Big, comfy, fat tyred, non s-line estate diesel car. Somehow the most rational choice of vehicle for a family guy is an endangered species. #thegreatsuvcon
The A6 has been an underappreciated sweet spot in the Audi range for a long time. Big but not too big, comfy, sharp enough to drive, well built and cheap to run. The C7 was ok but the C6 and this newest C8 are excellent. You can get a nice C6 gen for peanuts now and it will tick the same boxes as this if you're on a low budget.
Wow, best car !!! very impressed, I purchased a used A6 V6 Top trim with low mileage, one owner with all service records plus one more year of Audi Warranty left on it, for a bargain price, very happy with my purchase, such a nice car.
I bought an '03 used 15k mile A6 Estate 1.9tdi 140 manual back 2005. Good car. Ran it up to 195k miles with camping trips to France & 80mile daily commutes. Easily averaged 55-60mpg. Replaced it with a used 2010 Superb Elegance Estate CR170 DSG. Even better. Now I have a 2016 Superb 280 L&K 4 x 4 Estate. Better still (apart for the fuel consumption). As you can probably tell I like estate cars. Wagons rule!
@@motorpoint I've seen that car. Awesome conversion but a tad pricy££. My Superb 280 has a Revo +80bhp stage 1 ECU upgrade for 360bhp total (insurance declared) which is cheap to do & plenty quick enough for me. The ultimate sleeper car. 👍
I rented a very similar A6 last year, close to base spec, no fancy sporty visual stuff, but it did have the 40 TDI quattro - and I loved it! Such a good car. The engine, gearbox and all wheel drive are such a nice combination. Gives you a lot of confidence when you press the gas pedal a bit more, and still did 5.4 liters per 100 km on our winter ski holiday to the Norwegian mountains, fully packed with luggage and three passengers. Highly recomended!
Audi is fantastic for mpg. Today I drove from Aylesbury to Glasgow in my A5 2.0 petrol (bought at Motorpoint, btw) and averaged 58.2 mpg at a constant 70 mph. Outstanding. The A6 is on my shortlist come April, when I'll be looking to change.
Why i keep watching state car reviews...after buying a Q5 Hybrid (and also a Sq5🤭) ??? Because i miss my old Škoda Suber Combi soo much...great family car, spacious inside and after some time i could drive and park just like a Opel Corsa😅. This A6 generation will be missed a lot.
Great review, all the reasons why I will be upgrading to an A6 Avant this year, however I will be looking at the S Line TFSI model lol, preferably the quatro awd 45 TFSI if I can, not many used low mileage ones on the market
Its close relation the VW Passat estate is more practical due to the more upright tailgate design. Means you can load tall items more or less right up to the lip. I do realise however that the Audi backend needs more of an angle due ‘its image’. 😉
True, but (this is nerdy), the A6 does ride better than a Passat thanks to various things - it's also on a 'more expensive' platform than a Passat (MQB for the Passat, MLB Evo for the A6). I can't believe I'm typing that. But you're right about more space! -Tim
I had virtually the same economy figures from my Q5 40tdi so I think the argument about them being more economical than SUVs is a bit of an out of date argument. They are both big heavy cars and I suspect the extra wind resistance doesn’t make much difference at normal daily 40-70 mph speeds. It just depends whether you want a longer car or a higher driving position.
I have the 530d from a few years earlier. Similar sort of thing. Comfy, fast, very economical, practical, good visibility, rides excellent, drives excellent... I'm sure the A6 is just as good
Great review I have exactly the same car in saloon, agree with everything you say, my only reservation is the 18 inch wheels slightly let it down, 19 inch ones would look much nicer…
I have a 72 plate S Line Black Edition saloon. Good car but: 20 inch wheels can be jarring over bumpy roads so the smaller ones will obviously provide a better ride. Worst of all is the lights. Because of the worldwide supply chain issues, Audi skimped on the 2022 models and the lights are a cheap and nasty version of what is available now and pre covid. You will notice that the headlight indicators are actually bulbs and not LED. The rear lights don’t light up from the side again, as the pre and pst covid ones do. Really annoying that Audi did this given the cost of the car but overall I’m happy with it.
I would have a new car, but there are none I can find that I like that has not got a touchscreen stuck in the middle of the dash, just plain unsafe , exactly the same as using a mobile phone while driving, so sticking with my A6 allroad bitdi for the foreseeable.
Motorpoint : Tim Rodie....why did you fall in love with a car that has numerous outside, inside and countless engine issues ? Come on....even Redriven have made a video about its countless flaws !!!!
@@motorpoint aha, sure, now, because it doesn't cater to your choice, it's doom preaching....but if it were a different car, which you don't like, then it would be believable. I couldn’t agree more. I love this car as well. Especially with the V6 Diesel. Maybe even a bit more than the previous gen 5 series

I've just had a go in Skoda UK's 477hp Superb L&K 4x4 Estate. It's quite something, and I love the Superb as it is! It's, erm… quite quick -Tim

For most people a wagon is the most practical kind of car. Too bad they are out of fashion.
Great review I have exactly the same car in saloon, agree with everything you say, my only reservation is the 18 inch wheels slightly let it down, 19 inch ones would look much nicer…
Only having 4 pot options in such a large barge should be a crime
My next upgrade after it becomes time to part with the equally excellent 13 plate A4 Allroad.😊
I have the A6 se and I think it is great , it will have to go soon unfortunately , old age hits cars like us.

Yep, diesel and petrol estate cars are brilliant. EV SUVs not so much……
Far and away the best A6 was the C4 generation , with a 6 or 8 cylinder engine.
It's definitely better getting a higher spec and better trim level.. Watch out for diesel injectors failing - that's expensive..
The S Line doesn't ride as well as the Sport though - otherwise I'd agree! -Tim
I own a 40 tdi quattro from 2020. love it! Timeless design, good built quality!
My brothers has one, its the only thing l like about him
It's not hard to clean the car 5 mins to vacuum out.
Why do people buy SUV’s ?
