  • Turkey tail mushroom is a type of medicinal mushroom harvested around the world. It grows on the dead bark of hardwood trees and resembles a turkey tail with distinctive stripes in hues of brown, grey, tan and white. The turkey tail mushroom has a thick, leathery texture that makes it unpleasant to eat in its whole form. Instead, it’s typically consumed in the form of powder or tea.
    Turkey tail mushrooms have a lengthy history in traditional Eastern medicine and are known for their immune system benefits. In traditional Chinese medicine, turkey tail mushroom is often brewed into a tea to fight infections, strengthen the immune system and boost energy. You can also find turkey tail mushrooms in a host of dietary supplement products, including capsules and tinctures.

    Interesting, It's rainy season in Ghana. I walked past a large tree trunk covered in Turkey tails. Nature way seems so organic and when we do it become so sterilized. I'm very interested in the medicinal properties and adding this to my creations..

      Thats because we are trying to mimic what we see in nature.. In nature that turkey tail would of been eating and beating many times over in nature.. many turkey tail mushrooms dont fruit because of competition.. we do sterilzed to up our chances of our goal.

    I'm wanting to make my own medicinal mushroom capsules. What are the best practices to pack the most from the mushrooms into a pill or powder form? Simply dehydrating or some other extraction process? I was hoping to avoid too much use of alcohol if possible.

    • @thlionnesss
      @thlionnesss 3 месяца назад

      Alcohol extraction is not necessary with Turkey Tail, Shiitake & Maitake. For these mushrooms it’s the Beta Glucans which hold the most medicine. Simply simmer them for a few hours, blend into a slurry the consistency of applesauce, dehydrate & powder.
      For more info I highly recommend the book: CHRISTOPHER HOBBS'S MEDICINAL MUSHROOMS THE ESSENTIAL GUIDE.

    • @SporenSprout
      @SporenSprout  Год назад +1

      Either your substrate is not fully sterilized or you introduce contamination while transferring colonized grain into the substrate. That part really needs a good flow hood to have better chances. But it is really just a race against contamination and it does win in the end.

      Yes you can put it back in the fruiting chamber and it will grow from the same spots or you can cut new spots. You can dunk the block in water for 2-4 hours to rehydrate it if it feels light.

      2-3 weeks to colonize the grain at 75F. You can get 3-6 flushes. Correct time to harvest is visual. They will grow a couple inches wider than in my video and can be harvested whenever at that point.
