly in K-pop. It's like the companies listen to one shitty drill song or a lil pump song and say, "Yeah, this is how HipHop is done." 😭
How quick people are to forget the even stranger 2nd gen hip hop concepts that EVERY boy group had like BTS, BAP, and Block B. Bad Villain is a bad name? Are we forgetting that BTS literally stands for "Bulletproof Boyscouts" and RM stands for "Rap Monster"? Ngl hip-hop has always been done dirty in kpop. Does Korea even HAVE hoods? I'm sure they have bad neighborhoods but as an American who's not even from inner city hoods, I can't imagine why anyone would want to use that as an aesthetic? Hoods are really shitty places to grow up in.
@NinjaKittkatt Yeah, the hood is not fun or a place to want to be. And you're so right, Hip-hop concept always seen in a way, mostly that to do it, you need to be "thuggish" when you really don't need to have or act that way to make hip-hop music, though a lot of earlier Pioneers and current ones subscribed to this act. Plus, thanks cause I didn't know half of this cause I don't and didn't follow most 2nd and 3rd gen groups. If it's odd now, I can only imagine then when you could get away with ignorance a little more.

Just like otaku culture or race culture have their origins in different countries but y’all in America use them without thinking deeply about “cultural implications” . Korea has an underground rap scenes since the 90s and is quite popular, rap ≠ poor and a criminal, this is a stupid stereotype . in reality, there are only so many concepts to go around, so you will always have duplication, my opinion is XG doing hip-hop is legit, just look at reactions, a ton from people that are into rap and hip-hop are blown away. I watched XG do a 90’s music challenge, they guesed everything from Dr. Dre / Snoop Dog to Erykah Badu. One of Cocona’s favorite artist growing up was Lauren Hill. When she was in grade school, they did a class project, each student did a poster, saying what wanted to do as a career. Her poster said rapper. not a concept, just who they are.

Let me say this. 2016 was my introduction to kpop. Enter blackpink. I thought they were amazing. From their songs. To the visuals. It was on point. After that, I discovered BTS, same thing. Then enter stray kids. I loved stray kids for the simple fact of not only their music, but the rappers stood out to me even more. I understand that BTS has rappers and they are outstanding in my mind. However Jennie from blackpink was in an interview not too long ago, maybe a few years back & said that she did not want to be a rapper only because YG made her because she was the best at trapping during her audition.
Out of all three groups, the one group that stands out in my mind and that I have been following since last year since I discovered them has been XG. This group is going to be worldwide. Why? All of their songs that they sing/rap are in English. Look at the marketing and see how they’ve done it behind the scenes debuting in Korea and being recognized worldwide, all of the members individually are incredibly talented, and you cannot take that away. You cannot even deny that right now they are the best girl group out. And when these girls are often being compared to artists like Destiny’s Child, TLC, SWV, 3LW, and many more. (I have yet to hear a K-pop group that has been compared to either groups that I’ve listed or anyone else in that genre.) HELL! The rapping went as far as making xyphers and tapes for us! The vocal line is by far the best I have ever heard from the Asian market!
XG, they really are about the hip-hop and R&B life. That is one thing that I can say that is true. If you want to know more, I suggest that you watch behind the scenes and how they came up. The man behind the group is a GENIUS!!! and one of the smartest men I’ve ever witnessed in this business, he himself grew up on hip-hop and R&B. I understand that the Korean culture is completely different than the Japanese culture. Being in Japan three times out of my entire life I can actually say that the Japan culture really does and hip-hop and R&B. That’s why it’s so natural for these ladies (XG) to do what they do and have the haters that they have.
If anyone has not done it already, I suggest you do so. You might wanna listen to the song WOKE UP. They are addressing the same accusations as whatever everyone is talking about. When I tell you that these girls do not play. For crying out mayas favorite rapper is jcole. J COLE! And cocona didn’t shave her head for shits and giggles. She did it because she wanted to.

I have to be honest …I’ve been a fan of #XG when I believed they were an ELITE Dance Crew. Later I seen Teasers for “TIPPY TOES”. After, I watched their debut…people were accusing them of saying they were under YG. The HATERZ just came out of the woodwork. Then I responded to so many Xenophobic comments…I couldn’t believe the TOXICITY, ACCUSATIONS and NASTINESS. 3. Agree.. Fans need to know this about songwriting credits : there's hierarchy in songwriting credits, the first being the one who contributed most and the last being the least. So for a song with 8 songwriters, if your idol's name come in at the end, they were barely in the room. Stop overpraising like "his song, written by him" coz its not. This goes for BTS too. Armys just glorify BTS to be "self produced" when in reality (other than rapline) they barely contribute anything. This happened with V from BTS. I see Stray Kids, GIDLE, SEVENTEEN having more control in their work, including songwriting credits than BTS.

I don't agree with your statement about BTS not having as much hand on their songs as SVT, SKZ etc. You just showed me that you know little about BTS cus if you actually know them, you would know how involved they are in their music. Just some examples, RM wrote most of spring day lyrics, he's also the one who came up with the melodies, Jhope is the produced dis-ease for himself but ended up doing it with the other members, Suga produced Daechwita with his friend, even V composed the song zero o'clock for himself but ended up doing as BTS. They even go on live, mostly RM, to talk about how they made their songs/album.

For high notes, I agree, my favourite vocalists are Lia, Haewon and Miyeon. What I love about Haewon is her strong voice rather than her falsetto and what I love about Lia’s voice is when it’s smooth like her cover of “Can’t take my eyes off of you”. Of course I love vocalists like Winter who can break glass with her drama high note but sometimes I prefer the lower voices 🫶🏼

2:42 the thing is is that kpop is built off of changing true hiphop to vibe more with the general public instead of actually doing something truly hiphop related.
One of the main reasons Spice Girls are one of the most successful girl groups in history is because each member had their own personality regardless of their power as a group. I can count on my fingers the few kpop groups that do the same, because the majority just feels generic as the time goes by. It’s like the members are just there to carry a brand name more than anything.
XG, despite not being kpop, has the most organic growth I’ve ever seen in a girl group in a long time, because each member is so freaking unique and they become even better as a team, like, they’re unmatched. From someone who’s been into groups since I was a kid, no wonder why they’re standing out and there’s a lot more to come.

Not dragging anyone down here, but let’s see NMIXX. I LOVE their music and I’m a huge fan of their work, but since debut I still don’t see each member’s personality speak through their music. I can’t relate to them individually, yet I know they’re really talented.
XG has been loud and clear about what each member represents (specially after shooting star) and that’s how you attract more stans. Some kpop groups can go viral because of their songs and get some kind of following but for the general audience it’s more about the song and the aesthetics rather than realizing how great they can be. Because they’re carrying the brand on their backs, not adapting it to fit their individual auras.

It’s not about how many notes you can carry, it’s about the quality of your basket. Even if you can carry high notes that doesn’t matter because if your basket (technique) has holes in it you’re going to drop them at one point or another.
