This just happened to me today. Thanks Joy for thoroughly describing the fix, and on a Mac environment too which is what I have. Great content as always.

dsvilla Yikes! Have you updated to the latest 42.x version? I haven’t had this issue since I updated.

Hi Tesla Joy, no I haven’t gotten the update yet. I seem to be very behind on software updates, don’t know why but my guess is I’m not connected to wi-fi. The car is parked at home in an underground lot where wi-fi doesn’t reach. But it’s good to know a software update will deal with this issue. That’s what I love about the car, it will actually improve over time!

dsvilla I see. My coworker doesn’t have WiFi in her garage either and she got the update. I would call Tesla service and ask the update be pushed to you citing these issues. My other friend got his update that way.

Just as a reminder, it’s not that you just have to stop recording before you remove the drive. You must stop recording before you exit the car, even if you are leaving the drive in the car.

Thank you for the reminder Rod! Hopefully Tesla will fix this because most of us won’t remember to do that. 😊 Please subscribe to this channel if you haven’t already. Thanks again!

Did Tesla updated the DashCamp feature? Do we need to stop the recording prior to removing the USB? Also, what if delete the video files from the "SavedClips" or "RecentClips" folder - do we need to reformat the disk again? Thanks for the video!

Latin Dance Factory Great questions! Yes Tesla has enhanced dash cam feature since I did this video to also record from the two side cameras (right & left repeaters). You should still stop recording prior to removing USB just to be safe. And I don’t believe you need to reformat the drive if you delete those folders because they are automatically created for you once dash cam sees action. Just make sure you have a “teslacam” folder on that USB drive and you should be good to go.

@@TeslaJoy Still very broken. I cant play any of the files the stupid camera writes, it's a useless feature.

That sucks! Have you tried switching to a micro SD card that writes faster to the drive? I’ve not had issues with it.

Hello Joy, do you know the camera on the side fender is recorded?
If yes, how long it will last?
Just want to know if the Tesla is recorded so the owner can request the video and check if someone messes up with the car.

Ravouth Srey Great question. This video was made before Sentry Mode became available. Now dash cam will record from side cameras as well called “repeaters.” When you have Sentry Mode on, dashcam will record activities around your car as soon as it’s triggered. I believe the footage lasts for 10 minutes which is plenty of time catching the incident. You can check out the footage later on your computer by plugging the USB thumb drive into it. Hope this helps.

I put a fresh 32GB stick in the car that had just had a full FAT32 format with 32K size and TeslaCam folder in the car and got the grey x. pulled it out and did the check for Windows errors and no errors found. Anyone with ideas on what is wrong?

Interesting...maybe the stick is full? I know when it's full it will give you that grey x.
