El Museo del Barrio and I collaborated to create this educational video art piece, sponsored by Bloomberg Connects, with the intention of highlighting Yucahu, the supreme entity of Taino spirituality. The Taino collection at the museum is a treasure trove of archaeological artifacts. Among the many fascinating items on display is a beautifully carved stone cemi with three points, which is a source of inspiration for this collaboration.
The purpose of this short film is also to foster a stronger connection and understanding with the cemi Yucahu by means of ritual practices. Its ultimate goal is to help integrate indigenous spirituality and its traditions into our identity and daily lives, thus contributing to the preservation and enrichment of ancestral knowledge and wisdom.
This video art piece features Taino rituals that are still being practiced in Kiskeya. These rituals were passed down by my teachers from the deep Dominican southwest. They include the late Reyna Alejandro Jimenez, keeper of the Liborio Mateo Calvary in San Juan de la Maguana, the late León Rodriguez, also known as El Mellizo de Palma Sola, who was one of the leaders of this spiritual movement, and Colasa Beltré from Azua, whose family has been passing down an agricultural taino ritual from generation to generation.

El Museo del Barrio y yo colaboramos para crear esta pieza de videoarte educativo, patrocinada por Bloomberg Connects, con la intención de resaltar a Yucahu, la entidad suprema de la espiritualidad taína. La colección taína del museo es un tesoro escondido de artefactos arqueológicos. Entre los muchos elementos fascinantes que se exhiben se encuentra este cemi de piedra bellamente tallado con tres puntas, y que fue la fuente de inspiración para esta colaboración.
El propósito de este cortometraje es también fomentar una conexión y un entendimiento más fuerte con el cemi Yucahu a través de prácticas rituales. Su objetivo final es ayudar a integrar la espiritualidad indígena y sus tradiciones a nuestra identidad y vida cotidiana, contribuyendo así a la preservación y enriquecimiento de los conocimientos y sabidurías ancestrales.
Esta pieza de videoarte presenta rituales taínos que todavía se practican en Kiskeya. Estos rituales me fueron transmitidos por mis maestros del sur profundo dominicano. Entre ellos se encuentran la fallecida Reyna Alejandro Jiménez, guardiana del Liborio Mateo Calvario en San Juan de la Maguana, el fallecido León Rodríguez, también conocido como El Mellizo de Palma Sola, quien fue uno de los líderes de este movimiento espiritual, y Colasa Beltré de Azua, cuya familia ha ido transmitiendo un ritual agrícola taíno de generación en generación.

Hay muchos vídeos de los taínos de borinken que no mencionan a los de kiskeya. No tiene nada de malo enfocarnos más . There’s an array of videos on RUclips about the borinken. Most of them don’t mentioned DR. This video is focus on the kiskeya.
