Seasons lack games for each season. It really lack things to do in each season. Island living was the worst for me. Mermaids were so basic the world beautiful but no hotels no boat house or boat fishing or just anything island cultured. Beautiful world but lack so much. City living is the best. So glitch but full pack.

i have almost every pack, but even if i were to own every single one i still can't imagine myself ever enjoying the game without mods lmao. i was also thinking about how if someone new were to get into Sims 4, it would take them forever to buy all the packs, depending on how much money they have. i'm not that poor, but i'm not rich either so it's taken me like 7 years to get to where i am now with the packs and i still don't even own all of them. it's just going to keep getting more and more expensive as well since EA is so money hungry. what a shame, to be honest. Sims 4 has a lot of potential and it's really depressing to see it be handled in such a gross way because the company only sees it as a cash grab and nothing more.

    • @phonicrose8395

      Stahp.
You can't take every new piece of DLC they've released over the years and say they're money hungry. Would you rather they didn't make ANY new content? The game has been around for like a decade now. It's not that outrageous price wise in that lens/viewpoint.
I also got into the Sims 4 later on, and had to use sales to get caught up with what I enjoyed. But I started by only buying what appealed to me. Which is honestly what a new player would do as well.

My biggest problem with Sims 4 occults is that there’s no gameplay mechanic for “hiding your true nature”. Especially with the vampires, there’s so much flavor text about blending in with the mortals but then when you’re actually playing, literally everyone knows you’re a vampire and only the werewolves care.

You should do a video of which packs are miscatagorized based on the content that they add. Horseranch is a game pack sold as an expansion, luxury party is a kit sold as a stuff pack and paranormal stuff is arguably a game pack sold at a stuff pack price. There are a lot of inconsistencies!

Agree that Seasons is a fantastic pack…I passed on HSY, great concept that was poorly executed (and broke the game.) Also passed on Horsies. Regret buying Snowy Escape and Eco Living (never even played either.) My personal favorite is Cottage Living…maybe cause I’m always gardening with my Sims, and the world is so pretty. Agree the key to Uni is turning off aging, you’ll be an elder by the time you graduate if you want to do all the stuff. Lol, was so excited for MWS and that started my true descent from ‘well, it’s not as good as Sims 2/3, but it’s still sort of fun, sort of.) Didn’t buy it. Just amazes me that this game sells as much as it does…and I’m looking forward to the other Life Sim games coming out and giving them some competition. I remember laughing and having so much fun with Sims 2 and 3…with Sims 4, I wind up watching LPs cause it’s too boring to play, lol. Plus, I always think, I need a mod for this broken/bad feature…and I was never much for mods…but, you literally cannot play the game without dying of boredom (or frustration from bugs) without a ton of mods…which just makes it ‘work.’ When I want to play a game…I tend to grab my Switch and play Animal Crossing. I don’t want to ‘work’ to make a game work, for me, games are for relaxation, and Sims 4 is the opposite of that. (No Batuu, no dust busting…I hate vacuuming irl, no laundry.) I miss funny interactions, crazy Sims with personalities, random aliens/zombies walking around town, and just having it be…fun! Glad Steam finally realized I bought all the Sims 3 packs (albeit for Windows back in the day, and we’re Mac only here) and so I can play that now without having to buy it over again…works fine and dandy on a 2yo Mac Book Pro laptop, and even better on iMac 2022 desktop (higher chip speed version.)

I own way to many packs, but I dont really regret buying any of them. But that is probably because they were my teenage rebelion. My parents would not buy me any expansion, I only had cats and dogs for a really long time and that was only because I had lost my key to sims 3 pets and so they gifted me it. So most packs were bought with my pocket money once I figured out that ea giftcards existed.

