Yep. Was a really well made way of showing what PTSD can actually do to you. That + all the science/fantasy mumbo jumbo Made Cloud go full multiple personality disorder by the Time FFVII starts. It's better explained in the original FFVII/Crisis Core. Oh and they really dialed up to eleven the PTSD on the Remake
yep. He didn't like his true self, because he always thought he was weak, useless. Nomura stated Cloud's true personality is a dorky (in a good way) one.
Yeah, y’all kinda messed up the events of the Nibelheim Incident. Tifa didn’t “bring Cloud to safety” it’s actually the exact opposite. Cloud comes inside after Zack looses to Sephiroth and brings an injured Tifa to safety, then takes the Buster Sword from Zack and runs Sephiroth through with it. Sephy brushes him aside and dips with Jenova’s head and an injured Cloud follows him out, gets stabbed in the shoulder and then YEETS SEPHIROTH OFF THE PLATFORM WITH HIS OWN SWORD (which is absolutely insane & one of my favorite scenes in the game). Y’all should definitely retake this one.
Tifa brings cloud to saftey when he gets injured. Cloud wakes up after that and goes into the reactor. He sees tifa but doesnt take her out. He runs toward sephiroth instead
maybe ? the ff7 remake is just a memory of the life stream where the events have already happened and the arbitors of fate are just ensuring the flow of the stream is true
Cloud most likely suffers from dissociative amnesia, a disorder usually caused by severe trauma where the sufferer represses and seemingly forgets the traumatic memory/memories or recalls them unclearly, but it still lingers at the back of their mind. To put it simply, it's basically the brain saying "I can't deal with this at all, let's just pretend it never happened". It affects the sufferer's sense of identity and causes them to be unable to recall important information about themself, and sometimes, in Cloud's case, causes them to develop memories that never happened to fill in the gaps. The disorder takes at least 6 months to develop after the traumatic event, and FFVII began 1 year after Zack's death, so the break of Cloud's psyche was a slow one (and one he had no one to help him through, which explains its severity). Though Sephiroth had some control over him in the scene where he attacked Aerith, this also served as Cloud's breakdown. It gets a bit unclear from here (as is the intention due to his disorder's unclear and unpredictable nature) but I believe the young Cloud symbolises that he never moved on from his childhood trauma and so his mental state is still that of a scared and traumatised child. When he attacks Aerith, you can move around the young Cloud outside of his body but have no control over Cloud himself, and I think this and Sephiroth's control symbolise a dissociative episode, as people experiencing such episodes often feel like they are outside of their own body and can't control themselves. The second time he loses control (when he almost kills Aerith), his friends manage to stop him. Dissociative episodes most easily happen when the sufferer is alone, and this shows that having loved ones around you can keep a dissociative disorder at bay (this is at least true for me). Cloud is a wonderful depiction of a disorder so seldom talked about and his struggle to rediscover his memories and identity is so real for so many people. His final line in Advent Children hit me like a truck because it's a struggle I can relate to myself and like him, I've felt very alone in my life because of it. Sorry, only skimmed the comment, but Cloud’s amnesia was due to prolonged exposure to Mako. This video is kind of misleading. The Jenova cells (which have the ability of ‘mimicry’) he was injected with during the experiments is what caused Zack’s traits and memories to imprint onto him. So we’re attributing human explanations for something that was caused by magic, basically. Sorry to be a bore! What you said was interesting though
Especially seeing how he kept talking about how he was in SOLDIER, it was a major sense of pride for him and garnered him a lot of respect in Avalanche. Then he remembers he failed to get in but still got the special injection that the SOLDIERs get. I love the way his backstory unfolds.
Of the numerous inconsistencies in your video, one irks me most: Red XIII isn't a 'mutated cat thing', he is of an ancient race that once lived at the time of the Cetra, probably predating the Cet. Hojo was experimenting on him, most likely interested their long lifespan, measured in hundreds of years. Cosmo Canyon and his back story was an awesome part of the game.
Too much important stuff glossed over, more in-depth with non-important stuff, many things explained a bit off or flat out wrong. It's sad, I haven't played FFVII in almost 2 decades and remember all this. This is why I unsubscribed from Watch Mojo. Thanks for the comments and support guys!
For further clarity of Cloud's identity crisis, his J cells were a driving factor. The "voice in his head" convinced him that he was Sephiroth's closest operative. This gave Cloud a sense of being that would lead him back to Sephiroth. If not for Tifa, Cloud would have become another Reunionite and wandered toward Sephiroth's location. It was the familiarity of Tifa that allowed him to hold onto his humanity. Also, something some people don't look past at face-value, the Sephiroth we chase is nothing but a J-cell reconstruction. Those cells can take on ANY matter, not just biological. So when you see that Masamune, it's hardened and tempered J cells. Pretty freaky.
Not gonna lie during my childhood i thought all FF games only about cloud lmao. But cloud is really the best FF protagonist ever also the reason why i start playing FF series

