Very well said. If Jimmy ANF the audience weren’t laughing thinking Sean doesn’t understand the game, Jon may have had a chance of working out it was a bluff. But because (as you say) he fooled everyone else, Jon got sucked in. Very very clever Sean.
Sean Lock’s bluff was so deep that we couldn’t even tell he was the only one of the three to support playing this game in the pitch meeting. Jimmy and Jon both shrugged and Sean said “let’s do it” (source Jimmy Carr interview on his channel)
That's actually shocking for a completely separate reason. This means that Jon literally knew that Sean already knew the rules from the pitch meeting... so either all three of them were bluffing all of us or Sean managed to bluff Jon so completely that Jon forgot that Sean already knew it was a bluffing game... or perhaps the description at the pitch meeting wasn't very complete.

He'd have still played dumb and called it a stupid game, the only difference being he'd be adamant about swapping his box for Jon's right off the bat to bluff that his box isn't the one with the carrot in, thereby making Jon want to swap back once it's his turn. In either scenario, Jon would assume that Sean isn't playing the game seriously.

Would like to see again but with Jon leading.... Can Jon bluff Sean?
@@vince8901 ruclips.net/video/7USlIrLQ7Dw/видео.html
He'd have still played dumb and called it a stupid game, the only difference being he'd be adamant about swapping his box for Jon's right off the bat to bluff that his box isn't the one with the carrot in, thereby making Jon want to swap back once it's his turn. In either scenario, Jon would assume that Sean isn't playing the game seriously.
RIP Sean. So much laughter and joy you brought to the world. I've lost count of the times I've rewatched these clips and enjoy them more and more.
RIP Sean Lock, what a sad day. We should all cherish the comedic brilliance captured on video for us to all enjoy for years to come.