  • @petrnovak7235
    @petrnovak7235 Год назад +4

Before Growing Together, I would've agreed that if I only could get one EP it would've been this one. But now, I am split. I can't tell I fully agree with Satch's assessment of Growing Together. Yes, the chemistry is annoying, I'll give you that, but pretty much everything else in Growing Together is a godsend for us family players. From treehouse to family dynamic, that pack has it all. So, now, it's hard for me to decide between Seasons and Growing Together, but I'd probably go with the latter, if I only had to choose one. Still, agree that many of what is in Growing Together should be in base game, especially the infant gameplay and stuff, but it's EA we are talking about, so, whatever.
The EP I regret buying is Horse Ranch. Don't get me wrong, I love horses in my game and I love kids can ride them now. But that's about all the positives of that pack for me. Everything else in it, including horse breeds, sadly, is so single-mindedly Americanised, or should I say westernised, that me, European who never liked westerns (I know, blasphemy, but westerns are one of my least favourite movie genres, sorry to all western fans) cannot fully enjoy it. Not to mention what little is in it is only worth GP, not EP. And honestly, it's the only EP I really feel this way. I am not big fan of the early EPs either, because I feel they have third if not quarter of the content of similar Sims 2 and 3 EPs for the same price, but the cashgrabbiness in Horse Ranch is really, really wrong even for Sims 4 standards.
As for GPs, well, that's easy: Parenthood. For me, family player, that's a must. Every other GP is nice to have, but this one is a must for me.
The only one I can tell I regret buying is Strangerville. My opinion is they should release it as a separate spin-off game, like the Stories series back in Sims 2 times. As Game Pack, it just doesn't work and fit within the game. But it's the only one I feel that way. Every other pack I feel was worth it, yes, even the controversial Batuu pack. Maybe I am weird, but I still enjoyed it to a degree. Would I buy it for the full price again? No, definitely not. But as part of Build the Bundle deal, I can't tell I regret getting it. Also, I got My Wedding Story after it was fixed and Spa Day after the rehash, so, that may affect my opinions. Maybe I regretted getting them if I got them right away. But as it is, I don't regret them.
Stuff Packs, well, I really disagree with Satch about them. I quite like them all. Worth the price for gain ratio for me. But the one worth it the most is the most recent one, Home Chef Hustle. Seriously, that one added a lot to my game for cooking and I love it all. It's definitely worth my money. Laundry Day and Paranormal were also great addition to the gameplay. But overall, I can't tell I regret any SP.
Kits... well, I still hate the whole idea. Third or less content of average SP for half the price? Outrageous! They should cost no more than € 3! I still got seven of them and out of those the only two I feel quite satisfied for the € 5 are Dust the Bust (don't get where the hate to this one came as the gameplay is cool and funny, Sims-style, the kind of quirky gameplay I like in Sims) and First Fits kits. And the latter only because kids are often ignored when it comes to outfits (look at how little they got in Horse Ranch and Home Chef Hustle, it's really, really sad), so, it's nice to have some cool outfits for them. Every other kit just not worth the money. Maybe if I was builder, like Satch, my view on them would be different. But as it is, I am not fan of the kits.
So, that's my look at things.

I believe that all packages are valid, but what I think is that they abandon them and make another package and do not complete them. For example, Trip to Batú is not bad, what is bad is its rabbit hole content, the lack of connection with any Sims Pack. Journey to Batú needs functional spaceships and vehicles, to be able to build in that world to be able to live. And this is similar to all the packs.
Or for example, the road to fame needs limousines, improvements in terms of auditions for actors and singers and more details in terms of luxury lifestyle and hotels, theaters and studios and more details of that world.

Journy to batoo is not the best example because I feel like Disney didn't leave the developing team with much creative liberty, but your point still stands, lots of older packs need to be made more compatible with the newer ones, dine out and the other notoriously buggy ones need to be properly addressed, the earlier stuff packs are a kit-worth of content and if they can't be bothered to refresh them they should at least turn them into kit and give the people who bought them in the past a free kit coupon or something, I am so sick of EA announcing yet another dlc when the whole game is a dumpster fire, and all the popular simmers just dance to their song

It would have made a cute spin-off game with all the things you mentioned, but not only is the gameplay shallow the way it was implemented Batuu also plain doesn’t fit cleanly into the existing Sims occult/Sci-Fi. If they were gonna treat it like an amusement park/Cos play trip for Sims they should have gone all they way and made it an actual amusement park. Especially since Batuu as implemented matches the Disney Parks experience more that feeling like you are in Star Wars.