wait he was childhood friends with tifa…….she even mentions that she didn't think when she made him make the promise to help her it wouldn't invole all the crazy stuff that's happening
Tifa thought they are childhood friends but after she saw Cloud's real memories she found out that her own memories were not that clear because of the incident that put her in a coma for days. She and Cloud are neighbors but never have a chance to interact with each other as friends until Cloud told her he will go out to be a soldier and that is when Tifa started to think more about Cloud
anids1988 they were never child hood friends, they were just neighbors. Clouds narcissism thought he was above everyone in his hometown including Tifa.... that’s why he ignored any type of interaction with his neighbor. It only took the death of tifa mom when cloud chased after the kids climbing up to the mountain.... everyone bailed but cloud who stuck around to save tifa. That’s when the strong attachment she had for cloud began... it’s like a scenario where you have been bullied by someone for so long and when they show a ounce of kindness a relationship such as friendship and even love can spark... when tifa found cloud after all those years, it was more of a feeling of pity though... like finding an acquaintance of yours is homeless and sitting at the curb side of the street...
Well... Cloud and Tifa were friends. He was just excluded from the group a lot, but they still talked. He didn't misremember them being friends. They still talked and were very aware of each other as neighbors. He only scared Tifa with the fact that HE KNEW about the Nibelheim incident when Tifa didn't see him there at all. The writing in this game is so damn good though.
I don't think they were friends as kids? They were neighbors yeah, but Cloud didn't really talk to her. I remember Tifa saying it was weird when Cloud asked to meet her at the water tower cus they weren't really friends
Sorta kinda but not really. Tifa kind of exaggerated how close they were, but that wasn’t entirely her fault since young cloud was bullied into being a touch antisocial. It’s a more complicated “childhood friend trope” which I appreciate
@@ricardo5910 She didn't bully him the boys she hung around with did but she was always nice to him. I play the game at least two times a year as it is my favorite game in the series because of the story
The thing with "holy" is that it was not strong enough to counter "meteor", thus the planet "gaia" came in to intervene with its lifestream and fight on its own.
Holy is the only thing that can completely destroy meteor. It was not able to reach meteor in time only because it was blocked by the barrier because of Sephiroth. Finally when it was unleashed it was too late as meteor already came too close to the planet and it's collision with holy was creating a devastating effects which was going to destroy the planet. This is when Aerith commands lifestream to create a lifestream sheild covering the entire planet.
Seems you have the Nibelheim incident jumbled up because Cloud is the one who brought Tifa and Zack to safety. Also, Cloud DID confront Sephiroth- didn't imagine doing that. When Tifa found Cloud, he said it'd been 5 years since they last met, but Tifa thought it was 7 years, which is why she wanted Cloud to stick around so she could figure out what was going on with him.
error, cloud does stab sepheroth with the buster sword clean through before sepheroth comes back and impales him. and they are not frozen the chambers their in are the mako treatments which since Zack has already been through them it doesn't effect him. since one of the major side effects of mako treatments is that the persons eyes change a mako green.
you forget that cloud was taken into the past and fought along side heroes during the events of final fantasy tactics and then went back to his own time but lost all memory of this happening.

