I had a 74 javelin, my first car, always wanted me an amx, can't wait to watch the restoration!
👍😊
Awesome AMX Jerry! I’m jealous…😁😁
Thanks for checking it out Bondo Billy - you've good some good content. Good name too - have a good weekend 😊
I live in Kenosha where they made the AMX. I remember getting rides home from junior high and sitting in the back portion of course with no rear seat. I believe it was a 68, and i just sat there watching the tach enjoying the ride
Thanks for the story. I knew nothing about these cars before I bought this one. I always thought they were pretty cool looking but didn't know where they were built and all the interesting history behind them and AMC.
@@LakesideAutobody Google Kenosha Homecoming 2025. There is a big AMC show here in Kenosha, WI at the Lake Michigan Lakefront, every 3-4 years.
Also one of the plants here in town was called the lakefront plant. They used to paint the cars there, then transport them to the main plant. The plant has been torn down after Chrysler closed it, when they stopped engine production.
Really looking forward to this rebuild. Leave the side pipes Jerry.
Thanks for checking it out LB - enjoy the weekend :)
I like the side pipes and slots. My brother had a ‘69 Firebird with slots, they looked really good on it. That’s how I got hooked on slots. Look forward to seeing what happens with this build.
Slots were huge in the 70's - nothing cooler really. Throw some fat tires and slot rims on an old LTD with a couple air shocks and a brand new Kraco stereo & you were good to go!! Oh don't forget some home speakers laying on the package shelf in the back window 😊
Very nice Jerry. It will be fun to watch you work your magic on the AMX.
Thanks 👍 - hope all is well - have a good weekend :)
AMX is a cool-looking car, I've always liked them.
👍
I’m excited to see this build Jerry💯
Thanks UPK - hoping all goes well on this one :)
@@LakesideAutobody it’s in the right hands, it’ll go great!
That is a very solid looking old car. And standard ! I love AMCs, this is going to be a great series. I'm really looking FWD to it !!!
Glad to hear it PSG. Thanks for checking it out my friend :)
Looks like a fun project can't wait to see
👍
Great vehicle. Amx and Javelin are two of the coolest american cars
You're right about that - good designers back then :)
Always side pipes...great car!
👍😊
Great car love the AMX
always love the amc/amx, looking forward the this.. gotta keep the side pipes!
Thanks Jake - pipes might be staying - I like the look too 👍😊
What a gem.
Can't wait to see more. Great find Jerry
Thanks for checking it out HKR - happy 🎄's
looking forward to this one! and definitely side pipes
Thanks BT - enjoy the weekend :)
Looking forward to some vids on this i like watching rust repair jobs even if they are Hacks Lol i just did a Hack one my self to a friend's truck thru inspection here
Hello Jerry what a great car you have there my friend not in bad shape at all I wish I can find a Firebird in that shape I can't wait to see you work your magic on it thanks for sharing 👍
Thanks Luis - I'll keep my eyes open for a clean bird - you never know. Enjoy the weekend :)
Nice candidate for restoration. The AMX as ive heard it called the poor mans Corvette was a really nice ride. Yes i concur keep the side pipes. Looking forward to watching your progress.
Thanks DJ - have a good weekend :)
I love this car and it's in great shape! I looked into the center dash number plates a few years ago while I was looking at one for sale here. Apparently they aren't in any sequence at all and early models didn't have one at all. Meaning #2002 isn't the 2002nd AMX built, just completely random. At least that's what I was able to learn on an AMC forum.
Gotta keep the sidepipes and slots! Must have been fun in snow with the snow front tires but the radial T/As on the back must have been fun. Drifting before it became popular!
I look forward to more videos of this car and the restoration of it
Thanks for the comment Bruce - appreciate the help with the numbers on the dash. Would have been a blast driving this car when it was new - what a great time it was back then :)
Looks like you have something pretty decent to work with.
Good luck with the project.
Long live AMC muscle! 💪🏼
Thanks for checking it out my friend - It will be a project but hopefully we get it on the road soon :)
Nice looking car and keep the pipes.
Thanks Terry - I always liked side pipes. Guess it's part of growing up in the 70's :)
I know it takes an extreimly amount of money. If it came with side pipes, keep them please! Nice car, especially from up there! Super cool find!!! This will be fun.
Looking forward to driving it one day. Everything came apart very nicely - the bolts and screws actually came loose - not all rusted. It was a pleasure taking it apart - hopefully the same putting it together :)
Oh man I love the AMX.
