Man so many good/traumatic memories of me trying to beat this boss as a kid until I finally figured out how to cheese it with Flash shenanigans lmao keep up the great work!
I remember using this boss to level up my characters so they'd be even more OP in The Lost Age. Great memories with this game. It's a damn shame it isn't more well known
Oh the feels man.. That final battle was so climatic, I remember getting there as a child, and I was already sad because I knew the end of the game was near.. Until I heard that the sequel would be out in a few months... :) Very cool restoration, kinda strange to hear it without the shitty gba sound. GS soundrack is probably my favorite VG music, even today. It made this already great game a timeless masterpiece.
It sounds like the strings might need more attack for this one. Great work on these restorations! I’m excited to listen to the rest of what you’ve posted so far

I was comparing the GBA one with what I recorded from the SC-88 and I believe the difference is very subtle? Maybe what you're talking about is the fact that the GBA version uses one single sample that has a strong attack overall but my SC-88 version uses the full range of samples? I think that some notes have a softer attack in the lower ranges. But maybe you're talking about something else? Great restoration! Will you do Mario Tennis as well? It also uses the same samples as far as I know, also, are the synths form Mario Golf the same custom synths created for Golden Sun? I think yes haha
Thank you! Yes I'd love to do some Mario Tennis tracks at some point. I believe that most samples are probably the same but I'll need to double check. Last time I took a quick look, I found at least a few drum samples that sounded different! But in Mario Golf I confirm that the sound "bank" is a 100% match with Golden Sun 2, but at a lower sample rate (which doesn't make a difference for me since I'm restoring them). The synths and their associated params (duty cycle etc) are exactly the same, yes!

It was a pretty terrible truth indeed. Unfortunately, their ends didn't justify their means, and they fell, quite literally because of it.