Oh my God, thank you so much for wrapping this whole thing up. I played the original one years ago when it first came out and just started playing the remakes and could not put the pieces all together. Thank you so much.
Cloud took Zack's memories in part to PTSD, as well as the Mako/Jenova cells. It's pronounced Kuh-Daj, not Kah-Daj. Nanaki (Red XIII) is not a "mutated cat thing" It's ShinRa, not SheenRa. Cloud and Tifa were childhood friends. The kids bullied him, that's why he wasn't friends with them in Nibel.
Actually the kids never bullied him, he thought he was special so he purposefully ignored them. Cloud is very mature about explaining this, within the original FFVII, in the lifestream sequence when your fixing his mind. He explains how he's prejudiced, he feels different and not like those silly dumb kids. He wanted to be strong so he would get into fights. He kinda made himself the loner.

Actually, they have explained everything pretty accurately about Cloud's memory crisis in this video. Cloud never took Zack's memories. Tifa and Cloud were never childhood friends, they barely new each other. Tifa and her friends always ignored, outcasted Cloud because of which he developed a superiority complex. He got Tifa's attention only when most of other guys already left the village and when he told her that he is going to be a soldier.
You know what, I've never played FF7 or even heard the full story and I used to hate Cloud because of all of his "Brooding" but now that I've heard his story I take all of that back... He suffered so much. Now I feel bad for all the stuff for my man. He literally lost his mind because of the death around him and then had the very man that murdered his mother toy with his mind! That's Crazy!
4:19 to add to more of what was said another reason many think is cause Zack had a ability much like one for all and could give his cells and abilities to others which could be a reason he started seeing things he was never around for which Zack got from his superior who sadly passed in a similar manner
FFVII isn’t the greatest RPG, however it is one of the greatest games ever made. You weren’t playing one guy to kill monsters, you were a flawed, hilarious, mischief prone gang of misfits, freaks, sailor talking friends, that were there for each other at moments of intense crisis in a world that was going to end at the expense of some mad psycho’s attempted transition to deity.
For anyone curious, the way she's pronouncing Cait Sith is closer to the Japanese way of saying it, ケット・シー , or "Ketto Shii". after watching this video, remembering all the past about himself, i had a same feeling when tifa reconstructing clouds memory in lifestream 😂😂😂, so this is what it feels like
What do you mean he isn't laid??? He and Tifa were living together in AC and even "adopted" Denzel. At the end, there's a picture of him, Tifa, Marlene, and Denzel (much like a family picture) and when Aerith and Zack are in the doorway of the church together, they both smile encouragingly at Cloud and Cloud then looks at Tifa and smiles. Seems pretty indicative of a relationship to me.
Well, almost at the end of the original FF7 game, there's a scene where the party temporarily disbands while Cloud and Tifa are the only ones alone outside of the airship spending their last time together before the final battle. If the player somehow gains Tifa's affinity level throughout the whole game, there will be a different dialogue shown . Tifa then tells Cloud: "Words aren't the only way of showing someone how you feel". The next scene shows Tifa resting into Cloud's shoulder while he's telling her to wake up and it's time to go. Cloud and Tifa then get on board inside the airship and surprisingly, all of their friends show up! They even tell them that they watched the whole thing, making Tifa feel embarrassed. I'm not sure if this implies that they had sex, but it's freaking funny! Edit: Here's the video about that dialogue! ruclips.net/video/afuKSfF1rHg/видео.html
i personally like how they keep him a pure character and didn't put blatant sexual relationships between characters in the game. Any relationships in the game tend to be implied only.
So guys the question is team Tifa or team Aerith personally I used to be arithmetic but now that I’ve invested years into the game and he kind of only likes Aerith cuz of zacks memories I think Tifa’s the better match and Tifa keeps him more grounded
I really hope that the remake expands a lot on what they do after the game. And since stuff might be changing hopefully some people get their happily ever afters

