*****New perspective on language learning. Beware, it's long******
Regarding the points 1 and 4:
1) I think that output doesn't have to be as equally important as input. It depends on your goals and how much you're comfortable with making mistakes in front of other people.
What I mean is, it's totally fine to be a 100% input learner. You don't have to learn the language only to communicate with people. For some of us it was never the main focus, but we're made to believe that it's the only true indicator of our progress. And many people also believe it's the only true value of a language, but it's not.
For example, I decided early on that I want to learn Korean to mainly consume content. But I also wanted to write because it's my favorite activity in general. That's it. I know I can pick up speaking if the need arises pretty easily. It's only because I'm not scared of embarrassing myself in front of people. Over the years, I learned to laugh at my mistakes with the person, it makes a great ice breaker, actually. Plus, no matter how many languages you learn, you'll always be uncomfortable at output in the beginning.
Before I decided that I don't need speaking, I refused to start learning Korean all together. Again, I thought that it's useless because I don't have a reason to speak with Koreans. Now, I see this is my personal hobby and I'm much happier😊
At the same time, output is both a great way to practice and memorise stuff. So, I'm not descouraging anyone from it.
4) It's kinda tied to the first one. Being hard on yourself can also come from being stuck in a mindset. Nowadays, we're exposed to a ton of ideas on any topic. When something is repeated enough times, we tend to accept it (the illusion of truth effect). I noticed that even if this information is true, it's so hard to rethink these ideas and fit to our situation. The routine doesn't work, and we're too.hard on ourselves. So, we end up chasing the next video or the next resource. Rinse and repeat.
Guys, please stop. Stop for a day and think about your circumstances. Don't consume, just think. Do it every time you feel stuck and everything is going to be okay. There's always more than one way of doing things.
To end this, I totally agree with all of the points you've made. I just wanted to leave it here, because this perspective helped me a lot. And I need a remiender too😅

The last point was right on. That was the most inspirational thing I've heard concerning language learning. Discipline is what i lack and if i learn korean through my emotions, I'll never reach my goals. What an eye opener.
As someone who is having a hard time creating good habits and routines with language learning, these kind of perspectives are really interesting and helpful with gaining a new point of view on this journey! You are a great inspiration and example for self language learners.

Wow, I also encountered these errors, and at that time I didn't take advantage of Korean learning apps/websites much. For those of you who are now self-studying, there are many sources to refer to such as HeyKorea, Cake,... which really help a lot.

I really enjoy your videos. Thank you for sharing your mistakes. I have been re-evaluating my resources lately, I too, have too many. Your thoughts on resource overload are really helpful as are so many of the other mistakes you explored here.
me myself was depressed because of my progress but she always calms me down because I am a slow learner by her tips i have started to feel a bit good but still not satisfied
i’m also a slow learner! just take your time and enjoy the process. put a little bit of discipline in your routine, but makes sure you’re not putting stress on yourself ❤️
As long as you learn it shouldn't be important how long it took it. Remember it is not a competition. One thing well learned is better than 20 poorly learned.

I have found that having a number of resources helps me to understand better, as although each present the same information, they do it in different ways - which is good for my own learning. Once you are familiar with one resource you tend to subconsciously skip through it when reviewing. Don't think that your first year was wasted as it embedded patterns in your brain facilitating your ability and confidence when you started using the reading material. It is the same as watching Korean dramas even though you don't understand them. You are becoming more familiar with the pronunciation and word flow. Those of us that relied on physical dictionaries during our school time when there wasn't an 'online' in existence, have to have such a book for our comfort zone !!!!

This is honestly such good advice. I’ve made all these mistakes.. I studied Korean in efficiently for three years. And when I finally went to Korea, I could understand and say nothing. Too many resources. Apps. With little structure. Now I’m sticking to. Korean 101. And Anki . And making my own flashcards. Because it allows me to learn Korean Pacific to my needs. Instead of learning how to introduce yourself as an American. lol. I’m learning how to introduce myself as an Australian. . And then build on phrases sentences and vocab related to that . 😂

Yes for speaking that's why i took a korean teacher with whom i can speak in hangul. Yes for flashcard, i don't memorize them specially with too many words, i recommend to learn just one or 2 words by day only

I've also done every single one of these mistakes. I can't even count how many hours I've wasted learning vocab out of context at the beginning. I was also wondering, could you share some of your favorite ressources and books for reading? As I'm currently reading Short stories for Intermediate korean learners, it seems that our level is somewhat close, so I would love to discover what else you read!

I really enjoy your videos. You are super meticulous in your note taking. I have OCD so I struggle when taking notes because they have to line up and not have any errors or I will panic. I have so much resource material but I'm not sure where to even start. I only watch kdramas and only listen to Kpop. 💕 I can sing Blackpink, Itzy and Twice in Korean but of course don't know what it means in English 🤣 I love your content. Great job! Any advice?
hi! thank you for watching my videos 🫶🏻 i’d say start with learning the alphabet first, then pick only 1-2 resource materials that you have and study with them (and make sure the materials you pick cover all skills), read out loud whenever you’re reading something in korean, and lots of immersion! for note-taking, if the materials you’re studying with already have good explanations then you don’t really have to take notes on a separate notebook, use that time to practice making sentences instead; but if you do decide to take notes, don’t copy and paste the whole thing, only write important keys and save space mainly for practice! i have other videos on how i take notes and study grammar/vocab if you want to check them out if you haven’t already 🫶🏻
but most importantly, do whatever makes you feel happy and comfortable. there is no rule! ❤️
@@allthingsann thank you for your advice. I actually DM you on Instagram about this. I have started officially as of today with TTMIK level 1 and How to Study Korean. I have good resources to help such as Korean dictionary and actual flashcards as I prefer non digital learning. I have decided to use notebooks like you did and have one dedicated to TTMIK and one that I use for grammar and vocab and other notes. I almost had an anxiety attack 🤣 but I started. I have to organize all my resources though so that will stress me. I love your videos though, I watched a lot of them this morning at work while I was preparing. What textbooks is the most helpful towards learrning mostly everything(convo, grammar, hanguel, etc.)?

I can’t tell you what the perfect method for learning Korean is because there isn’t any. My journey has always been about experimenting different methods and see which ones work for me the most based on my schedule. I can recommend you making time for it and making a study schedule routine so you can follow it if that’s something that works for you. Otherwise, as i said, keep experimenting and enjoy the process! 🫶🏻
Me i know how to read whriting but the Big problem is i don't understand my reading now I feel stresse beacuse after i know how to read now i don't know what is next learning I'm very stress I don't know how to start how to know korean language 😢😢
