Fantastic stuff Simon, you’ve certainly got some graft done & good to see you find time for some photography too - it can’t always be all work & no play. Really enjoying watching your wildlife homestead grow & really wish you & the family all the best with it. Keep on keeping on mate! Best, Nick
Hello Simon, I've been following your fantastic videos, for some time, one better than the next, when it seems they can't get any better, you deliver another classic. Your delivery, grounded, humorous and insightful videos, are simply like great movies, you can watch them over & over and they never age !...I have to apologise that this is only my first post here in recognition of how much I really enjoy your work...im currently in rehab recovering from spinal surgery for an old sports injury. I wish you & yours many moons and years of happiness in your new home. Sincerely. Martin
Hi Martin, thanks for getting in touch and heres hoping your recovery goes well. Very grateful for watching the films and supporting the channel. ATB, Si 👊🏼
You don't have to thank me for watching, Simon. I wouldn't miss it for anything. I really appreciate you showing us around the place and sharing your plans and photographs. Getting your new place in order is a lot of work but you will really reap rewards from it. One thing I would think about is planting some trees or something along the fence line where you can see some of the neighbors houses in the background. We have a fencerow like that that I let grow up and also planted some trees. From the time the leaves put out in the spring until December you can't tell we have any neighbors back there. I do a lot of birds along that edge.
Simon, you are living our dream, I wish I was 30 years younger. I am very pleased to hear you are planning to make space for the odd Campervan, I would love to visit and give you a hand and collect my beanbag/knee pad 👍🏻👏👏👏
Great to see how much you’ve done already, you’re a hard worker. Lovely to see the Dogs too, they look very happy. Great log splitting technique, must be quite satisfying I think?
Thanks Sue, a good days graft is so rewarding especially when you can see the fruits of your labour!! The dogs are in their element here. Love a days log splitting, puts you straight to sleep at night!!!😀😴
Really great video Si i think you are in your element good to see the progress the raptor station look great you must be at it 24-7 what with work keep going mate and congratulations on completing the Liverpool marathon cheers Laurence.
Cheers Laurence, we had a Kite, Raven and Buzzard down the other day so a promising start. These things take time but excited for the future. Ive ordered some new knees on Amazon!!👍🏼🤣🦵🏼
The place is looking great mate. It will be bursting into life in the next few weeks if we get some decent weather. You will also have the summer migrants back soon to add to the photo opportunities. Keep up the good work. Catch up soon. 👍
Thanks John, yeh its amazing how the place bursts to life in the Spring. Cant wait to see whats going to arrive in the Spring/Summer. Thanks for watching mate 👀👍🏼
Such a beautiful sight your own little bit of paradise !! cheers for the update keep on keeping on ! Maybe Husqvarna have a log splitter lying around the could give you a lone of to test it out 😉
Simon, just power watched your first three homestead videos. Living the dream my man. My aim is to buy a woodland and do something very similar. Looking forward to more videos and lessons - Mike
Wow what a lot of jobs on the go! Don’t burn out, take time to photograph and chill. Just downloaded the Merlin app. Can’t wait to try that in the woods tomorrow. Go well 👍
Hey Simon, i think only wildlife photographers like us with using hides are the only ones that will plant dead tree's. Lol. Another great video and fantastic photos! Greg
Cheers Simon, lots of progress, plenty of hard graft. Good saws them husky’s . Had to put mine in a plastic chainsaw box, mice chewed through primer bulb twice, little sods. Special place you got there. You can already see how your hard graft is paying off. Looking forward to the next one. All the very best. 👍📷😎
Thanks Rob, ive got a few saws. Much prefer the Husky to my Stihl. Yes I too have an ongoing battle with the mice in the barn. They can cause untold damage. Thanks for watching pal😀
What you do Simon is amazing your an inspiration to me, I envy your energy and drive, it’s pure hardworking dedication. Don’t forget to enjoy the hard work. I really don’t know how you fit everything in. Your videos are now at an even higher level and I love seeing your homestead projects. Have you thought about putting caps on Etsy if Henry Cole and Drew Pritchard can do it so can Simon Eardley 😀😀😀
Youre right John, you do need to take time to chill. I have to keep reminding myself of that!! A new revenue stream in Caps🤔 I'll give it some thought😀
A brilliant video on your homestead progress and your knowledge of bird behaviour will help you create the ultimate setups. Re the Woodpeckers, my mate sometimes uses peanut butter in his tree prop and the Woodpeckers absolutely love it. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, your new home looks absolutely amazing and the views are fantastic. I can’t wait to see all your hard work come to fruition, all the best Simon.