2:45 .. Tifa brings him to safety ? No, Tifa never brought him to safety. Tifa wasnt even aware that Cloud was there to bring him to anywhere. THIS IS pretty much ONE OF THE MOST ESSENTIAL THINGS IN THE PLOTLINE of the game. She NEVER seen him at Nibelheim during the Shinra events, she NEVER seen him ANYWHERE since he was a kid UNTIL she bumped into him at the train station at Midgar. THAT was the main contradiction of the game. Lady (or whoever wrote this) HOW did you fucked THAT up ???? THIS is literally HALF the plot line of the game !!!!! Which is 1 of the 2 reasons she doesn't speak to him about the past. She never tells him that his memories are wrong not only to avoid making his mental trauma worse but also because she is weirded out by his memories as well. He clearly knows stuff that he shouldn't know unless he was right there YET he is not aware of stuff he should know if he was.
I think you're right, but just because I'm confused, what about the FF7 Anime they did depicting those events? Didn't Cloud reveal himself to Tifa while she was down after being injured by sephiroth and didnt she even say "you kept your promise and came back to save me"?? Or is that not cannon?
@@WolfinaMiyuki That happens in high insight during the subconscious life-stream stuff near the end of the game, when cloud figures out himself through his false memories and has the guts to tell tifa what she didn't know and is ashamed for, that he never made it into soldier but was the grunt shinra troop that entered in the reactor after her failing to protect her. That's when she realized she was wrong about him never coming back to Nibelheim and calls him her hero she wished him to be since he did came back and beaten the bad guy. If Tifa during the shinra events in nibelheim EVER physically acknowledged cloud's presence then the story would have collapsed in itself and made cloud not a person with problems but a grade SSS liar who tries to manipulate her.. never once in the game cloud is called or implied to be either one.. not even in gongaga when the team mets Zak's parent's

Tifa and cloud they are not that close but tifa definitely have a place in Cloud heart since young. And they have connection ,it obvious because of the protective of tifa. So even though not childhood friend it doesn't really matter. She is the keypoint for him to find himself back. 😊

There's a fan theory (that I personally ascribe to), that says Cloud didn't suffer Mako poisoning after falling into the Lifestream at the Crater. Instead he was in shock because falling into the LS drove the Jenova Cells out of his body. Notice how he never suffers manipulation again, even when directly confronting Sephiroth for the final battle. This is further corroborated by the example of Zack being fine after 4 years of experimentation with Mako before because he had built an immunity. Cloud would have similarly built an immunity after the experiments.

They weren't that close in the first place. Acquaintance at best.. but he did take the blame for the fall when they were kids.. i guess she owes him for that one.
When he met Tifa at the train station he didn't regain any memory, Jenova cells inside him (having mimic abilities) read her mind and gave him her memories of their childhood.
The reason that's not true is because he has true memories of events AROUND Tifa, but not involving her, which she doesn't know. It's just a coincidence that he's finally recovering (albeit not completely) at the same time Tifa finds him.
@@zae1371 Not exactly. He doesn't FULLY recover at the train station, but he does recover considerably. The events of the game start immediately after Tifa finds him, and literally until that moment, he's practically an invalid. But he's running around fighting and performing above normal for himself at the beginning of the game. It's not a stretch to analyze that he not only recovered physically, but some mentally as well. Remember, he believes he's Zack, so the memories of all the things Zack did at Nibelheim, he was there for. He has a mental block on his own perspective, but there's no need to read Tifa's mind cause those memories are in his head, and there's no conflict between his childhood memories and his Zack memories, so no mental block.
@@TheKyfe FFVII Ultimania Omega: "Jenova has a mimic ability which allows it to read the memories and feelings of others, then adjust its appearance, speech and behaviour accordingly to immitate what it has seen. Jenova once used this ability to get close to the Ancients and infect them with its virus, which killed many of them. This ability is not limited solely to Jenova itself, for those who have its cells within them possess it as well, though in an incomplete form. Immediately prior to the start of the game, when Cloud's mind was shattered, he ran into Tifa and seemed to immediately return to "normal" (-->P.13); this was because the mimic abilities of the Jenova cells inside Cloud read her mind, seeing her memories of him, which were then combined with his own ideal vision of himself, fashioning a new personality for him."

