Apple could easily add an iPadOS mode when connected to a display, just like the Samsung Dex and I doubt it will have a notable impact on the sales of Macs and iPads.
One device for everything! It will have impact on the sales of Macs, iPads, all Windows computers, and all Android devices. I think the future is bright in this area. I can see smartphones becoming capable computers.

I can agree with you. You need to have a secondary screen to use Desktop Mode. That's why I never think it can ever disrupt the laptop sales as not everyone wants the hassle of bringing a portable monitor around.
More of limited implementation of iPad's Stage Manager, that on initial connection to external display/keyboard/mouse, will download iPadOS version of the apps installed, then maybe only up to 2-3 apps/windows per stage (from max 4 on iPad and unlimited on Mac) just to not much cannibalize iPadOS/MacOS small market share. Also, iPad-only/ported apps like Final Cut, Logic Pro, DaVinci Resolve won't be available right away.
Apple never gave us a MacOS experience on the iPad that is basically a Mac with a different OS already. Expecting them to give us something like this natively on the iPhone is the same as believing in Santa. I wouldn't be surprised if apple intentionally implemented software limitations so that this kind of app does not work properly.
I agree Apple is more likely to restrict the possibility of this working than encouraging it…
IFKR! There's no point giving M1/M2 chipset on iPad when they're only limited to glorified iOS for tablets.
It would be killer if Apple implements something akin to DeX!
it needs to be smaller than dex, like external ssd, pocketable size. or maybe apple or some 3rd party will create app where dont need hardware. that should be the goal.
I don’t want a ChromeOS type thing, give me the same stage manager from iPad to iPhone when plugged into an external monitor and I’m happy.

@@farishanafiah8461 people might not want to buy an ipad/mac if their phone can use that same desktop os connected to a monitor. Keeping them running on different OSs helps ensure that people are more likely to buy an ipad pro/mac, in addition to already having a phone
Wow a super cut down version of something android has had for 10 years plus now. I’m slowly regretting getting a iPhone 15 pro as my first apple product. Considering the “new” things for this iPhone are things that my old galaxy S8 had. USB c, action button, bit it also had under screen finger print reader, heart rate sensor on back, edge to edge screen and much more that even this latest iPhone don’t have.

Yes Android is the first at most features but rarely the best at any of them.

If iPhone gets proper external display support with a stage manager like experience similar to the iPads, I could see iPhones replacing a laptop or PC for a lot of people who do mostly web-based stuff and don’t need pro applications. Although I could also see pro apps start to be developed for the iPhone as well as the chip should be powerful enough.
it's not profitable for Apple so I doubt it will ever be a reality. The sale of macbook air and some of iPad models will plummete if Apple does this.

@@NashMG iPad will be fine, MacBooks ain’t been doing that great anyways. As fast as iPhones are, people will still need Macs. Also, extended monitors aren’t really touchscreen and they can just not add touchscreen support. Doubt that it’d be that useful anyways lol.
All phones should act as a computer with monitor display functionality but then again they wouldn’t be able to sell us all laptops and a tablets. 🤷♂️

I agree. A company like Google may have more financial incentive to do that, but unfortunately Apple would not be keen on doing that as it could lower their laptop/desktop sales…
As a daily Android Desktop Mode user, I can totally agree with you. I really can't see any reason to get an Android tablet when the phone can give the same experience with Desktop Mode. As for Chromebook, the only reason to get one is because of native desktop Linux support, that's all.

A phone connected to a monitor would not replace my iPad. That has a different function. My iPad does not replace my desktop, different uses. COULD it? Possibly, for some people. I personally would use it for emergencies when away from the office. I wouldn't replace my work desktop in any way. It would also push a user into their ecosystem prodding that user to buy other Apple devices in the future. It is a long term win.
I'd love for Apple to develop a Samsung Dex analogue. It would be wild to be able to run full blown mac apps on an iPhone as well. eg. VS Code or Xcode
This phone+ app, paired with jump desktop or team viewer means this phone can replace my laptop potentially when one needs a full web browser or pc app. If one uses this phone as a gaming device, mp3 player, laptop, desktop, and a smart phone??? That’s a great value! This reminds me of continuum on the windows phone, which was fantastic.

Samsung DEX has been around for years now and has proved to be very useful, expecialy with all those external displays available today. It will be a great day when iPhone/iPad joins this game with native desktop experience support!
I think a tvos like mode would be cool, especially when visiting someone’s house to watch movies from your library, and play local multiplayer games like a Nintendo Switch

Apple can easily put iPadOS Stage Manager on iOS. After all, iPadOS is still a glorified iOS for tablets.

