Used to listen to 100 Broken Windows over & over on cassette tape circa 2000! :) Brings back happy memories. Think I saw them live 6 times, every gig was rocking!
I have just finished reading "teach yourself Marx". I spotted something quite interesting that relates to this song Strawberry. Henry Marcuse was a student and philosopher of the Frankfurt school (A school of Marxist thought) and he wrote the book "One dimensional man". He believed that thought becomes one-dimensional as critical thinking and opposition are leached away by consumerist society. The video shows the band living in mindless repetition. Ahhh there's not enough room for letters..
@sinnerbox great tune and im the same was one of my first few singles, however on the keyboards you might not of noticed its potentially a dig at pop cultures ribs, which is the theme anyway... just a wooden idea though :)
I am confused about this video. What are those things flying around and out the room and what's up with the dog? Does anyone know the meaning behind it?
Woody Woodlice they completely sound like REM. Roddy even sounds like Michael Stipe at many times. Even he knows they sound like REM...it’s not a coincidence...i think it’s what they were going for. I think this song is one of the clearest examples of the similarity. Not an exact copy of anything, just the influence is totally there. Like, listen to Losing My Religion after this.
@@weaselhead100 Only just seen your reply, can't believe you don't think they sound like REM, or at least this song definitely does, play it someone who knows REM but not intimately and i bet they'll never know the difference.
@@sunshaped Glad someone agrees, in fact I'd say this is one of REM's best songs lol. Think it has something to do with the twin vocals like Stipe and his guitarist with the higher voice, also the sound of the guitar, this is like the era of "The end of the world" and "Fire" oh and definitely "Orange Krush(?)"
Red Guerilla definitely, to all of that! In fact they were literally just saying this during a listening party on Twitter yesterday for this album, which i caught up with earlier. Both Roddy and Rod (singer and guitarist) said how much Rod’s harmonies and guitar work were similar to those of Mike Mills. When a fan commented that the song they were listening to at the time..i think it was Mistake Pageant...sounded a bit like REM, Rod said “ A LOT like REM” haha
@@leecarterreppinjesuschrist7686 yep dude that trio of albums is a strong as any band of that era, personally I go the remote part best followed by 100 broken windows
vk m listen to Losing my Religion after this. If you don’t hear REM influence in Idlewild, then i’ve no idea what else to say, lol. They purposely sounded like REM.
I think this is by far their best song. Its really uplifting

If R.E.M., Bush and Dire Straits had a baby:
Not many rock songs about Baudrillardian postmodernism.
Enjoyable that if you search this song title you also get furniture adverts.
🤣👍🏻

yeah, I don't know why they removed the talking bit. I do have a copy of the talking one, but it's pretty bad quality.
totally agree ^^

Man, been trying to remember the name of this band for ages, so glad i found it. Forgot how much they sound like REM tho lol
Are you quoting someone else? I have never understood that comparison. Idlewild sound nothing like REM to me.