Young King Kush more like left out not “messed up” this is a quick recap they don’t need to bring up every detail like cloud using the buster sword
At that moment, Cloud went from zero to a Hero
they got a bit wrong not just that
maybe ? the ff7 remake is just a memory of the life stream where the events have already happened and the arbitors of fate are just ensuring the flow of the stream is true
Disclaimer: I'm not a psychologist, I speak here from only personal experience and research.
Your words warmed my heart. I can relate with you because I had a lonely and sad social life with epilepsy episodes followed by short memory losses and panic attacks. Its because of his prolonged exposure to mako
I love the aspect of failing in the SOLDIER admission. It’s not often you see bad ass characters not achieve their goals like in real life
Especially seeing how he kept talking about how he was in SOLDIER, it was a major sense of pride for him and garnered him a lot of respect in Avalanche.

Eddie Gussler II yah she did it on a whim lots of facts here is a lil misleading

Nathan Dotson nah we already know Sephiroth’s. I agree with Vincent though.

Liam Keylock bruh
anids1988 they were never child hood friends, they were just neighbors.
By childhood friends, she means they were acquaintances as a child. Ouch
Yes... Because of tifa stupidity falling in the bridge .. She forgot it .. Making all the blame to cloud.... I think in ff7 disc 3
Agree, what a really deep story and lore, but still easily understandable.
I don't think they were friends as kids? They were neighbors yeah, but Cloud didn't really talk to her. I remember Tifa saying it was weird when Cloud asked to meet her at the water tower cus they weren't really friends

Yup they were friends , cloud thought he was a clone at The time ,
Not realy that much of friends though, Tifa used to bully him when they where young.
Sorta kinda but not really. Tifa kind of exaggerated how close they were, but that wasn’t entirely her fault since young cloud was bullied into being a touch antisocial. It’s a more complicated “childhood friend trope” which I appreciate

The thing with "holy" is that it was not strong enough to counter "meteor", thus the planet "gaia" came in to intervene with its lifestream and fight on its own.
Holy wasn't ready by the time meteor hit.
and then yeah the earth used the lifestream to help holy repel meteor completely
It was because Holy was too late
Wasn't it also partially because they shot a rocket at the meteor, making it even deadlier than before?

I thought Noctis was my favorite but when I saw cloud... boy oh boy was I happy
One of the most attractive fictional characters ever and STILL ISN'T LAID ?! C'MOM

