Ps I highly recommend Mark's autobiography Things To Tell The Grandchildren, I honestly think you'll get a lot out of it, it's very honest, dryly funny, incredibly thoughtful and touching, and surprisingly very upbeat in a way. Perhaps a good tonic for you at this time. I finished it with an overwhelming feeling of 'things maybe a bit shit sometimes, but overall, i reckon Im going to be alright, I just need to keep working on it'.
I still think this is one of the greatest songs of the 90s. And the video was absolutely groundbreaking at the time. One of the best live shows I ever saw was Eels at the Metro Chicago when they had a mime open for them (yes a F'n mime who was awesome). Waited outside after and got to meet E and get this autograph on my ticket stub.

"Going to Your Funeral Pt 2" and this song represent the turning point where the music starts to feel more hopeful, as if the speaker is beginning to accept and make peace with the tragedies he's faced.

In 1999 I lived in a tiny town in Nevada with no radio stations or music stores but I heard this song on my satellite radio. I kept a cassette tape on record/pause waiting for this song to come on!
This was one of those songs that could have only come out of the 90's: this sort of experimental mishmash of genres with lyrical stylings that were nothing more than brief statements that sort of had tenuous connections to one another. It's hard to know if music will ever be that creative ever again, but I'm glad I lived through it.

I saw this video in 90's only once and could not find it for many years for some reason (internet videos were not a thing in 2000's, then I forgot/lost interest). But the title "Eels" stuck into my mind for years. Glad to rediscover this now and to listen fully. Some moments from this video just stuck in a head (chorus electronics), so unusual touch it had then. This even did not age much, neither musically nor as CGI.
This clip is a piece of art. I enjoyed it when it just came out, and l am enjoying it now together with my 3 and 6 year old kids. Props to Eels and the makers of this clip

This was one of those songs that could have only come out of the 90's: this sort of experimental mishmash of genres with lyrical stylings that were nothing more than brief statements that sort of had tenuous connections to one another. It's hard to know if music will ever be that creative ever again, but I'm glad I lived through it.

Just... Just achingly beautiful
I saw this video in 90's only once and could not find it for many years for some reason (internet videos were not a thing in 2000's, then I forgot/lost interest). But the title "Eels" stuck into my mind for years. Glad to rediscover this now and to listen fully. Some moments from this video just stuck in a head (chorus electronics), so unusual touch it had then. This even did not age much, neither musically nor as CGI.
This clip is a piece of art. I enjoyed it when it just came out, and l am enjoying it now together with my 3 and 6 year old kids.

I remember this video from ages ago. It was loaded onto a computer game called "Trespasser" I still play that game and occasionally watch this video on there. EPIC!

Same. You can feel the pain and grief coming through the notes. A beautifully sad touching tribute to his sister and one of the best depections of grief in music.
