    Cannot wait to try some Pappy Van Winkle. My wife and I toured the Buffalo Trace Distillery in KY about three years ago and loved it. The best bourbon lineup of them all.

    I live in Louisville, KY and grew up in Shively (6th class city adjacent to Louisville in same county).Shively is the home of the Stitzel-Weller distillery that Julian speaks of. I had an afternoon paper route with a friend as a young teenager that included the Stitzel-Weller distillery (was then called Old Fitzgerald by the late 1970's). We would sell extra papers to the 2nd shift staff at the front gates off Fitzgerald Road. The aroma's and smells coming out of the area were unreal. Also remember there were several tobacco warehouses in the area so the aroma's would co-mingle.. I miss it very much.. Bulleit Bourbon has purchased the Stitzel-Weller distillery recently (i believe starting in 2014). My first apartment post college was one street removed from Pappy's home on Valley road. the house was and still is amazing.. Julian's sister writes about it in the book...

    I've never heard of Van Winkle before until I went into a local liquor store & asked the cashier what his most expensive alcohol was? He said 10 years of Van Winkle about 650 bucks.. I was surprised a local liquor store had something hat expensive so I was curious to find out about it! I've researched and read about it. It surely does sound like the greatest tasting old whiskey company I've ever heard of. And I'm now eager to have my own collection of Van Winkle's from now on. This company actually deserves more to be known, if they are able to mass produce, I say it is a MUST to make this company known with a bunch of honest advertisements! I mean the quality sells itself so it'll just be an extra boost to make an advertisement about it! In my opinion, this company will become a top competitor if not the one & only competitor in the Whiskey world & the whole alcohol market. It would eventually become half a billion dollar company or maybe more! Just because it's that special, it just has to be brought out with the right & honest kind of advertisement in order to become known worldwide as a top competitor brand! But in order to do that, they need to mass produce, so the whole world can finally be fit from it & so will we every season rather then hunting for em around October to December times.. I would be a really appreciated & permanent customer if that ever tends to happen!!

    I had the opportunity to drink a glass of Pappy 23 at my uncle's house on Christmas eve a few years ago. He waited until everyone else left and it was only him, my dad and me. They poured me a glass with 1 large ice cube inside. They taught me the "Kentucky chew". To smell it first then take a drink and hold it on your tongue. It was the best whiskey I've ever had! My dad also had a few bottles of Old Rip Van Winkle 12 year at his house we drank a few times.

    great video !!!! was great to know about the Pappys bourbon from no less than Julian Van Winkle III, only thing kind make me think twice was @7:15 when he said " he is total against raising the price but nothing they can do after they sell it to a retailer "I disagree, they can take a note on who is doing this and not sell to them again, its simple, of course, if THEY WANT IT but at the moment its what its and like He said take time to make a bigger production but soon it will have enough, this video was from 6y ago so who knows, maybe next year 2020!!! cheers!!

      Lucky Luciano, they are 3 people removed from the price gougers. They sell to distribution centers like Glaziers and republic for a price. The distributors sell to stores and bars for a price. Those stores then sell for whatever price they want. The bottle had already been sold twice before it ever gets to the buyers hand.

    I would say keep an eye on the Old Rip Van Winkle website for special events they are holding. We also hold different events like these at regular intervals, but it sounds like you are a bit far from RI! We do ship to VA...let us know if you would like a Pappy alternative; we carry the most complete selection of Bourbons available in Rhode Island. Email or call us (see the video description). Thanks!

      If you havent found your answer in 7 years, then here ya go: Non-pappy whiskey, 2 splashes of bitters, and a couple of teaspoons of simple syrup. A slice of orange peel. On the rocks, usually.

      In an episode of "Mind of a chef", he not only gives a tour of the buffalo trace distillery, he also shows the proper way to make an old fashioned. Best way probably is neat or maybe with a drop or two of water but cocktails are still good. No sense in using bad bourbon for a cocktail, neither.

    • @contrabandjoe7974
      @contrabandjoe7974 8 лет назад +2

      That Line is BS.. if your gonna mix a cocktail and cut the bourbon with any number of mixes, you might as well use the cheapest stuff you can find... mixing bourbon dilutes and cuts the individual taste profile.....

    Unfortunately, at 60 years old I'll never be able to even taste this Bourbon. I don't have the cash to buy off my local liquor store like the millionaire asshole who bought all three available bottles. Oh I could purchase a bottle at auction for $1,200 if I could afford it.

      I wouldnt be so sure you'll never be able to try it. The best way is to find a raffle or event at a store. If you win you can buy one for retail price. You just have to be lucky!