Horse Ranch - only pack I've ever paid full price for on release, don't regret because I'm a horse girlie and for me it was worth it for horses alone, but I agree that it's only a game pack's worth of content and is buggy as heck. Wouldn't recommend to anyone who isn't hyped about horses.
Cottage Living - agree with Satch, honestly. Don't regret buying it because it's probably my most used pack, but Satch is right, SDV is better for the farm experience.
Cats & Dogs - agree it's shallow, but don't regret buying because I can't imagine the Sims without animals.
Seasons/City Living/Get Together - got them so long ago that I can't remember the base game without them, they're just kind of integrated. Rarely play in the city world, I prefer a country aesthetic, but I do visit it often for the amenities.
Get To Work - do enjoy it when I play with it but invariably get bored quite quickly and I often end up sending my sims to work without following them.
Get Famous - was really fun at first but I find I don't play with it much anymore, and celebrities popping up on random lots annoy me. I had a 4-star celebrity come to the flea market the other day??
Island Living/Snowy Escape - love them. I know they're shallow but I love the worlds, especially the islands, and I play in them often.
Discover University - hate it so much that within an hour of playing I tried to return it and get a refund because I thought it was so bad, only to find that EA doesn't refund DLC. My sim spent all her time doing homework because there was no time for anything else, and then after ages doing nothing but staring at a homework animation, she STILL ended up with a bad grade. Have never used since.
Eco Lifestyle - has annoying elements (NAPs) but comes with some fun skills and I tend to use it a lot in challenges.
Vampires - shouldn't have bought this because I don't like vampires as an occult, but a friend convinced me and I regret it. My bad.
Parenthood - base game 2.0 for me, elevates family gameplay.
Outdoor Retreat - agree with Satch, it's really not good.
Jungle Adventure - agree with Satch, it's awesome.
Tiny Living - Satch hit the nail on the head
Vintage Glamour/Movie Hangout - I like the build stuff, especially for Vintage Glamour. I prefer VG for building fancy rich people homes to Get Famous.
Don't own the others! Told myself I was done with giving EA money... then they released Horse Ranch and I gave them my money. I'm exactly the kind of horse girlie Satch refers to in his videos and it always makes me laugh because he's exactly right.

I got all of my packs through a... 'different' method, but if I was someone who was actually looking to buy any of these packs (based purely on what I like to do in the sims, which is family/'realistic' gameplay), it would be:
    EXPANSION PACKS
    - Seasons
    - Growing Together
    - Cats & Dogs
    - Get Together
    - Get to Work
    - City Living
    GAME PACKS
    - Parenthood
    STUFF PACKS
    - Tiny Living
    - Laundry Day
    - Kids Room Stuff
    - Toddler Stuff
    KITS
    - Basement Treasures
    - Little Campers
    - Bathroom Clutter
    - Everyday Clutter
    - First Fits
And looking at all of that, it would be WELL over $100, and at that point, you should just buy the Sims 3 because not only is a lot of the above already in the base game, but it's also condensed into like... three DLCs instead of sixteen.

    • @XShaneX19
      @XShaneX19 Год назад +4

The "different" way is in my opinion the only recommended one.
Aside from purchasing all DLC netting you a 1000+$ game which is insane, I read articles of people who got banned from origin for playing with questionable mods of the adult variety.
I know the Sims modding scene has rabbit holes that lead to some real depraved garbage yet it was not elaborated if those bans were for borderline illegal or just "icky" modding.
Anyway I don't think they should have the power to pull the plug on your 1000$ purchase to begin with.

    • @smileforthecamera90

Lmao I too, used a “different” way and have most of the packs now. I totally agree with your recommendations of the packs to buy if you weren’t going the ahoyhoy way!
      Even then… I still need mods 😢

  • @distainedrogue536
    @distainedrogue536 Год назад +6

I've bought every pack for years now and yes it's worth it once you add a few mods to reduce certain pack's usages and how others interact with each other. Like the paparazzi for example. It's nice to have a mod that makes them not show up at all and or limits them to certain areas. I also use a mod that reduces the amount of times my kids will ask for advice, and occasionally one that allows them to go to school from home. Cuts on the game's lag and helps the packs work together. I build a lot but that's not why I buy them all. It's nice to have options and to play the game without restrictions. I think our friend here forgets that the Sims has no purpose. None of the packs have "progression" because the sims has no goal. The packs are only meant to be pieces to a puzzle in your world. You can add a variety of themes and now lifestyles to it. Tons of ways to play and tons of ways to build if you have it all. Don't let Debby Downers sway you from having fun.

