  • Here is how to fold down the windshield on a Jeep Wrangler JL model. Before you fold downthe windshield, you also have to remove the windshield wipers, which is pretty easy unless they are stuck, in which case you might need a special tool to break them loose. The windshield on a jeep Wrangler JL is held on by four bolts that are easy to remove, and once you remove those four bolts you just fold the jeep windshield forward on to the hood, and then it’s a good idea to use jeep tiedowns to keep the windshield from flopping back up while you’re driving. This video teaches you everything you need to know about how to fold down the windshield on your jeep Wrangler JL. This video also shows you how to remove the windshield wipers from your jeep Wrangler JL 4 x 4.

I see this option only being good while slow crawling while off roading. Eating bugs at 40+ mph ain’t fun lol

That’s true. Most people will never want to do it, but everybody wants to know that they’re able to do it. It was definitely unpleasant when we got it over 40 miles an hour around town.

Very cool - thanks for the helpful video. I would be worried about the windshield coming up while driving without the tie-downs!! I had a Honda Civic once which had a problem with its hood - and I tied it with some string or something that was obviously not good enough - and as I got on the freeway and hit about 50 mph, the hood came up and hit my windscreen and cracked it! I had to stop on the side of the highway in a hurry!

I had to fold my windshield down today on my Jeep Gladiator and had the same issue with the wipers, which was why I was here. I ended up leaving them on with the hood up since I didn't need to fold it all of the way down. I needed to route the SPOD controller cable in the channel below the wind shield, that's one reason to do this, it makes the process a whole lot easier to get the ethernet cable into the cab but it's really not worth the hassle otherwise IMO.

Another way to try to get the wipers off without the puller is to push on the joint of the wiper arm repeatedly until it comes off. That’s of course if you don’t want to get a tool to get it off

It goes back to the WWII models. The real purposes were for stacking Jeeps to ship across the ocean, to fit stretchers, and haul longer military equipment. It remains today but the JL is different only allowing the window to be lowered or removed. It actually doesn’t bother me though, the JK looked dumb with the rest of the roll cage and missing section up front

Jeep shouldn't have done this. There's no point. I take mine down so I have an unobstructed view. Now, you still have a frame. It's silly. Taking the complete window down was my favorite thing. Even though it took a bit and I had to remove part of the roll bar. Since we can't anymore, I may go to a bronco. They can't either but I like how the doors work.
