What puts John on a whole different level is he can perfectly sing along with these extremely complex fingerstyle songs. I cannot begin to comprehend this mans talent. My favourite guitarist and singer.
Clapton says he's a genius and doesn't really know how damn good he is. Listen to the interview he gave from Central Park about his first-ever concert there. He was a kid.
Two years later, Paul releases a vid to say how wrong he was in his understanding/playing NEON. I love the re-addressing of his own work and continued improvement. It's a great example for all us inspirering guitarists. Eternal thanks Paul. here's the link to his new NEON vid. ruclips.net/video/E0_1oWQJ-a0/видео.html

Actually I never thought I liked John Mayer until I started really listening to his Guitar playing - wow. was I ever wrong! lol

Paul, honestly you are completely amazing on this instrument. Im so envious of your skills, but you're a great inspiration for me to get better at playing guitar. Thank you, you bring me so much joy. Happy Holidays!
Fascinating to watch someone play these complex songs. You always get my fingers itching to pick up the guitar! Any chance you'll be teaching some of these in more depth? :D
Beatalls me too when i heard and see him playing the guitar i just want to grab a guitar and remember my times playing, so sad i had to left my guitar in my old country ... well guess i will be searching for a new one :D
Currently learning Stop This Train as a relatively new player. Played in high school for a couple years but just picked up the guitar again 6 years later. Took me two days to learn just the picking pattern. Now gotta somehow get the chords going. Really difficult for me but I enjoy playing it over and over and seeing the progression even as slow as it is.
You and this video are what made me like John even more than i did before. Taught myself heart of life, who says, why georgia and many others. definitely my favourite artist and the best guitarist in my opinion. so pleeeeeeeease for the love of god make a part 2, would love to see what other fingerstyle songs you like of him.

Wonderful tutorial, and beautifully produced video as well. I've got most of "Queen of California" down, but I really need to practice the slapping technique. "Who says" is just a bunch of chords when I play it :) Keep up the fantastic work, Paul.
You have perfected everything you post on your channel, and it makes me believe you are the next race of humanity that can download like 70 years of guitar playing in a fraction of the time and do them all so well that, no doubt, the original artist would be absolutely speechless. Wow man, this channel just blew my mind!

What do you think is the best song to practice the slapping and strumming technique? It's the only thing that's holding me back from playing songs I want.
Fenrir I started of doing that with Heart of Life by John Mayer. It's got only two picking patterns the whole songs and only thumb slaps on one specific string so it's pretty good for starters. Once you get the technique down its pretty easy.
