Hey "Uncle" Ben, my mom said I should ask you how to play Megadeth's Hangar 18 the right way because my stepdad is too busy in his Creed cover band to teach me. Also, I need to learn the whole song before I go to Nevada to storm Area 51, I'm gonna be clappin' dem alien cheeks for Dave Mustaine.
Amen regarding learning the notes, Uncle Ben! As you know, Troy Grady talks about the memory technique of "chunking", which is why we can remember things like phone numbers and our Social Security numbers. Knowing the notes you're playing is a huge benefit for saving space in the brain. Every note you're playing for slow passages, and target notes plus a "shape" for patterns, especially at high speed. For example, three-note-per-string patterns tend to fall into just a few categories when they don't require open strings or stunt stretches. Here's how I think of them, from all the way back in my self-taught days: 1-3-5: "major" 1-3-4: "minor" 1-2-4: "phrygian" 1-2-3: "chromatic" People who know a bit of theory will know exactly why I named them this way, since the intervals correspond exactly to the first three notes of the corresponding scales. I don't often need 1-2-5, but I'd think of it as "harmonic minor" if I did, because it captures the distinctive step-and-a-half interval between the minor sixth and major seventh that is characteristic of the harmonic minor scale. (It is not, however, the _first_ three notes of harmonic minor, so it does break my naming convention a little bit.) I'm an '80s kid too but I never saw this movie because that chirpy theme song from the trailer with the kid vocal (I guess) made me sick to my stomach. I went straight from John Williams's "Imperial March" theme to heavy metal. X-D
Awesome. Just shared the movie with my kid two nights ago. Of course, I was influenced by Stranger Things. Thanks for this! And freaking sweet shirt man!!
That video the other day brought back memories, I was thinking to myself "Watch,he's gonna have his face on Falcore."and no sooner I was thinking that, then boom, Bencore! (Sounds like a new type of heavy metal, or pain cream lol)
I thought myself To Play this solo few years ago . But you Play it a little different. Thanks for the Inspiration. Like always , i enjoy your Videos. Youre a Good entertainer.
You mention the synth portion being a stock preset in the Axe 3. Are the rest of your tones available on Axechange? Great video and thanks for posting.
