Such a powerful statement that Adele made….”It is not my job to validate how people feel about their bodies”….This is an amazing woman, not just because she is a talented singer, but because this is what overcoming tough obstacles look like and at the end having the courage to stand…

A bunch of fat activists feel betrayed because they relied on a celebrity for validation instead of looking within. That was the first mistake. If you are so proud to be fat, it shouldn't matter what some celebrity is doing with their own body.

I'm so happy for her, I wish I would have lost this extra weight before it started affecting my knees and hip. I'm only in my mid 30s, and it feels like I'm ancient. I don't exactly care about looking skinnier, but body positivity doesn't prevent you feeling pain when you're carrying around 50lbs or more of excess weight.

I'm young with joint issues too, and I really recommend seeing a physical therapist if you have joint issues, and don't blame it all on weight. Most people do not use all their muscles efficiently and have weaknesses that make the larger muscles overcompensate, causing pain. As someone who's weight has run the gamut because of health reasons, and who has seen how differently doctors treated me when I was overweight, normal weight, and underweight, (through NO attempt of my own to control my weight), I say your weight is probably not the main issue with joints. You should also talk to the physical therapist and see if you have hypermobile joints, which you must do different exercises for than a regular person. (Hypermobility can be a sign of some other issues like EDS, but plenty of people are just hypermobile and simply need to take care when strengthening joints to not hyperextend, and avoid contact sports).
Doctors ALWAYS say all your health problems are because "you need to lose weight". Which is BS. They won't even address your real issues until you're underweight. Even at a healthy weight I was told to lose weight for my joints, even though I couldn't eat because of motility issues. Wasn't until I was underweight that doctors showed sympathy.
Go see a physical therapist first before starting a weightloss journey. You may injure yourself further while exercising. Plus physio's can recommend how to properly do exercises for your specific body in the gym, or even just walking ( for example mine told me to walk backwards in a pool. I never would have thought to do that but it's really helped my ankles especially). I don't recommend a sport performance physio because they can be too "no pain no gain". I was an athlete all my life from a family of athletes before my current health issues, and the sports physio's I saw when I was competing I believe in some cases didn't help, and may have done more harm than good. But when you are healing BEFORE you start the exercising, you need to go gentle and slowly strengthen the smaller muscles in the joints and core, as well as possible chiropractic type adjustments. Then when you start exercising you won't get injured. You may even get rid of your pain completely before you start exercising, or at least get to the point that you can start tolerating exercise, and then as you exercise the pain will lessen.
Just my two cents, I'm not a doctor, so take this with a grain of salt. I wish you luck on your health journey, and hope you stay injury free. And don't listen to fat-phobic doctors who blame everything on fat. Fat isn't evil, shame is.

The unfortunate thing is that people don't realise she still is excellent representation for the plus size community. She was much larger at the start of her career and began at a time when there wasn't nearly as much of a conversation around body acceptance in the media... making a name for herself at that size in that era will always be an incredible achievement no matter how slim she is now. She paved the way for a lot of other successful women that don't fit the skinny popstar norm. That contribution shouldn't disappear just because she's lost weight!

Being overweight is not all about the looks. Those who prone body positivity and expect you to embrace your curves and keep them at all cost, do they realise what carrying all that extra weight feels like? It's like having heavy bags of rice strapped all around your body at all times. Around your knees, hips, tummy, back, arms. When you sit up and down, when you walk, when you get up the stairs, when you go to bed. Day and night, 24/7. Wouldn't we all like to drop the weight, shed it off, if we could? I know I did. I went from 80kilos for 1m76 (so nor obese at all) to 54 kilos: 5cms thigh gap, feel like a model, so much more energy, etc. The weight loss was super easy. The way we look is 85% nutrition, so I didn't even need the gym, just awareness of what goes on my plate.

People who hate on ocerweight people for losing weight are jealous because they are not disciplined to put in the work required to lose the weight. Who on earth would want to carry around 100lbs of excess weight by CHOICE?? She has done well and looks great and younger.

Absolutely 💯. Nailed it. Nobody really WANTS to carry around that much excess weight. One can be accepting about it, but given a choice anyone would want to go healthier.

She was beautiful when she was heavier, & she’s beautiful now. Some people (commenters) will just never be happy.

I love this. The ONLY reason I work out is to keep my depression and anxiety under control. Am I in a lot better shape physically now, yes. But that's a side effect for me. I had someone at my gym trying to mansplain to me what kind of workout I should be doing to get the best results. Having a modicum of sanity is the only result I care about. Being able to get through the day without a panic attack is the reward, not what I look like.

As someone who went from 345 to 173 at 6'1" in 2 years and have kept it off for 8 years it is like being reborn. It is another chance at life. All my medical problems went away. Someone pointed out to me that I am half the person I used to be. The thing is in my minds eye I still sometimes think that I am fat.
