    Here is a good tip... when in a wheelie turn the wheels all the way to the left or right, this way when all that weight comes slamming down you shear the fucking wheels off.

    If you ever wondered why drag racers run bead locks, watch 12:29. That tire never popped or broke the bead. It didn't even lose air pressure. It was spinning on the rim because there was more friction between the tire tread and ground than there was between the tire bead and wheel. I've only had this happen to me once on the dyno. I've ran bead locks ever since. Bead locks don't protect the tire in any way. They actually damage it. They aren't there to keep the bead from popping off of the lip. They are there to keep the tire from spinning on the wheel and losing all power on one side. They are never required or beneficial for standard pressure street driven vehicles. When a tire is inflated above 25psi a bead lock serves no purpose. It's when you lower the pressure, which decreases the amount of friction between the tire bead and wheel, and you put down a lot of power that they are useful. A bead lock doesn't protect the sidewall, it damages it. When you put bead locks on a truck, then take it off-roading with more than 25psi, you are damaging the sidewall and gaining nothing in return. If you hit a rock hard enough to lose a bead then you hit it hard enough to rip open the sidewall. Without a bead lock the tire will usually just dismount and can be re-inflated. With a bead lock the tire can't get away from whatever it hits so the sidewall is what takes the damage. That usually can't be re-inflated.

Drag Racing started in 1930's. Tractor Pulling starting in the 1920's. Horse pulling went on many years prior to that. It is the most powerful organized motorsport in the entire world.

      The thing about parts is that it takes forever to get them. The pay for winning is minuscule so you can't afford extras of much other than old parts you have upgraded over time. And even if you have the funds getting them done, you have to get in the queue behind bigger teams paying more that are chasing grand national championships. It is isn't like drag racing where you take all the extra parts and rebuild engines under a fan-cooled awning. Pullers cut it super thin and the fans know this. But I will say this and I couldn't as recent as January, swapping out pistons on several of these tractors, a handful of help can get pistons swapped out in about 5 hours. So if they have parts, they can get it done and back on the track immediately even next day. Also parts in pulling tends to stay relevant for five years. After that much time, you will need the latest gear or you will be chasing others tech advances.

Or when their tractor catches fire and they struggle hopelessly to get out quickly (NOT FUNNY BTW) By the time they get their seat harnesses off they are gasping for oxygen! Maybe the should include easier to release safety harnesses and on-board oxygen tanks and masks like they have in airplanes?

      Most problems in the engine are already there. What you are seeing is the last straw on the camels back. In order to fix it most times, you have to have the breakage to show you what is wrong. I have heard pullers tell me they have been battling something, noise, flutter, knocking, and never could find it until it let go.

    • @smartass6071
      @smartass6071 5 лет назад +1

      @@WWPTV So what your saying is these people suck as mechanics. How many times do the wheels have to break off before they beef them up so that doesn't happen.

    • @WWPTV
      @WWPTV  5 лет назад

      A spindle is only as strong as the welds. If one breaks, you are going to weld it better or make it more rigid somehow. You are always learning from your mistakes. A lot of these pullers do not do their own engine work. It gets sent out for that. Same with Dyno, etc. These teams aren't like NHRA where there are 5 people just standing around just waiting for their next task. It is usually one or two people per team and then help comes over if a puller is in need.
      What I mean to imply was that most of these problems/gremlins/engines (blocks, pistons, rods, rings, etc) are at the end of their life. And it is a tough life. These pullers are not asking them to just drag farm implements around the yard. They are pulling anywhere from 40,000 to 58,000 pounds that gets doubled somewhere around the 200-250 foot mark. It used to be you pull your tractor and a weighted sled where people every so often would jump on the sled as it got pulled down the track. And they used the measure with string and tape measures. It is way more advanced that that now obviously.
      I marvel at these mechanics because they keep coming back and bigger, stronger, more advanced each time. And you should know that technology changes in this sport about every 3-5 years. A seven year old build can be two cycles behind in terms of horsepower.

      @@WWPTV So what you keep saying is they don't spend enough money to get the job done.

    • @WWPTV
      @WWPTV  5 лет назад

      SMH. Yesterdays parts are never as good as today's. Due to a lack of parts suppliers and the waiting for parts to get made/shipped, these pullers are leaving them in as long as they can. Most teams do not have the bankroll to have replacement parts just laying around. And like I said before, if they sit for too long they become obsolete. It is not a statement about not doing this or that. It is a combination of waiting for parts to fail, not having duplicates or bankroll to swap out parts when they suspect they are going away, and different tracks and sled that they may not be used to. I invite these guys and girls to go to other events kind of like cross training so they can learn if their setups work in other places. The best teams travel a lot and tend to know what parts hold up to different soil types, different leagues, etc. Because people from different areas do not build the same tracks same. That is why pullers need experience on different tracks. This is just a collection of breakage, nothing more, nothing less. I tried to make it fit the "Catastrophic" theme.
      And I didn't comment on one of your first points. Most of these runs are not their first runs down the track. On average the pullers I talk to make about 40 hooks a year including the off season/winter/indoor events. Some pullers have told me they pull upwards of 60 times a year.