This is literally the iOS equivalent of Android's Taskbar app, which is very useful for phones that has video output support but doesn't have Desktop Mode feature like all Sony flagship phones, Vivo X80 Pro/X90 Pro/X90 Pro+, and Xiaomi 13 Ultra. All it needs now is a lapdock or an AR glass.
Pretty cool... nothing I would have any use for (same with Samsung DeX) but could be very useful for the right person.
Makes me think about shift screen 4x … this app is more a gimmick 🧐 if it s not apple native built in feature, it’ll remain a software performance

Unlikely though since iOS and macOS are not the same thing. Also, even if Apple can port iPadOS Stage Manager to iOS, I still don't think it'll hurt the iPad sales.
This is a pretty cool app. Thanks for sharing. I can see Apple adding this to future versions of iOS. No way the phone could be all end all just not enough power for pro type things
Dex is everything.
Except that it's not a new idea. It came two years after Microsoft launched Continuum for Lumia 950/950 XL. Heck, the idea of smartphone as a PC stretched all the way back to early 2011/2012 with the Motorola Atrix 4G and ASUS Padfone.

Apple should combine this and current iPad stage manager. and add this to the iPhone. But for Ipad, provide a more "Pro Version" and give us better apps or a MacOS lite

The pro iphone can do the work of a macbook Air for 90% of people that use a computer, only if Apple will do it, Samsung is already doing it nicely, it will hit Microsoft like a ton of bricks as they lose market share of casual Windows user.

soon the mobile will be your pc, i look forward to that. i look at how good they already are at games and things. its not long time before we dont need a big pc rack for gaming too. i love the tech moving. and yes i have the most powerful PC. still the size is a little dispointment vs this tiny phones can preform
iOS' lack of a DEX equivalent is one of the two blunders keeping me to buying an iPhone, the other being their lack of split screen.
I say blunder bc at this point this is totally negligence on their management side.

This is the reason why im a samsung user but i would change if studio manager would be released on an iphone. At work I never do any personal tasks on my laptops, I could but choose not to. I simply connect my samsung to the USB dock and use any banking apps, browsing etc on the phone and on cellular, this way it never touches my work network.

I'm frustrated with Apple, particularly around the Ipad. We should be able to buy something like a Studio Display with a keyboard/mouse and dock, and with the power in the iPhones, have the iPhone experience out of dock, and a desktop experience equivalent to AT LEAST iPad/Stage Manager inside the dock. I can't fathom what they are waiting for to basically have your Mac be iPhone sized and portable and an iPhone.

I like the idea to be able to use the smartphone as a light computer, and I wish Apple would be doing this for a long time, but I think it would be much better if :
1. It would be using multi 10 gigabits, low latency wireless docking (like 802.11ay) that could be enabled with connecting to a MagSafe wireless charging dock
2. It should be using iPadOS when in computer mode
However, at this time, Apple is unlikely to push forward with this kind of idea for several reasons like it is a bit of a geek functionality, and it could decrease overall revenue (as some customers may not buy a Mac computer,…).
All that said, if Apple would nonetheless decide to go forward with the idea, I really, really, really wish it to be done wirelessly…

The InfiniteX2P is still buggy when used on an IPHONE. Jump Remote now lets me use the External Monitor better than InfiniteX2P.

This alone might make me switch from Samsung to I Phone. I am a Dex Junkie because of business needs. I work with a NexDoc which is like a laptop but is actually an external display with battery and keyboard. Your phone is the PC. My word to Apple is "Fully support this app or make your own!" #appleinnovation 🙂

The app is there to make Desktop Mode experience more bearable, but you're still right. After all, you can also do it with any AR glasses.
My Samsung S20 could do this 3 years ago.
Nice! It's a crappy, crippled version of Samsung DeX! I love that Apple refuses to let iPhones be desktops, so that I can't use it as an all-in-one device!

Iphone can tun Mac OS without any issue, even for Photoshop or Final cut, but apple won't never want it before other (microsoft, google) threaten on that functionnality.
iOS and macOS are not the same thing. Apple don't bring Photoshop and Final Cut to iOS. This is nothing more than having iPadOS on your iPhone.

They could easily do this but...
I've always thought this was a great feature, but apple will never be the one to implement it. Their entire business revolves around getting people into their ecosystem and buying as many of their different devices as possible. Their tech always complements each other, never replaces. And with the iCloud account, everything is synced across devices so the one device solution isn't as lucrative.

Theoretically, yes it should. When I tested on my iPad mini 6, it worked fine.

@@farishanafiah8461 Just because it needed an adapter doesn't mean it didn't have the functionality. It's like early days of computing where joysticks and of HIDs would work but needed an adapter. And we got an entire PC gaming industry out of these adapters. That didn't stop them and a simple adapter shouldn't have stopped us now

It’s inevitable, look how many other things our “cell phones” have replaced. With their release of VR I think apple has already accounted for a “pivot” in tech.