Another CRACKING video, Thoroughly enjoyable to watch with a cuppa and see the amazing progress your making with the place. Great shots of the GSW. Thanks for putting in the time and effort Simon.

Wildlife never does what you want 🤣 Same as its always beautifully perched and close for some child with an iphone 🤣 yet doesn't want to play ball for wildlife photographers.
@@simoneardley yep, it's the law of the wild. Those who work hard, get a distant animal. Those just standing outside for a fag break, get eagles landing on their arms...damn wildlife, why can't it just do as I ask??
What a great homestead update, the enthusiasm for your new lifestyle is ooooozing out of every word & takes us along the journeywith you, just love how you put these videos across, great content.👌 What an awesome location you’ve found, its gonna be amazing. Certainly are putting in some real graft, i was panting with you carrying that Birch, infact i gave by the house!!! 😭Cant wait for the next episode. Thank Simon 🤛
Superb Si, brilliant project and lots of hard work! But isn't it the best type of work... Hard graft, topped off with some great images of the GSW. Keep it up mate, looking forward to watching more from Canada. Can't wait to visit when I'm home. Cheers Rich 😀👊

It's really great to see how your plans for your wildlife homestead are coming to fruition. You have a fantastic canvas to work from and I am looking forward as you share your progress. Thanks again.
Great video, loved the images at the end with great soundtrack :-) I wish it was a longer video, looking forward to the next update. I like the format of homestead updates, plans and photography for a target species :-) hoofing work
Great shots Simon, I like the video clip when it was on the bottom log down low, a different shot and not the typical pose we usually see. You are not going to get much rest there are you, but as long as you enjoy it that all that matters. Keep the videos coming, there great.
Another great vlog Simon, you truly are a busy and inspiring man. Keep up the great work for all the fantastic wildlife. Some great shots of the gsw, and I hope you manage to get some shots of the red kites as they are magnificent raptors. All the best, and I can't wait for the next vlog. Cheers Lee
Thanks Nigel, yeh great to bump into you. The trees should be fine mate as there are literally no deer or rabbits near the property. The habitat looks absolutely magical for Roe Deer but there are literally none about. Where we moved from in Lancashire it was teeming with them!!🦌
i love watching your videos.id love you to do a detailed vid of how you started to where you are now.i understand you are an artist and photographer..which came first???also in some of your vids you mentioned being busy working..what job was you doing??you used to use the same combo as me(im rubbish with it)please do a short life story vid of when you started through to now...all the best at your new property and im really looking forward to many more vids.all the best simon.
Thanks Steve, artist first and then came the photography. I'm currently still a wholetime firefighter, retiring later this year after 26 years in the job. Thanks for watching mate.👍🏼👀
Did I hear you say Tree Sparrow heard on the Merlin app. Simon, ? If so one species that really needs our help with winter feeding and nesting opportunities - sadly one bird that has disappeared completely from my part of the Midlands. Love the vid. Cheers.
Thanks for that. I dont do much to be honest, very basic. Maybe alter contrast and brightness, a bit of vibrance. Occasionally run them through Topaz if needed.
Lovely video Simon , great set up you will never need to leave home again ! May I ask what video settings do you use on the Z9 please? Best wishes Rich.
@@simoneardley It works well. I took a picture of a bird I wasn't sure about and snapped a picture from the back of my z9 and it identified it right away.
Just wondering 3 woodpeckers where they all male/ adult ones ?... spring 2023 I manage 2 woodpeckers but 1 was in charge ie the boss and other one to my untrained eye was the youngster ie fledgling got some cracking shots of them and couple where adult was either telling its kid off or was trying to attack it.. any how nice work once again but erm what happened to bird box build video ? cheers from the edge of Exmoore.