Thanks for the comment - they are sort of an underdog muscle car 👍
That’s a really neat AMC, good luck with your project Jerry😊
Thanks! MOR - thanks for checking it out :)
Nice project and nice car... Can't wait to follow along... M
Thanks 👍 - Looking forward to getting it started. Have a couple things to finish before though :)
any indepth videos of the restoration would be very appreciated as this is my dream car
I'll be starting them soon - got a few cars to finish up before it though. Looking forward to the restoration 👍😊
I can't wait to see this build!
Hope you do a modified build instead of a stock build.
Suspension is the key to these cars, done right and they run like they are on rails.
Great car!!! Slalom racing instead of drag racing is more my interest because of the handling requirements.
It's completely taken apart at the moment. I'm looking forward to starting the restoration but got some cars to finish before. Glad you're interested RS - have a good weekend :)
No problem, I watch every show and have learned so much. Great Channel!!!!!@@LakesideAutobody
Woo hoo! Made my Friday with this one... Have a great weekend.
Happy to hear that Mopar Nut - you have a good weekend too my friend :)
Man that looks like a nice base to work off of! I say ditch the side pipes. Discreet exhaust is the way to go.
Thanks DSS - It's all taken apart right now - you're right - it's a good candidate for a resto 👍💯😊
I'm really looking forward to your restoration of your AMX, Jerry. I like sidepipes for the period cars that had them, like the Corvette.......and the AMX. Looking at google images, the ones on your AMX do not appear to be the factory side pipes. I imagine a set of orignal side pipes would cost dearly, if they were even available.
To keep it period correct, it needs a set of 50 series Micky Thompsons for the rear and some 70 series bias plys for the front. :-)
You're right. I think it has to have the white letters on the tires for sure. Hard to find white letter tires that look cool though - maybe the MT's - wish they still made Dunlop Qualifiers - they were very cool looking :)
Been a while not seeing any of your car body work. Look forward to this new project jerry 😊
Got a project of two to finish and then it's on to this one. Thanks for watching - I'll be gettin' some good vids on soon 👍😊
This could be interesting videos.
👍😊
I like the side pipes, looks like those are shot but new shiney chrome ones fit the build. You have some quarter work but surprisingly not much more rust than that. Looking forward to seeing your next move on the AMX. Thanks and have a great weekend
I like the pipes too really - new ones like you said. Thanks for checking it out RG - Enjoy the weekend :)
I think I still have the reflector that says AMX that goes between the tail lights somewhere in the shop.
I like the car , I would keep the side pipes ,I would get new wheels, new tires where I live it’s warm , I know what the cold is like though I lived in Lake Orian Michigan when I was younger, I learned a lot that year from my Uncle I had a great time
Glad you like it. Did you know a last name of Doan? My aunt and uncle lived there in Lake O. Have a great weekend 👍
@@LakesideAutobody I don’t remember that name , except I remember Doans kidney pills lol, I’ll ask my cousin, I worked in Pontiac, at McDonald’s, my Uncle was a Forman at Pontiac motors, I got to go and get a personal tour sometimes, he was aloud to order three cars a year, fishing was awesome , one of the best years of my life , when I was their he order a GT - 37 I talk to much have a great weekend 👍
factory sidepipes were a dealer installed opition called "trendsetters" are reproduced and available from AMC parts vendors
Very cool - thanks for that information. Merry Christmas 🎄🎅🎉😊
Great car in good condition for age..
Looking forward to seeing the rust repairs etc.
Thanks for watching Nige - have a good weekend :)
Well sidepipes with slots or steelies and dog dishes with no pipes, some widened steelies on back with the dog dishes would look good i think
Thanks for you input - much appreciated. Have a good week my friend :)
Good old American motor my neighbor had a javelin what a great car and pretty fast this should be a great project car😂😅
Thanks for checking it out. Lots of folks have a story or two about an AMC product - sort of a real underdog but lots of folks drove one at one time or another :)
Nice content!
Thanks FKT - enjoy the weekend :)
Cool car, albeit it a tad rough. Luckily you know a good paint and body guy, lol. My vote is to return it to stock, keep it original.
Sounds good - Stock is always a good look :)
I like the AMX very nice find I take it was probably left in a garage or barn I hope that the Crider's didn't destroy to much the badge on the dash might have been a build sequence number like Ford did with the Bullitt
I do think it has something to do with the build sequence - not sure though. It was left untouched except by rodents for 30+ years in a pole barn in Iowa :)
Wow! She's I nice candidate for a project! I would loose the slots and side pipes though. Looking forward to see how it turns out.