R.I.P Sean Lock, one of the funniest people ever in comedy
These three guys together were a dream team and Sean was pure magic. Losing him hurts. R.I.P. Sean
One of the great comedy performances in history. Rest in peace mate, you've earned it.
I can't believe he's gone. He was so full of life.
What a legend. The world will miss him, so so good! Sean Lock the best to ever to do it like him
As epitaphs to comedy greatness go, this little piece of genius sums it up; his quick wit, his comic timing and his razor-sharp intelligence. RIP Sean Lock.
Sean was my favourite on the show alongside John. I’ve rewatched this clip several times and there’s something really magical about it. Sean, has literally got me through some dark times since he always puts a smile on my face. Even after his passing, he’s still doing it and I will continue to watch his clips when I’m feeling down. I thank God for Sean, and wish his family all the best during this extremely difficult time.
The hand in the box sold the whole idea that Sean had the carrot...
First time I'm watching this with tears of sadness rather than joy. I'm devastated. Sean, you will always be a legendary comedian and, more importantly, THE Carrot in a Box champion. What an incredible talent. He'll be hugely missed.
Here's a little lesson in trickery
This moment is going down in history
The reaching in was flipping genius. And he did it with such intent, we are sure he's going to grab a carrot.
If ever I need cheering up, this does it no matter how many times I watch it. Pure genius. What a great loss to us all. Miss you Sean
Saw the news and came here immediately. RIP Sean, your dry humour was as English as it gets
RIP Sean. Comedy is better for having you. One of the funniest blokes I've ever had the pleasure to watch. Rest well
Had to come here after hearing about his passing . Legend absolute legend R.I.P .
I discovered 8/10 cats on YT about 8yrs ago! Always thought Shawn was brilliant. I post this clip n send it to friends every year for Christmas since 2yrs b4 his passing. RIP Kind sir from across the pond, what a beautiful mind n soul!
A moment as iconic and genius as the man himself. Still can't believe it.
RIP Sean - Thanks for all the laughs ❤️
RIP Sean Lock, one of the greatest comedians. He will be missed
Every Christmas I think about playing this, and every year I just think it would never be as good as this moment.
Rip Sean Lock, one the best comedians I've had the joy of seeing live
As someone living miles away Sean Lock was my instant favourite when I started watching the RUclips clips of this show for hours. All I wanted was to meet him personally once. Some dreams never come true. Rest in peace, wherever you are. Thank you for making us laugh in both life and death.
The genius bluffing skills Sean displays here are IMO unmatched! Everything matches the idea he has the carrot; the reaching in, the overwhelm by the stupidity of the game, the uncontrollable laughter, and his intonation at the question whether he wants to keep the box or not! Even Jimmy was convinced he had the carrot and so was everyone else! Amazing stuff and the release when everyone found out he had them all fooled was almost palpable! So good!! Thank you Sean for sharing your sense of humor with the rest of the world! I bet heaven is a freaking riot ever since you passed! Thanks mate!!
It's when he twirls his imaginary moustache at the end. RIP you legend.
He was actually the best part of the show, rip Sean Lock, you will be missed
So sad to hear the news of his death. Sean, you brought so much laughter and happiness into my life. Truly one of the greatest comedians to ever live. RIP :(
Jon doesn't get nearly enough credit. 3:10 He recognized there was at least a chance Sean was pulling off a brilliant bluff when literally nobody else even had an inkling. Plus his deadpan "Yeah, I can't wait to win this carrot" was great.
I've watched this many times and laughed so hard every time. SEAN was an absolute genius. Thanks for all the wonderful time you've given us Sean. You will always be remembered. RIP
This game was epic, but the rematch was even better. Sean Lock is a Master.
I can't find the episode
@@chattycathydoll That is the same clip
chattycathydoll amazing thank you for that rollercoaster of laughter. Loved it.
The second one is good too, but c'mon now, this is easily the best!
@@gnack420 In the rematch, Sean literally gives Jon everything to redeem himself. But when he realizes, that Jon just can't take the hint, he stays silent with pitiful compassion, while Jon makes a fool of himself. It is amazing. This first one is an entertaining showcase of skill, but the second one is it's own universe of comic content.
RIP Sean. This will always be one of my favourite comedy moments ever.
RIP One of the funniest comedians the UK has ever produced, will be missed
I'm just gonna say that in the event that humanity perishes and this clip is the only proof of our existence to a futuristic alien race then I would not mind one bit.
What a legend. RIP Sean Lock.
Once a year, I have to come in and watch this. RIP Sean.
So you watched it 3 times, ok.
Came back here when I heard the news, one of my favourite clips from any panel show, has me in stitches every time. RIP Sean, you'll be sorely missed 😭
I mean this with the greatest respect, if Sean is buried in a coffin it would only be right that a carrot is in there with him too. RIP Sean Lock.
No, we need to grant his wish of spreading his ashes on Piers Morgan's eyes.
All joking aside, what a devastating loss.
I also mean this with the greatest of respect, if Sean is buried in a coffin it would be only right that there is another coffin beside him that's empty. RIP Sean Lock
Only Sean knows if there's a carrot in his box.
When Jon dies, they have to swap coffins to honour this moment.
RIP Sean, legendary in every sense of the word
I come back here every so often to enjoy the pure genius of this game and also sean. Rip big man, you were the smartest and funniest man taken far too soon. If you have not seen part 2 you are in for a treat
Every single line delivered perfectly at the perfect time, judging the reaction of people involved . Genius .
One of the funniest moments on this show, I was in stitches
Had to come here after hearing about the loss, RIP Sean, thanks for all the laughs over the time, some of the greatest moments on tv were at your hands.
RIP Sean. One of the greatest comedy minds there's ever been. Such a massive loss 💔
This is seriously one of the greatest pieces of comedy. It's Sean Lock's legacy. I think it'll be remembered as one of the greats.
RIP Sean. This might be one of the greatest bluffs I've ever seen.
One of the greatest hustles ive ever seen
You have to watch this a couple of times to appreciate how GENIUS Sean is
Jon knows when to play the straight man, and did it perfectly here.
How dare you. Jon could never play the straight man.
I have seen you comment this before. Get a life
@@AJ-cv9zf ?
Couldn't agree more. Whether or not he actually fell for it is besides the point. It's brilliant TV
I have watched this clip about 15 times over the past 3 years. When I read that Sean had passed I genuinely felt deflated. He really was brilliant.
Just heard about Sean.
Cannot believe it! Discovered him this last year and became major fan…
A sad farewell from 🇵🇹
