    good explanations, No such thing like a target loudness. Coz just one sample will be uploaded to all digital platforms. Thanks for this Video

    hi there. great info, many thanks. funny thing is ! ive be using this feature since V5 only as INFO for my target on mix down. and then making the adjustments manualy before mixing down ! i didnt even realise it was there to do the prossesing for me :) but yeh i agree with your opinion. mix your master with good levels, with no clipping and let the outlets deal with it there way. that said this feature may be handy for people working with the video/movie side of things ? but im guessing 👻 happy halloween

      That's not a bad way at all to approach it. In fact thinking about what you've said you could have your original processed Master run through the feature with Normalization applied, then adjust your original master with more dynamics to compare against this Normalized version. That would be quite useful.
      But this wont do all of the processing for you, it will just turn the file up or down dependent on whether there is peak level to play with, but you're right it could come in handy for the video side of things.
      Thanks for watching Charlie.

    How do I find what formats (ogg-vorbis, AIFF, etc) to use when comparing the affect of different streaming outlets algorithms?

    • @ProgressiveSoundAudio
      @ProgressiveSoundAudio  Год назад

      Great question and the only way I know of at present is to google 'name of streaming platform' loudness normalization (for example Spotify Loudness Normalization). They will each then reference which playback formats they use. Many will use AAC but Spotify also references Ogg Vorbis. Sorry to not be of more use here but they are all their own beast and use different methods. But you have given me a great idea to compile something together to make available for you all.

      Great question and it depends. To clarify do you mean -16/-17LUFS? If so it will all depend on your peak level. For example if you have a LUFS level of -16 with a True Peak level of -1dB then no your song won’t be turned up as there needs to be 1dB of headroom for the encoding process. But if your song is -16 LUFS with a True Peak level of -3dB then yes your song will be turned up to -14LUFS so it all depends on your Peak level.
      I’ve not personally tested this feature on songs quieter than -14LUFS so you may need to check if this feature will turn your song up but it will all depend on your true peak level. Hope this makes sense.

    I have wondered about things you have brought up here. Thank you for the clarification.
    It seems True Peak is this holy grail so what is the best way to get to a -1 TP?

    • @ProgressiveSoundAudio
      @ProgressiveSoundAudio  Год назад

      This is such a great question.
      In short the LUFS and True Peak go hand in hand. The Peak level measures the maximum peak whereas LUFS measures perceived loudness. Neither is exclusive and both are important.
      True Peak is actually very easy to achieve and can be done by a Limiter or even just gain increase or Normalizing. The challenge is maintaining the True Peak at -1dB whilst achieving your optimal loudness.
      I can’t really advise what the best way is as it depends on the song but the most straightforward way is simply with a Limiter with a ceiling set to -1dB and boosting the gain to the loudness that sounds best 👍

    • @dawmix
      @dawmix Год назад +1

      @@ProgressiveSoundAudio Thank you! I have surmised that no matter what, a -15 combined LUFs + TP is the nominal target and this can be achieved via -14/-1 0r -12.5/-2.5, or -11.5/-3.5. Do you concur or what would you say? I get you say whatever the song needs, knowing this will be normalized per album and playlist, so just do it al let the system go what it will. My point is do you still keep some sort of target range in mind?

    • @ProgressiveSoundAudio
      @ProgressiveSoundAudio  Год назад +1

      @@dawmix No I use absolutely no target at all. It's not as simple as using LUFS and True Peak as a calculation as they measure different things. LUFS is a measurement of perceived loudness where as True Peak is the loudest peak level, so a -14LUFS Int plus -1dB TP doesn't equate to -15. You can maintain a -1dB True Peak Level whilst achieving any number of LUFS configurations as it's a totally different measure. The -1dB True Peak is important as this allows 1dB of Headroom for the Streaming Codec process but the LUFS Int I would recommend at least -14 LUFS and no quieter due to Loudness Normalization challenges. I typically end up somewhere between -10 and -13 Integrated but not always and it all depends on the song.

    • @dawmix
      @dawmix Год назад +1

      @@ProgressiveSoundAudio agreed. Depends on the song. I have seen reference to the lower TP if Lower LUF and it appeared as a coefficient. Even so it depends on the song and you have convinced me it doesn’t really matter and I have turned off the option in my export.

    • @ProgressiveSoundAudio
      @ProgressiveSoundAudio  Год назад +1

      The coefficient aspect is roughly what the Streaming platforms do when it comes to Normalizing. So a -10LUFS song with a -1dB True Peak will be in the ballpark of -14LUFS with a -5dB True Peak once Normalized (it’s not an exact figure and changes based on Album or Playlist Normalizing) but it’s not something we need to do this end 👍

    Hi great video. In my use case I would like the option to turned it up even if it were to compress the file against the limit i set. I will say I'm not a music producer so I get why this would be bad. I use a daw to help put an internet radioshow together for my wife so the music files mp3 and wav are already set. The issue here is from one song to the next the lufs levels are all different so I need a way to automate getting to a level we decided on, -12lufs stereo-15lufs mono files in our case, so people don't have to ride the volume. I get this is not ideal but seems to be ok on playback for this use. I currently use Adobe Audition software and it's match loundness feature as it lets you set peak and lufs regardless of whether the level would be turned up or down against the peak level limit set. Would like to see this in Studio one as I prefer it in some ways especially navigating around it and then I could just pay for sphere only and not adobe as well!

    • @ProgressiveSoundAudio

      Yeah that’s a great idea, Reaper also has a Normalize audio feature where you can Render to a Normalized LUFS setting which would also work great for what you need. That way the levels are all perceived the same without compressing the source.

    • @MyTerryw
      @MyTerryw 2 года назад +1

      @@ProgressiveSoundAudio thats interesting to know as have reaper but never really used it, will have a look. In audition looking at the wave form it does compress it against the limit set but as some files are mp3 compression is a given!

    • @ProgressiveSoundAudio
      @ProgressiveSoundAudio  2 года назад +1

      Yeah I know what you mean but certainly take a look at the Reaper options. I’m pretty sure you could add multiple audio files into the Render queue and then do them all at once 👍