Thank you Satch. Satch's videos are good to watch to save our money :)
On another note, I think we just only buy the concept that we want. Other people might like a concept, but maybe you just don't really like it, and vice versa.
For example, I have no interest in acting career, getting famous, so I'm not gonna get the pack. But i do feel interested in the luxury interior design, so luckily for new players we have modern luxury kit, which also combined with vanity mirror.
One of my favourite is snowy escape because i love japan and the snowboarding reminds me of my own experience in japan. Although i think the CAS are not what japanese would wear & would love it if the kimono were made more beautifully, i still feel happy that the concept is finally there in Sims 4.
Sulani, i don't know yet. But i really love the curtains. and the bb items. Still exploring because just got the kit.
Architecture kit that i love the most is Courtyard Oasis kit. I searched for moroccan architecture pictures on the internet, and holy, the kit resembles the real architecture so much. And it gives you a feel of exotic luxury which i love.

Yep! But it’s funny how some of the packs in the sims 4 don’t work, yet it work for the previous years like university in sims 2. (Not sure about sims 3, as I never had the pack for university in sims 3). In sims 2, you get 3 worlds “Sim State University,” “La Fiesta Tech,” and “Académie Le Tour,” while in the sims 4 you get 1 world yet 2 universities which are so shallow and the builds are honestly really annoying. Also when you first arrive at the dorms, there’s a cut scene in the beginning where the parent and their child, and they age up into young adults, and then the parent hugs them and they say good bye. Cut scenes is what bought life to the sims.😭
Now the sims are quite shallow and dull in comparison to the previous games. Even sims 3 was good, despite the weird sims (but can always be fix with the help of cc) and the lags (but not like the sims 4, is any better when it comes to lags haha).

It isn't just Simple Living that's a terribly implemented Cottage Living mechanic. Off-the-Grid also doesn't work properly with cooking. You'll have a wood burning stove on the lot and it'll say that "Cooking doesn't work off-the-grid." for no reason at all. I'm not even sure if generating a power surplus and storing it while trying to use an electric stove will stop this from happening. Also, just how are you supposed to use Off-the-Grid with Simple Living and also get your groceries without having to sit through a loading screen each time or live in the neighborhood that the food stall(s) is in? Sure, your phone works with a power surplus, but at least give us a while before our batteries die, and too bad for those who want a no-power experience or are roleplaying times before electricity. Don't get me started on Bust the Dust's lack of crosspack compatibility with Off-the-Grid neither (and I'm aware that Off-the-Grid was later made basegame... where iirc it works _better_ actually...). You need a functional broom mod if you're not using power and don't want to turn off Bust the Dust or do the possibly little-known Bust the Dust filthy household aspiration. lol

The issue with most packs is that there is a glaringly obvious gameplay feature that if they had included it, the pack would have been saved. Island living would have been saved by a hotel ownership gameplay like sims 3. Horse ranch would have been saved by an interactive competition function and maybe an immersive career or two. As you say, so many of them are just shallow. As an equestrian i was so looking forward to horse ranch but it has been very underwhelming. The fact you can’t build a jump course is woeful to me - you could in Sims 3. That you just go round and round in a tight little circle over the same jump is tragic. Don’t even get me started on the floating western stirrups stuck to the feet even when you are using the english saddle too. It is nice I can build beautiful dream horse properties and stables but honestly that is about it. But even then, I need tons of cc to make it pretty.

i think the problem with packs is that so much could be added to a single pack, but they drag it out over 10 packs so they can milk all your money. weather and calendars should be base game, but i think seasons couldve contained extra stuff and gameplay for each season, so spooky stuff but for every season, all combined in a game pack.
cats and dogs, cottage living, my first pet and horse ranch obviously shouldve all gone together in a pets expansion pack. there is no need other than money to drag it out over four packs.
parenthood, kids room stuff and toddlers stuff could all have come with growing together.
