They actually make universal heads that let you fill the string easily, all you do is pass it through and turn the head and it re wins it for you. You don't have to pop the head off or anything. #GAMECHANGER
Wait can you tell me the name/brand of one of them? When I Google it there are about 69420 different types of contraptions and none of them seem like they will do what you said and fit into your avg whacker
I used steel wire once... that was both the smartest and dumbest idea I ever had... that wire at Mach whatever would obliterate anything it came in to contact with. Again that wire would obliterate anything even my foot when it finally broke.
I think using a smaller zip tie would be ideal due to the flex. Where as the thicker one inevitably breaks on contact with hard surfaces such as da tree
Big zip ties are just as flexible as small ones. The design of a zip tie isn’t made for this. Even if it was a very strong plastic it would be crap. The zip ties aren’t spinning aerodynamically. Not to mention it wasn’t balanced at all.
I ran out of string about 8 years ago. Since I don't cut up against anything fragile, I used two pieces of a wire coat hanger and its been on there ever since.
Anytime I grab the line trimmer I also grab a precut length of trimmer line wound up in about a 3 inch circle and put it in my pocket. If and when I run out of string, it takes about 30 seconds where-ever I am to run the new line. No walking back to the garage till the job is done.
The old farm foreman from my last place of employment use to string up the farm weedwaker with small diameter stainless steel cable instead of weedeater string. Stuff would cut threw damn near anything and last a really long time. But yes definitely wear chaps and eye protection if u try it safety 1st! 😂
@@RickVasquez-qf3eb the guard has a cutter on it so everytime you hit the ground to bring string out let's just say for example if it releases 6 inches and it the cutter on the guard is there it will literally cut the extra string off and if it's 6 inches like I mentioned and the cutter is 3 inches away that's 6 inches each time (3 inches on each side), so it's just wasting it.
Thanks for trying these hacks. I mostly watch because I’m curious. This channel regresses me to childhood watching those clips on how stuff is made on Mr. Rogers. I gotta be honest though, what gets me coming back are your reactions to things cause, I have the same reaction sometimes! Lol
Holy shit… my dad ran an audio business but passed away. He left dozens of commercial sized boxes and spools of speaker wire. Add it to the list of things I’ll be using it for! Haha!
Safety tip for someone with kids…put zip ties where kids can’t get them. Worked in Peds, kid put one around neck and tightened. Panicked and pulled even more. Neck began swelling. You can imagine. They lived close to our facility and could be there before ambulance could reach them. Kid survived but horribly bruised.
You can precut the line and tie knots in it. Then, load one piece at a time instead of winding the whole thing. The one I have has an attachment for plastic brush-cutter teeth. The instructions showed how to tie line to the brush cutter attachment, in case you don't want to carry both attachments.
Just from my experience with zip ties failing when attempting to use them as intended I knew this would never work. I did try some aviation cable, it worked amazingly until little pieces of the individual stands of the cable began busting off and embedding into my leg. I decided that perhaps in this case they actually got it right the first time, no need to reinvent the wheel with weed eater string! 😂
I done away with stock spools. I have two different depending on use. For the heavy back behind fence along the field, I use the bladed setup. And with regular I purchased a 2 piece corded. It’s a attachment that simply allows you to push in, precut, string and when they get worn out just place two more in. Much easier and fits my Stihl
The lovely part of being a shil owner…. And I’ve been in lawn care for a few years now but .get online. Get an extra, or multiple extra center pieces that you wind your string on……..and just carry the extra in your back pocket, cheap holster for your belt or whatever. Just pop the empty out, and pop the full spare in and off you go. Also if you get multiple you can sit down and string as many as you want and never have to get stopped by having to find the string so on and so forth.
Husqvarna makes a line that lasts. I use the brush cutter head for really tough stuff but their top end line has an orange outside and black inner layer, it's the best I've encountered in 3 decades of trimming
That metal hoop inside your trim guard is for cutting the string when it is too long. You can see it when he is holding the wacker up after trimming the zips
of all of the hacks you have tried, I was really hoping this one would work. my string got all tangled to shit and I have to open it up to pull more out ever time it needs more string.
Buy the weed eater heads that are center fed that you don't need to remove. You just rotate them until you can see through the center(there is also typically a marking), cut the string to length, feed it in, and turn it to draw the string in. If you need to open up your weed eater head to restring it, you have the wrong head. Any serious landscaper has these...
The zip ties you had you probably had sitting in your garage for a while and they break easily that does due to heat! With "new" zip ties it'll work try try again
This is why I prefer the speed loader heads, all I have to do is keep a bunch of 10 inch strips and pliers in my pocket and I'm good to go until my pocket is empty. Most municipalities I've worked for don't even bother with the bump or twist heads, too much downtime.
Yeah I'm good with loading my speed feed heads with Husqvarna razorcore string. Some real mean and tough stuff. Soak your string in a bucket about an hour before you trim and your good to go. It hydrates the string, toughens it and also makes it super flexible so it flexes and doesn't break as easily.
High E guitar string works good…. It does wear the shaft out after a LONG time and it will cut a power pole down and your foot off if you’re not careful
Don't use heavy duty ones, they are build to be hard to take stress, the smaller ones are not build for this so they are much more flexible, hope it helps 😊
The other commenters are correct. You can not use heavy zip ties. They must be small thin and flexible. They will still break eventually but will usually last long enough to do a normal yard.
I tried picture frame wire...it totally shredded the wire & was bound up. Not worth it, although I did watch a guy use a short length of chain that he welded to a plate. It seemed to work.
I tried this last summer fucked up my shin 😂
Yikes
I actually did this but with sting that is smaller and more flexible.
🤣😂👏🏼
@@That40yearguy you had it running against the grain of the zip tie.

With the EGO series you just pull the line through the head to the half way mark and push a button. It winds it for you.

Holy crap that sounds dangerous as f@#k. 😂
😂😂😂 I've thought of that but have never tried it.
I think it was because you used the heavy duty ones. They were not thin ND flexible enough.

If your whacker string is old and breaks easily, soak it in water for a while. Rehydrates it . Learned this from a pro.

Ps... You don't need to cut them most weed Wackers have a piece of plastic that cuts them to good length... It's a sharp point on the string guard
Except at that length it could hit the guard abd given the thickness if the zip ties it could destroy a plastic guard.
I actually predicted this before the end. My cable ties are always snapping. Maybe we are both buying the same cheap cable ties on Amazon? 😂
Steel cable wire lol.
So instead of carrying a string you have a pack of zip ties
