I am in love with all these tutorials! I have only been skating for around 10 months but I have learnt so much from your channel (probably more than what I learn from the group lessons I do). Thank You, Coach Julia! I'll make sure to try these out next time I'm on the ice!

Julia, I think hockey players will also like this exercise. Keeping balance is so important on ice.

Exellent exercise again, Coach Julia. Our rink just opened last week so this is very suitable to begin the season.

Hi Coach, you do have nice gluts and a testament to your HIIT exercises on ice! I learned to do your Curtsey Lunges to stay on iE inside edges for the most part. Artistry, props posture smiling during a performance will also help seal the deal. HIIT is intense as advertised, Thanks Coach Julia!

I love your videos! You explain everything in detail and make it easy to understand. Thank you! I skated as a child and now am returning to the ice after many, many years, so your videos are very informative and inspiring!

Hi Julia thanks for this. . Several non-adult figure skaters at my go to rink do not spend time on such exercises so I am grateful that you are pointing this out coming from you it means alot. This first time I ever heard of this word "curtsey" is that a person that created this lunge or ?

Curtsey is the 'feminine' word for a bow. Imagine the bow at the end of a program!

Ooh HIIT! I love HIIT. Should be fun to do at the rink, which happens to be just tomorrow!
    Now, my weekly skating share…
I’ve been progressing backwards the past 2 weeks. Biggest reason being that public sessions were limited to skating around the tracks for some stupid accident that happened a few weeks ago. But also because I just suck.
Last Friday, I started class with a few slips doing crossovers. (Hasn’t happened for a while) Showed a little bit of progress with spins, and a little more progress with Salchows that actually “wowed” another coach that likes to peek into our class every now and then. After that, everything went downhill. Really labored to get a few barely passable toe loops and loops, then crashed the next 40 minutes doing flips. It was like when I crashed every toe loop for 2 hours. Different thing this time was that I actually thought about staying down…Wanted to cry…Couldn’t even attempt lutzes nor axels before time was up. Coach seemed pretty disappointed and frustrated, told me I’m not putting in enough efforts to keep up. Says that if the rink doesn’t allow on ice practice, then do off ice practice which she could see clearly that I wasn’t doing lately.
My analogy on figure skating, at least for jumps, is that figure skating is like raising 6 kids. 3 boys (edge jumps) and 3 girls (tor jumps). At least 2 kids are going to act up on any given day. Once I attend to the 2 and get them to calm down, others will act up in their place. The only one you can trust is the oldest kid (waltz) until that kid decides it’s time to become a teenager (axel)…

Oh my gosh. I am so sorry that this new policy is giving you so much trouble. I wish you could get out onto a freestyle session. Thank you so much for the analogy! That analogy was so great! I have never heard it before and it gave me a chuckle, but also is so real.

@@CoachJuliaGot back from the rink. Thankfully, the ban has been relieved a bit. Now, we can practice when the central part (inside of the tracks) is empty. But when there is a class going on, that part of the ice remains strictly prohibited.
Still couldn’t get my flips back, but at least toe loops and loops are pretty much back to where they used to be. Especially the loops…did 3 straight clean ones and coach said she’s got nothing to comment on them except that’s exactly how loop jumps are supposed to be done. 😊 Flips were better than last week, but still couldn’t land anything clean. BUT, I think I got a whole new feel for the jump. I don’t know if this is the correct way to do the flip jump, but it felt as if I was already in a back spin position before takeoff. That way, the mid air posture becomes very tall and straight, with just the pulling in of the arms (and absolutely nothing else) creating rotational force. At least coach liked it and wants me to practice just that and forget the arms for now…

@@yjchoi17 the loop, flip, lutz and Axel all have back spin air positions, so it sounds like you are on the right track.
