- V Balsara (1922~2005), the legendary pianist and music composer in a delightful excerpt from an interview with Doordarshan many years back. His film music career started in 1942 and entailed assisting renowned Music Directors Ustad Mustaq Hussain, Master Ghulam Haider, Khemchand Prakash and Naushad.
I am luckiest person, because few years ago, suddenly I met him at Howrah Station, while he was going to Delhi for a program. I touched his feet and talked to him for at least 10 minutes. Really one of the finest musicians of our country. I am proud to be an Indian.

Sadly, like many, many performing artists of his time - we failed him too. Maybe because during the golden age of music and dance and arts in India - such rare talents came easily - they were grounded and they loved us audience - we took them for granted.
Our motherland, India has given birth a lot of gems. Late V.Balsara ji is one of them. We salute him.

What magical fingers, sensational music ! Often he did speak about the improvisation of harmonium, accordion and the invention of his own Unibox . He also spoke about the earlier ventures of their ' trio' : Sajjad Hussain, Talat Mehmood and V Balsara.
So glad you have Sajjadji’s name in the mix. An absolute legend like the other two

I was really impressed by Late V.Balsara's talent and remember meeting number of times in kolkata ,after he performed in our college reunion celebrations in 1964/65.
His contribution in our music will always be remembered with appreciation and respect etc.
Amazing display of harmonium prowess. Most of the riffs are actually played in the background while the singer is singing the song. It may not be an overstatement to say that SJ were the only MD. For most part, the competition consisted of song composers.

Really delightful ! Choosing a Talat Mahmood song is another gift of his as he was also involved in creating gems for the talented singer. Hats off to such a brilliant music composer.

Musical soirees in Calcutta, of legends like Hemanta, Manna etc were not complete without Balsara on accordion or univox. He was an institution. Having lived in Delhi in childhood and my youth, we didn't see Balsara much but when our relatives came from Calcutta, they talked of V. Balsara quite a lot. Not for nothing.
V Balsara was a Kohinoor in musical world !
