I saw the video as this: The boy knows this girl, she's new, and pretty, and thoughtful and kind of dangerous and fun. She's perfect to him. He tries smoking because she influences him to do it; he drives her places; they hang out, and slowly, he falls in love with her. Now, here's where it starts getting heavy. They're in the church, something seen as "good" or "pure" to the general public. But to the girl, it's a playground. She doesn't want to be serious, and she doesn't want a serious relationship. But the boy doesn't know that, of course. In the "forced kiss" and "pillow fight" scenes, I think that symbolizes that he was too serious and made the girl highly uncomfortable. So the girl leaves him, as mysterious and sinister as red mist. I think that the jungle/shrubbery means that he's alone and has to fend for himself now, and the empty/barren apartment building means that the girl is completely gone from his view.

+Evelyn Tittel I think you're right. In the beginning of the video, the boy has his serious look. But then, the girl, with a huge and unserious smile, starts touching his lips and makes him laugh out loud. Here you can also see the differences between the two (serious and not serious) and the effect of the girl on the boy (she makes him happy with her way of making fun with him)

I think I can explain the story. I believe it is a story of unrequited love. The boy is evidently infatuated with the girl and has been for a long time. The girl on the other hand, views the boy only as a close friend. The last scene in which the boy is attempting to kiss the girl and the play fight in which he 'smothers' her is paralleled, is a representation of how he has attempted to capture her love (pillow over her head and bending down to kiss her), but as a result, has smothered or cornered and put her into a position which she does not want to be in (walking away from his kiss, struggling in the play fight. Now the boy must 'burn all the bridges' he created to form his love for her.

Ok this is a long stretch, but after watching this video a ton of times I get the impression that it goes like this:
They are friends and have a super cute chemistry and complicity. The boy is obviously infatuated with her, and she seems to like him too (although not as much or she's a bit confused)... In the beginning she is acting flirty as much as he is.
Then comes the twist (that I might be inventing in my mind), but the way she reacts in the two occasions when he is either trying to kiss her or he's on top of her playfully restraining her... she's doesn't act awkward or nervous; but she becomes super upset. And that makes me think that she's had past experiences in which someone tried to abuse her.
So although he is a friend and she maybe likes him, his actions triggered a negative reaction and even fear.

@Adalgrim Took i think i have discovered something, i am quoting here a previous comment of mine "At first i thought it was just friendzone, but the second time i saw it i started analyzing all the frames, and this shit has a really strange meaning, First The red color has been used in almost every sequence, she is wearing a red coat, she takes a red elevator. Second they seem to be in love all the time, but at the end she refuses him,that's what i saw the first time but now i see that the sequence where he tries to kiss her and the sequence where he tries to kill her with the pillow and the evil face on are showed at the same time, after she saves herself from the pillow her face seems to tell us that she has understood something. Third You have vampires and witches, they both act as vampires at the end of the video and the song says "burning all the witches", and considering the view from the window they seem to be at the last floor of the building, and this will be useful in the fourth point. Fourth After being refused he sees an open door with red lights, he follows the light and enters the door and he finds tropical plants and smoke and he doesn't seem to be sad, at the end you see a drone clip climbing up and showing some perfectly lined red doors in vertical going up to the sky, but since they were at the last floor you should imagine this scene backwards, so going down from the last floor to the ground and that's where the red doors end, so that for me maybe means he is, or turned during the video in some kind of demon and she realized, he then got offered the possibility to go to hell underground to serve the evil lord." Tell me what you think
Yeah sorry, my mistake, btw i discovered something else, in the elevator scene, there is a 6 on the inside of the door when she is facing him, there's a 6 on the outside of the door when he is facing her, and there is a 6 on the door's glass... that makes 666.. conclusion is up to you.

This is such subtle and skilled story telling. The girl makes the guy step out of his shell and do things he hasn't done before and as long as she's in control she's happy. She's the matador. But as soon as he rears his teeth and tries to overpower her or be her equal, she leaves and he's left wandering into the unknown with his newfound personality.

Could be crazy, but I've put this song curiously on my phone the last day before my trip in Thailand and the really first time that I listened this lovely music I was in the plane by night looking at Bangkok city. And you know what? I think the ending is 2 different point of views. in his mind kissing her will show her he loves her. but in her mind he's smothering her and trying to take things to fast when she just wants to have fun. but it's not fair because she lead him on. and he finally worked up the courage and she left him .... its sad
I take it she *was* interested, 0:55, but he got frustrated they weren't on the same page yet and took things a little too far too quickly and she rightly felt put off by that. So she wasn't leading him on, he was just being too impatient with her.

Loved this video for 8 years now and I just travelled to Zambia in Africa and the guy is wearing the Zambian flag....the first scene. :)
I am surprised so many people are missing it. The plot is so clear, and it's not mysterious. The lyrics perfectly back it up too. The boy is infatuated, and the girl reciprocates to an extent....but she obviously has past trauma. Having personally experienced PTSD and trauma, this is how survivors act. They want to trust, but little things can bring back the need to flee or not trust, no matter who it is.
Broods does remind me a lot of Lorde that's why I like them so much, there are a lot of similarities with how they make their videos. This video reminds me of lordes 'team' video. Am I the only one??
