I binged watched Beck after I got kicked out of my band... I wasn't in the mood to keep playing rock and roll but Beck actually encouraged me not to quit. I formed a new band and We're recording soon. Beck will always mean a lot to me.
It was great hearing a musician’s perspective on this show, especially in regards to the band’s musical inspirations. So nice to see people are still talking about this anime.

I think finishing the manga is good enough, but i definitely would love a season 2 animated (maybe they'd be able to capture the UK arc in an interesting way)
This series literally saved my musician self, as I am already quiting on playing music, made me cry from anime to the live action, pushed me to sart dreaming big and hold drumsticks again

I remember watching fansubs weekly as it was being originally broadcast...it's so weird hearing Chiba rap in English haha I need to go watch it dubbed now
I actually loved the CG instruments and the fact that the hands are making the right chord shapes. It was kinda jarring when they didn't use CG because the guitars would appear as blobs from far away. Beck will always have a special place in my heart janky animation included. It's weird to say but Ryusuke is one of my biggest guitar inspirations even if he is fictional.
I actually really didn't mind any of the bad points of the show you mentioned, I found the animation decent and am pretty much used to this type of endings.
Not only is the pacing good storytelling, but it’s also very true to life. No one just picks up a guitar and knows how to play it, friends don’t just form a band and start playing shows, and no one sure as hell finds a dependable drummer the first time.

I had a lot of the same personal take aways you highlighted but through a different personal lens that would take this beyond the musical sphere but regardless still gave me the motivation to never quite despite of outside opinion. About you're "80's cartoon Syndrome". I'm pretty sure that's quite normal in anime. This is quite dated, so the animation might now be as good as modern animation but this quite common. Anime uses Limited animation. Basically it sacrificed movement for expression and such. When you reach the more animated parts like the instrument playing and the opening it's called sakuga. Sakuga is basically the extra animated parts of an episode. The thing with Openings is that it's mostly sakuga while the show itself uses limited animation and sakuga animation
Honestly, I prefer to watch the original Japanese version because of profanity LOL…..the characters are all fleshed out realistically……one of my top favorite animes in my list
