    Hello. Thank you for this wonderful lesson. I have a question about how to pronounce the letter x because it is sometimes pronounced like eks, like the word exhibition. Sometimes it is pronounced like egz, like the word exhilarate. I want to know the rule for pronouncing the letter x. Thanks.

    • @EnglishwithLiz
      @EnglishwithLiz  3 месяца назад +2

      Hi
      The most common pronunciation for the letter x is /ks/. If the x is at the end of the word, pronounce it as /ks/ such as fax, tax, etc.
      It also produces /ks/ sound, when x comes after a stressed vowel, as in extra, taxi, etc.
      When letter x comes before, a stressed vowel is pronounced as a voiced /gz/. For example, exactly, exemplar, example, etc.
      There are few least common words starting with the letter x, such as xenophobe and xylophone. In these words, the pronunciation of the letter x is /z/. Hope this helps! Love and peace 😊

    "Indict" is pronounced "indite"

    • @EnglishwithLiz
      @EnglishwithLiz  3 месяца назад +3

      You are absolutely right, indict does have a silent C as do czar, acquire, and yacht. There are, unfortunately, lots of one off silent letters in English, so when I give a list of rules I tend to only include those where several words are covered by the rule, otherwise it would be very confusing for most. Love❤️ & 🕊️Peace. Liz

      Hi. You need to pronounce the 'l' in wolf, otherwise it sounds like woof which is the name given to the sound of a dog barking.
      Say it like this 1 syllable: "WUULF"
      Love & peace