Slots are gone for sure. Pipe probably too - not sure yet on that - thanks for the suggestions :)
Wow, now we can see your magic skills this is going to be fun are parts easily available?
A lot of the parts are available - some will have to be hunted down. I like the hunting process though - wish there were more old fashion junk yards to search through around here. Thanks for checking it out :)
jerry you can buy the patch panels for the quarters for the amx
Thanks for the information - I'll look them up. Have a good weekend Nicholas.
I can’t wait to see the restoration! Are you going to put it on a rotisserie?
I would if I had the room in my yard but I don't. Wish I lived on a a farm or had more room. Yard is 150x66 and a lot of it is taken up by a raised drainage field - live by the lake 🥴 Bottom is clean though and I think I have a good plan to make it look really nice :)
Considering that it's 50 years old, not bad condition
👍
Friend of mine had 74 AMX with those side pipes. If you were not careful getting in and out when they were hot, with shorts, on they would burn the flesh off of the legs. He ended up getting rid of the steel pipes and going with aluminum.
Thanks for the story XJH - have a good weekend :)
390 and a 4 speed, what a treat! I saw some blue or seafoam aquamarine in the door there, going back to that color or painting it something different, unless you aren't going to fully respray it?
That blue is the original color - Caravelle Blue. That with the flat or satin black stripes. Should be a treat for sure with the 4 speed 😊
@@LakesideAutobody nice, I have a 71 Javelin SST that was originally the Electric Blue, super nice color but the previous owner painted over it in 1984 to just a more generic blue. Still looks good overall but its definitely a 10 footer car. Any timeline for the next video? Looking forward to the next part regardless
I post every Friday at 6pm. I've got a few videos coming up before really getting into this car. Right now I'm in the middle of redoing the front suspension. After it's running, I'll really be uploading a lot of body work videos on it. Glad you like it. I actually thing the 71 Javelin is a cooler body style but this will look pretty tough when it's done I think. @@ferdinand9103
@@LakesideAutobody awesome, because it seems that completed restorations for AMC stuff is few and far between on RUclips. Good to hear that its not been shelved yet lol. Can't wait for the next video on it!
I would go back to the original duel exhaust you already have the right trans mount and the front pipes are smashed showing you whats in the future also I have been burned several times by side pipes when wearing shorts
Good points Dave. Why do you think those pipes got smashed - too close to the ground? Not supposed to be there or not supposed to have side pipes?
👍🏻looks like a good project. Is this one for you?
This one is for me Michael - looking forward to driving it. Always wanted a 4 speed with posi - it's got the factory amc posi still 😊
That's a really cool muscle car. I'm looking forward to watching the restoration. I wonder what the badge on the dash is. Is this some sort of limited edition? I would say keep the side pipes but they appear to be missing sections and what's left looks rusted out.
Thanks KG - not sure if it was some type of special order. They did have the GO PACK but there's no way to tell except by the original sticker I think :) It's got everything the go pack came with though 👍
Keep the side pipes, I wish I had some for my 72 Javelin SST. If you have all4 slot wheels I'd keep them too, if there 15's, 14's toss'em.
Thanks for the information and advice on the rims/side pipes. Have a good weekend my friend :)
The AMC AMX came with dash numbers. Its just how they came. Leave it cause its correct
Nice - thanks for the information :)
Wow! She's super solid! I figured it would be more "chewy" coming from the rust belt. Did ya find it locally?
Iowa. It was in a pole barn for years - absolutely filled with mice nests. Behind every panel, in the heater box, air cleaner, doors, under seats, even above the glove box and in it. Stunk like heck and all chewed up.
The door window track in them suck nice project!
The doors are pretty rough so I'll be experiencing the tracks for sure :)
360 or 390 CI? I remember seeing Mark Donahue race the AMX at Road American as a teenager.
390 - 4 speed
Jerry how did tiddle work out ?
It worked out well Super G - got a nice clean Michigan Title. Hope all is well with you my friend. Talk to you soon :)
My uncle had a red one in the 70s. Such a cool car but lose the side pipes, its not a corvette.
Thanks for the suggestion Arthur - have a good weekend :)
Hi Jerry. Wow. Shes a beauty. Little rough, but i definitely know a body guy that can do the work and definitely make it driveable. His name is Jerry :) have some down time, so im going to write to you and send you some pics. What was your email again? Hopefully i wont be caught up in your spam :) thx jerry
Thanks 👍 it's schoolvideolibrary @ gmail.com
Got it, thx again Jerry