Great video again Simon, I finding these updates really interesting so thanks for sharing your story 👍🏻 The images you got are fantastic. Just wondering why you chose to use a 15 ft trunk as a perch? You mentioned you didn’t want to be shooting up into the sky. I used a small perch of about 4 ft, so it was about eye level when sat in a chair. I drilled 12mm holes and rammed peanuts into them, it worked well for both the Greater Spotted Woodpeckers and Nuthatches. Also brought in the Blue, great and coal tits. I do like the idea of the 32mm holes though, I’ll have to give that a go when I find some time!😐
Thanks Peter, its a fair comment. I just plonked it in the hole and left it. The holes were only drilled low down so theres more chance of them being on that part of the perch. I may shorten it if need be. 👍🏼
What a beautiful part of the world

@@simoneardley it coast a fortune doesn't the starlings normal take most of the food that I put out in my garden 😊
Brilliant as always, wildlife haven is all coming together for you.
Thanks Neil 👍🏼
Another great video Simon, looks like a lot of hard work, but you seem to be enjoying yourself too
Cheers Chris, cant get enough of it. So rewarding mate 👊🏼
Looking good Simon. Those new trees may need protection from deer. They love new growth and juicy shoots. Good to chat at Birmingham.
Thanks Nigel, yeh great to bump into you. The trees should be fine mate as there are literally no deer or rabbits near the property. The habitat looks absolutely magical for Roe Deer but there are literally none about. Where we moved from in Lancashire it was teeming with them!!🦌
@@simoneardley No deer ! You will still be going off site in the future. You cant survive without a Roe or Fallow shoot.
Wonderful video series 👏, great images 📸
Thankyou very much 👍🏼
Class again can't wait to the next one😂
Thanks Patrick 👍🏼
i love watching your videos.id love you to do a detailed vid of how you started to where you are now.i understand you are an artist and photographer..which came first???also in some of your vids you mentioned being busy working..what job was you doing??you used to use the same combo as me(im rubbish with it)please do a short life story vid of when you started through to now...all the best at your new property and im really looking forward to many more vids.all the best simon.
Cheers.
Yep, thats what the Merlin app picked up Glenn. I'm going to be getting some boxes knocked up this week for them. 👍🏼🌳
Hi Simon , are you going to make a few bean bags between jobs ? I’d love a woodcock 😅🙏🏻 loving your videos and love the new homestead 👌🌱🎋🌾
Thanks Karen, I'm hoping to get cracking soon with the Etsy shop 👍🏼
@@simoneardley oh brilliant thank you 😊
Crows take over where I live!
great video and great shots
Thankyou 👍🏼
Looks like it's coming along nicely. Maybe you should get a small farm tractor with a bucket.
Thanks John, its on my list of machinery required. If you could have a chat with the Mrs that would be great!!🤣🤣
Great video Simon - really enjoyable. Keep up the good work. Do you do much post processing to your bird pictures?
Thanks for that. I dont do much to be honest, very basic. Maybe alter contrast and brightness, a bit of vibrance. Occasionally run them through Topaz if needed.
your getting there mate, Rome was not built in day, but your trying....LOL
Cheers Keith, roll on the longer days and I came get Rome finished!!🤣🤣
Lovely video Simon , great set up you will never need to leave home again ! May I ask what video settings do you use on the Z9 please? Best wishes Rich.
Thanks Richard, always on AF-F and a variety of focus areas depending on the subject size and speed.
‘Homestead’ - on Ilkley Moor - (Bar T’at … not) 😂😂😂
😉👍
I love the Merlin app. If you take a picture of a bird you can identify it right from the screen of your camera
Not tried that part of the app John, i'll give it a go 👍🏼
@@simoneardley It works well.
There were quite a few Males knocking about but unsure exactly. The bird box build will be coming soon 👍🏼 ATB, Si 👍🏼
thanks and looking forward to next video now.@@simoneardley
Hi there's a man in his element. I'm Not jealous of course mmmm🙄
Like a pig in sh*t Gary!!🤣
@@simoneardley ah ok, I get it now if the holes are low down. I guess carrying that 15 ft trunk saved you having to find time to go to the gym 😂