What?! I liked Sephiroth’s character in the Kingdom Hearts series.
Nomura: so...... Anyways i started messing up with the time line!!!!
That was INCREDIBLY helpful, actually! Thank you! And yes, Vincent timeline would be GREAT!
I would like a Complete In-Depth Final Fantasy VII Timeline Video.
Benjamin Degley I second this wholeheartedly
Hey lady, make up your mind: Aeris, or Aerith? You said both through the whole video...
because its both =)
Look it up, it’s both.
@@nenita1228 It's only Aeris in the mistranslation
@@RetroFrito Makes no difference in Japanese.
@@MaiMeng But it does in English, which is what I'm talking about. She was only Aeris in one game. Every game that followed, she was Aerith. The correct name is Aerith.
A vincent timeline would be so f**king helpful.
Proud to call Cloud and FF7 my favorite video game character and video game respectively
I have never played ff7 but after listening to the plot the story seems really complex but good.
It is
There's a fan theory (that I personally ascribe to), that says Cloud didn't suffer Mako poisoning after falling into the Lifestream at the Crater.
I’m literally just watching this cause Final Fantasy 7 Remastered is free on PlayStation this month.
I love story games so I want to play the Remaster.
I don’t know much about the series but I’m not about to turn down a 80 Dollar story game for Free.
Remake, not Remastered.
They weren't kept cryogenically frozen. Those were the Mako chambers where they were being doused with Mako energy.
wait at 9:50 the video says that Tifa helps Cloud remember things by diving into the subconscious of his mind about him not being a SOLDIER at all which I understand but also not childhood friends with Tifa? I thought he was childhood friends with Tifa?
They weren't that close in the first place. Acquaintance at best.. but he did take the blame for the fall when they were kids.. i guess she owes him for that one.
He did live in the village with tifa, and had a crush on her too, but her never actually became friends with her.
@@bigboibebop Ah. Then more like acquaintances if at all. But he did have a crush on her back when he was child.
Joe Karen yes, he did have a crush. He just didn’t have the guts to pursue her.
Whatever the extent of their friendship she made it sound like they just lived in nibleheim and never knew of each other which is false
7:53 "cid: "Dumb #^%@!"
LOL good memories, Cid and Barret were funny as #^%@!
Oh, the irony of this video now that ff7 remake has come out.
This is a good breakdown for someone who didnt play the game, by someone else who didnt play the game, or didnt understand the game.
After finishing FFVII remake, this helps me connect the dots. Thank you.
Me too
When he met Tifa at the train station he didn't regain any memory, Jenova cells inside him (having mimic abilities) read her mind and gave him her memories of their childhood.
The reason that's not true is because he has true memories of events AROUND Tifa, but not involving her, which she doesn't know. It's just a coincidence that he's finally recovering (albeit not completely) at the same time Tifa finds him.
@@TheKyfe Yes but he regains those memories later in the game, after falling in the Lifestream, not at the train station
@@TheKyfe FFVII Ultimania Omega:
"Jenova has a mimic ability which allows it to read the memories and feelings of others, then adjust its appearance, speech and behaviour accordingly to immitate what it has seen. Jenova once used this ability to get close to the Ancients and infect them with its virus, which killed many of them.
This ability is not limited solely to Jenova itself, for those who have its cells within them possess it as well, though in an incomplete form. Immediately prior to the start of the game, when Cloud's mind was shattered,
he ran into Tifa and seemed to immediately return to "normal" (-->P.13); this was because the mimic abilities of the Jenova cells inside Cloud read her mind, seeing her memories of him, which were then combined with his own ideal vision of himself, fashioning a new personality for him."
@@zae1371 Well then, point Elisa. Seems a little silly to go that far when it's perfectly reasonable (and makes logical sense) to use what I thought, haha.
I can't wait for the next parts of FF7 remake. I think that some stuff from the story will be diffrent, because they changed some stuff in the remake (well thats what I read from people). Also, the ending of the remake was kinda confusing and I think that will change the story and the plot. I think that it is going to be BIG. What are your toughts?
Rumors say there might be an alternate universe wherein Aerith/Zack lives.
@@shojiki.construction nope. They gonna Change the story. remake gonna be canon
Oh man. That was really excellent, thank you for this
SHEEEEEENRA energy company...
REEEEEEEEEEEEEE
Ok I'm not the only one lol
Even if you didn't understand Japanese phonetics, I think shin-ra is pretty self-explanatory as its the same in English.
@@humantacos9800 And the fact that they say it it cc:ff7... multiple times.
SHIN
*_slaps shin_*
SHIN-RA
So many of her pronunciations really bothered me lol
Zack deserves his own DLC in the remake 😢
Or a high budget Crises Core remake
Definitely. Zack is Aerith's love. Zack is actually 1st Class. Zack saves Cloud and is what made Cloud who he is. Zack is a true soldier who died on the battlefield. Gotta respect the guy.
Yeah i misss zack😢😢😢
Yeah that's true I am playing crisis core again just for zack!!
7:53 the moment where you realize Cid Highwind is a slightly younger version of Red Forman from That 70's Show.
A Vincent Valentine timeline would be so cool
Thank you for this great video
Okay, Cloud was 4 years in a Mako Reactor, but how did he learn to fight with the Buster Sword? He was just an ordinary infantryman and didn't do anything heroic like Zack. He just grabbed the sword and was OP?
He took in Zac's memory and skill.
He was ready to become a soldier physically before mako poisoning. He only failed the mental test. I think because of his physical skills he already had and then the strength he got because of mako naturally makes him a good fighter.
Do not forget jenova cells his body didnt reject them , thats a huge boost to physical attributes.
Being a soldier isn't heroic. Zack was mostly a shinra's tool and a murderer.
@@1989elandy Through the first half of the Game: Yes indeed. But later on he fought Shinra and tried to stop Sephirot and Genesis - they were Shinra's tools and murderers. Beeing a SOLDIER gave Zack the power to BE heroic
